1 WSRC #69 ** February 22 is the Anniversary Dinner! **WSRC#69 Chips from the Buzzsaw The Weekly Newsletter of the Rotary Club of West Sacramento Our Program: Judge Brian Van Kamp: Meeting Summary Our Jury System A packed house greeted retired Judge Brian Van Camp, past president of the Rotary Club of Sacramento, who addressed our Club on the role of independent courts in a free society. Judge Van Camp currently serves as an arbitrator and mediator in business and commercial lawsuits, having stepped down from the Superior Court for Sacramento County five years ago, following 16 years as a trial court judge. Named as Judge of the Year by the Capitol City Trial Lawyers in 2003, he has been selected as one of the Top Arbitrators and Mediators by the Sacramento Magazine in each of the last three years. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he practiced business and corporate law for 23 years, most recently as a senior partner of the Downey Brand law firm, and served in Governor Ronald Reagan s cabinet. Just prior to his speaking engagement, the fit and active Judge Van Camp had been enjoying helicopter skiing in the back country near Elko, NV. We were lucky to catch him on his way back down the hill. A popular speaker, he s booked through June!
