VP University s BIG Book of VP Command Lessons 75 Lesson 5 Pre-defined Shape with Lean-to with Framed Openings and common wall as an Opening Objectives: Using the VPC Building Editor input a pre-defined shape consisting of a main building with a partial span lean-to at an endwall. Explore and understand the differences between Openings and Framed Openings. Building Specifics: You are still considering shapes and frames. This particular shape will consist of multiple roof and wall planes and multiple sections. Input dimensions as desired for the Predefined Shape Lean To Left EW Mid. This shape will have a common wall where the high-side of the lean-to meets the higher endwall of the main building creating what VPC calls an Opening. 1. Shape(s): Remember that is all begins with a shape. Right-click in the Graphics Pane, Insert a New Shape, and choose the Lean To Left EW Mid predefined shape and input any geometry you desire. Below is the geometry I used for my shape. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
VP University s BIG Book of VP Command Lessons Frames: You will locate frames perpendicular to Wall 5 (low sidewall) of the Lean-to and Wall 4 of the larger main shape. We call these walls the along wall for frames. Remember, your orientation is as you are standing outside your building and facing the wall and working lef-tto-right. For leanto frames, the along wall will contain the low-side column. For all frames, the along wall will contain Exterior Column 1 and be the Left side of the frame. Interior and Endpost locations are dimensioned from the along wall, too. Below are the frame locations based on my Geometry. Use your desired locations and frame typed best suited for your shape. Maintain outset girt condition for economy. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
VP University s BIG Book of VP Command Lessons 77 For my geometry I had to adjust the endpost spacing on my Post and Beam frame at the larger builder from 24-0 space to 23-0 to support the lean-tos from the low building. Openings (NOT Framed Openings): When VP Command finds a common wall between touching shapes (the lean-to and larger building in this example), it creates an Opening and removes all material at both wall planes. Where there is a ridge the Opening will be split, but the entire common section is open. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
78 If you wish to return sheeting and girts to close off this common wall, go to the Opening(s) at the desired wall and uncheck the required items. Note that you DO NOT do this for BOTH WALL PLANE OPENINGS, otherwise you will have two walls face to face. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
79 Framed Openings (NOT Openings): A Framed Opening consists of Jambs, Headers, Sills, and trim as required for that opening. A Framed Opening must first be in the Framed Openings Schedule before you can locate it on your building. We will use 12-0 wide x 14-0 high framed openings for this explanation. Create your sizes as desired. 3. Right-click in the Graphics Pane, select Framed Openings (FO), Insert a Frames Opening. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
80 4. At the FO Data screen, input your Name, Width, and Height. Framed Openings are dimensioned to the inside face of steel (including the Sill if input. Click OK when complete. Your FO will now be in the FO Schedule and is ready to be location on your shape. 5. Right-click on the Wall plane where the FOs will be located, click on Framed Openings. This is Wall 4 in my example (front wall of larger shape). March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
81 Layout of Framed Opening Locations screen. You have the Measured From section from which the given dimension will start and you have the Measured To section which is the part of the FO that the given dimension is taken to. 6. For the first FO we will locate it from the Left Edge of the wall to Centerline of the FO (half of the 25-foot end bay). Insert. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
82 7. For the second FO will be located from the Centerline of the one we just located. The key to doing this is to FIRST SELECT the FO from the list from which you are Measuring From, click on Centerline of FO, Measure To Centerline of FO, given your spaces at dimension (25), click Insert. OK when all FOs are in your list. 8. Save your VPC File, complete the Run All, and verify colors and any unpriced items on your Pricing Report. March 16, of 239 VPC Level 1
83 myaccount.vp.com The site is set up for VP Builders to access information on their project orders. Documents are created and posted to Order Entry (OE) Folders. Documents will be ed and/or Faxed to the VP Customer via myaccount.vp.com Builder can set preferences Receive via or fax or both or none Builder can add secondary accounts so documents are forwarded to correct contact per job notification includes document Builder Tools Menu on myaccount.vp.com Freight Rate Calculator 1. go to myaccount.vp.com with your internet browser and login using your address and password. This is the same as the ones you use for VP Command. 2. Click on Builder Tools at the menu to drop down additional items. Freight Rate Calculator will access the Excel Spreadsheet to calculate your required freight. Complete the required items and print your report. It is recommended that you DO NOT save this file, but access it as needed from myaccount.vp.com. The formulas may change and myaccount will always have the most accurate spreadsheet.
