2 President s Message Dear Rotarians Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, one of our club s signature programs, will be on Tuesday, February 11, I urge all Rotarians to participate in this special event during which we will recognize an outstanding law enforcement officer from the city police, county sheriff s office, and a federal agency. What a joy for our club to be a part of honoring the accomplishments and dedication of these public servants! Merl Code, an icon in Greenville, will be speaking, and, if you have not heard him, you must! His tremendous passion for all things Greenville takes your breath away! In addition to attending club meetings, I hope you are engaged in the daily work of Rotary, either reading to children, tutoring, taking down displays at holiday lights, serving on a committee, recruiting a new member for our club, celebrating Rotary s work throughout the world, and much more. Rotary Read to Me needs readers, and the Greenville Literacy Association needs tutors. We need volunteers for Rotary Has Heart. If you are not engaged in the work of Rotary, let me help you make a connection. Rotarians worldwide are celebrating the declaration that India is now polio free, an extraordinary health miracle, especially as it was believed that India would be the last country in the world to eradicate polio. As Rotarians, we cannot assume that we are no longer needed in the fight to eradicate polio. In this bulletin, you will find an announcement of an opportunity to participate in a National Immunization Day Polio Trip to India, a life changing experience. The polio virus can always come back, and until the rest of the world is polio-free, we have to keep working. One way you can help is to support the Golf Tournament chaired by Jeff Fuller on April 14 th as funds raised will go toward Polio Plus and Alzheimer s! Judith S. Prince, President The Greenville Rotarian Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Greenville Organized January 7, 1916 Volume 59, No. 14 February 06, 2014 RI President District Governor President President-Elect Secretary Treasurer Bulletin Editor Ron Burton Lorraine Angelino Judith Prince Russell Stall Elizabeth Lyons Jill Kintigh Tim Nanney Rotary Club of Greenville 728 N.
