4 FIRE PROTECTION DIN 4102 PART 12 INTRODUCTION The safety of people in case of fire can only be guaranteed if all the necessary safety requirements (such as fire detectors, emergency lighting, passenger and firemen lifts, smoke and heat discharge installations) remain operational. This is why Vergokan decided to launch a new economical system into the market, which complies with all the stringent requirements of this standard. RANGE OF APPLICATION: DIN Standard 4102 part 12 contains the concepts and meas-ures in order to obtain preservation of functionality. The range of application of this standard, however, is limited to 1KV. The preservation of functionality is classified into two groups: E30 and E90.The duration that an installation has to remain operational is described in part 1 of DIN VDE 0108.Thus for example, installations used for signalisation and evacuation of the buildings will have to remain functional for at least 30 minutes (E30). E90 fire-fighting installations (at least 90min) include compressors, smoke hatches, fire-fighting lifts, ). TEST: The preservation of functionality of the cables must not be negatively influenced by the installation during the test.only horizontal set-ups are tested; the test results for horizontal set-ups are also valid for set-ups at an angle, such as vertical set-ups.this is only possible if the installation is propped up in the transition between vertical and horizontal stretches, in order to prevent the installation from buckling through or sliding off on the sides. We have included the wire cable trays in our most recent tests. We hereby used the widest range of Dätwyler cables with a support distance of 1500 mm and a maximum load of 20 kg/m. IMPORTANT: For installation, keep in mind that there are two types of installations : Standard supporting construction : Transferability of the cables is obtained by means of this structure. This means that if a cable manufacturer has car-ried out a test on a standard supporting structure (supporting structure according to the standard). The properties of these cables can then be transferred to other structures. In part 12 of DIN 4102 it is described as follows: Mutual spacing between various stretches under each other, higher than or equal to 250 mm Span distance smaller than or equal to 1200 mm Min. thickness cable tray equal to 1.5 mm Max. load for cable-trays 10 kg/m Max. load for cable ladders 20 kg/m Bracket bolted or welded onto the ceiling support Cable trays and cable ladders - Max. width of the cable tray 300 mm (percentage of perforations 15±5%) - Max. width of the cable ladder equal to 400 mm Rung distance of the ladders max. 150 mm. Cable tray height is 60 mm Extremity of the bracket held up by threaded rod Jointing plates positioned midspan (worst case). Non-standard supporting construction : This is a construction that does not comply with one of the above conditions. As a result, transferability is not possible in this case. -4

5 flo FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS : Can an anchoring bolt be used instead of a ceiling bracket? Answer: yes, if it has been tested. (Fire approved) Which clamps have to be used to fasten the cables? Answer: These can be transferred, but they do need to have been tested (=Fire-resistance approved) How many stretches can be installed? Answer: For maximum one-sided loads 3 stretches. For double-sided loads 6 stretches. Which vertical distance between stretches has to be taken in account? Answer: the distance of stretches under the roof and between each other should be >= 250mm. Can cables of the Kabelwerk Eupen company be laid on the KBS 60*400*1.5 structure? Answer: Not on the KBS 60*400*1.5 as a standard supporting structure can have a maximum width of up to 300mm. Can other non-bs cables be laid on an installation which is BS equipped? Answ: Yes, if the BS cables and the non-bs cables are on different trays, next to each other. Never use the different cables beneath each other, while the non-bs cables can have a negative influence on the BS cables in case of fire. Is it all right to install cable trays on constructions tested with cable ladders? Answer: Yes Is it all right to install ladders on a structure tested with cable trays? Answer: Yes, but no more than a 10kg/m load will be allowed on this structure. Theoretically this is an expensive solution. Is it all right to use powder coated cable trays of ladders for BS structures? Answer: No, as they have a negative effect on the cables in case of fire. Is it all right to use HD cable trays of ladders for BS structures? Answer: Yes Is it all right to use inox cable trays of ladders for BS structures? Answer: Yes Crosspieces, bends and T-joints; can these be used for BS structures? Answer: Yes Can standard AB be used for vertical stretches? Answer: No, as these always need to be fixed against the wall (without space). The WVPIPN piece has to be used for this. Can a lid be fitted onto a BS structure? Answer: No, as this has not been tested. How can a vertical structure be positioned? Answer: Vertical fixation is only possible against a wall. How can the cable clamps be attached to the cable tray for vertical assembly? Answer: Cable trays can never be mounted vertically, precisely for this reason. Which sliding nuts have to be used for fixation onto the ceiling support? Answer: sliding nuts cannot be used on a standard structure, only bolts and nuts can.
