1 WSRC #69! Our Fundraiser is July 27! WSRC#69 Chips from the Buzzsaw Our Program: Cindy Tuttle, West Sacramento Parks & Rec Director Rotarians were treated to a lively presentation from Cindy Tuttle, Director of Parks & Community Services for the City of West Sacramento. The Club received an overview of the 5 divisions of the City s Parks department and of the surprising amount of behind the scenes planning and administration necessary to keep pace with our growing city, including maintenance of city trees, parks, and more! A former Mayor of West Sacramento and a long-term resident with deep roots in the community, Cindy entertained the Club with her energetic description of several new park facilities and special events on the horizon, including a ropes course, conceived as an interim use for un-developed park space, and more riverfront recreational open space. With an update of the Parks Master Plan underway and a new Trail Initiative by the City, there are lots of opportunities for Rotary to employ a little sweat equity and partner with the City. It s up to us to pick one and dive in! (At Right: Cindy Tuttle gives the secret Vulcan hand signal to let Trekkies know it s cool to be in Rotary). 2 Steve Oren carefully selects the 4 of Clubs in the weekly raffle. The pot, which continued from President Bill s term, is currently up to $1,117. This is usually the point where we start getting ambitious visitors, hoping to steal our raffle. Another great reason to attend the meeting - must be present to win! Proposed New Member! Dustin Dumars, CPA, has put in an application to join our Club. Dustin is sponsored by Member Verna Sulpizio. With two visits to the Club luncheon already under his belt (and another expected this week), Dustin s application has been forwarded to the Executive Committee. 4 YOUR LINKS TO ROTARY For a long time, our Club has maintained an active presence in our home towns. We have regularly held events, participated in community projects, and worked together for the chance to make a lasting and positive contribution to the neighborhoods we live in and the people we call our neighbors. Much has changed since our Club was founded more than 69 years ago, but our Members commitment to the Club and to our communities has not changed. New challenges and new opportunities are on our horizon, and each of these can best be met by returning the Club to a level of activity and effort that will make our founders proud. We owe it to those who came before us, and those who wait to take our places, to make our own best efforts and strive for ever more excellence. Our Members are committed, our Members are active, and our Members are generous. Many already give more than their share. We owe it to those Members to each try a little harder, work a little smarter, and dig a little deeper in pursuit of the Objects of Rotary. We can use our Fundraiser as a chance to display our Rotary values to the community, a chance to recruit more people like us, and a chance to have fun raising money. Please come! FIRST: The Objects of Rotary The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; - Jim Cahill Club-of-West-Sacramento/ Rotary District portal/home.aspx?did=5180 This space left intentionally vacant. Imagine, if you were Newsletter Editor, how YOU might fill this space! SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: FOURTH: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
