1 August 7, 2014 Dear Executive, We invite you to join the US-China Governors Forum, hosted by California Governor Edmund G. Brown on November 11-12, 2014 in Rancho Mirage, California. The US-China Governors Forum aims to bring together the governors of the 34 Chinese provinces, the governors of the 50 US states, and each country s foremost business pioneers to cooperate on shared interests. On Governor Brown recommendation, this year s summit will be held at Sunnylands, the historic Annenberg estate. Sunnylands has hosted eight presidents in its time and has always been a destination for thoughtful dialogue, most recently, between President Obama and President Xi Jinping. The 2014 US-China Governors Forum comes at a critical time in our countries relationship. Our goal will be to bring together the world s two largest economies to discuss investment, subnational economic cooperation, and shared ecological challenges. We expect more than a dozen US and Chinese governors to attend, plus the highest executives representing our countries best known firms. Please find a working agenda attached. 2 U.S.-China Governors Forum Delegate Itinerary The U.S.-China Governors Forum will build on the commitment by U.S. President Obama and Chinese President Xi to advance sub-national cooperation between the world s two largest economies. Held at Sunnylands the historic desert estate and site of the first meeting between Presidents Obama and Xi earlier this year the Forum will focus on the topics of trade and investment and subnational economic cooperation, and will be accompanied by a series of dialogues and business matchmaking sessions between U.S. and Chinese government officials and business leaders. The U.S.-China Governors Forum was established by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Washington in January Its purpose is to build on existing cooperation between the U.S. and China by encouraging state and provincial leaders to formalize relationships, increase bilateral trade and investment, promote cultural exchange, and share best practices. The Forum will also include a dialogue on the ecological challenges facing the world s economies. 1
