Appndix 25 Th Hadstock Faturs a four baring spindl: At th front ar two dp groov ball barings custom fittd with ground spacrs, and lockd to th shaft with a lock nut in th housing. This minimizs radial and axial play of th spindl. Th rar barings float axially to allow for hat xpansion. Barings ar no maintnanc grasd for lif. Th spindl is -5/8" at maximum diamtr and drilld thru 3/8" with numbr 2 mors tapr at th inboard nd. It is mad from high strngth alloy stl, hardnd and ground to prcision tolranc of ± inchs. A spcial slf supporting wrnch is usd to rmov accssoris from th spindl such as facplats and chucks. 2 position indxing is standard. Th Spindl Th spindl is " - 8 TPI with a groov machind for a lock scrw. Th banjo handl will clamp ithr to th lft or right. Gnrally th handl is adjustd so that whn it is clampd, th handl is clar of th bd. This allows th banjo to b clampd in all positions ovr th bd. Th clamp handl position can b adjustd via th Nylock Nut, undrnath th banjo. How do I adjust th Toolrst clamp lvr? Th toolrst clamp lvr can b adjustd to clamp in any position. To chang th position of this lvr, unscrw th four scrws that hold th clamp nut in plac, rotat it to th dsird position and r-fastn th nut with th scrws. Not that thr ar ight hols in th clamp nut, allowing adjustmnts of /8 rotational incrmnts. Th handl clamp position is an individual prfrnc, but th O clock position is a good plac to start. - 8 to M33 * 3.5 Part No / - 6 to M33 * 3.5 Part No CURVED TOOLRESTS Similar to th toolrsts for th larg laths, w hav two configurations of curvd toolrst spcifically for th 22 Th Gnral Purpos toolrst (post is on th nd), which is for th insid of bowls and can also b usd for th outsid of bowls (Part #330). Th othr is an xtrior toolrst (post is in th middl) which is for th outsid of bowls only. (Part #3302) Gnral Purpos Toolrst Part #330 Extrior Curvd Toolrst Part #3302 This assmbly consists of: a rotating squar shaft, a short sliding cam and a support block for th sliding cam. Th squar shaft rotats th sliding cam. Th cam is supportd on a cam support block which in turn is supportd on a ldg machind in th tool rst bas. Th block movs with th sliding cam and supports th shaft. Dflction of th cam shaft is liminatd and thr is no longr a clamping diffrnc Rotating Squar Shaft Cam Support Block What is a Sliding Cam Assmbly Sliding Cam anywhr on th lath bd. 6 6 Barings Appndix 23 Thr ar four spindl barings in th hadstock. Ths barings ar sald and lubricatd from th factory and should nvr nd adjustmnt or lubrication. Th barings and th spindl in your lath ar dsignd to tak normal woodturning forcs for a long tim. Th bst way to nsur long baring lif is to nvr hammr against th spindl. Du to th siz and th prload on th barings th lath may run quit warm whn it is nw. As th barings brak in thy will run coolr but will still gt warm. Each lath is run in at th factory and chckd for xcss tmpraturs, but it is a good ida to kp th spd blow 2000 RPMs for th first 30 hours of opration. This allows xcss gras in th barings to scap and for th sals to brak in. Whn rplacing th barings it is bst to rplac th front barings with a matchd st from ONEWAY Manufacturing. Th rar barings can b rplacd by any quivalnt baring. Rplacing th Barings To rplac th barings you must rmov th spindl. Th first stp is to tak th blt off th motor pully. Rmov th nut on th back sid of th spindl and slid off th pully. Rmov th six bolts in th spindl nos cap. Grab th nos cap and th ntir spindl assmbly should slid out. If it is tight, tak two of th bolts you just rmovd and put thm into th two tappd hols in th nos cap. Tightn thm altrnatly and this will jack out th spindl. If you do not hav a propr st of baring tools, it is a good ida to snd th spindl back to ONEWAY to prvnt damag to th spindl and to th nw barings. Part # M0083 Motor Mount Assmbly

This lock dos not stop th quill from backing off, that is don by th fd scrw mchanism. Th lock rmovs any play btwn th quill and th bor, to hlp rduc vibration whn working btwn cntrs. Th supr rigid tailstock clamp is dsignd so that no flxing will occur undr clamp prssur. This will nsur that th clamp will hold firmly whil rquiring no adjustmnt for th lif of th lath, and will rtain th as of movmnt of th tailstock along th bd. Th Mors Tapr in th tailstock is gratly affctd by how clan th tapr is. Evn a small amount of dust, or oil, will significantly rduc th driv forc that can b xrtd by th tailstock bfor accssoris will spin in th tapr. Always wip any accssory and th tapr with a clan rag bfor putting th accssory into th tailstock. Installation and Rmoval of Accssoris in th Tailstock To install an accssory into th tailstock, wind th barrl out. Put th accssory in th barrl and snap it into th tapr. Most accssoris ar slf-jcting. Most stps involv rmoving hardwar, attaching a part, thn using th sam hardwar to fastn th part. Part # M029 Spindl Assmbly Stp : Rmov th lath from th shipping shlf. Us an mm wrnch to loosn th two nuts attaching th lath to th shipping shlf. If th carriag bolts don't fall through, tap thm through. Ths bolts ar not rquird latr. Cut th cabl tis attaching th lctrical box to th lath bd and rmov th lath from insid th bnch. Stp 2: Attach th Pndant Brackts. Insid th bnch thr ar two pndant brackts. Attach ths to th top of th bnch with th hardwar supplid. Th cntr rib must fac th front. Stp 3: Position th pndant. Your pndant will com in on of two ways: a) Th gry control box is physically attachd to th pndant arm. If th control box is attachd to th pndant arm, thn th assmbly can b pushd through th hol in th back of th bnch as a singl unit. Aftr th pndant is through th hol, follow it with th black covr plat. Us th hardwar supplid to attach th black covr plat to th bnch. b) Th gry control box is not attachd to th pndant arm. If th control box is not attachd to th pndant arm, thn th gry control box nds to b pushd through th hol on its own, followd by th pndant arm, followd by th black covr plat. Attach th covr plat to th bnch using th hardwar supplid. Onc th control box and pndant arm ar through th hol, attach th control box to th pndant arm using th hardwar supplid. Mount th pndant onto on of th brackts attachd to th bnch in stp 2. Stp : Attach th Shlf Rmov th shlf that th lath was attachd to. Flip th shlf ovr, making sur th groov in th shlf is at th back lft hand cornr. Push th motor wir into this groov. Lift th shlf so th lft hand sid is positiond onto th brackt alrady attachd to th bnch. Lift th right hand sid of th shlf so it is highr than th hols drilld in th bnch for th shlf brackt. Attach th shlf brackt to th right hand sid of th bnch and lowr th shlf onto th support. Stp 5: Attach th Elctrical Box Rmov on nut from ach of four bolts on th lft hand sid of th bnch. Hang th lctrical box on ths bolts and attach it using th four nuts that wr just rmovd. Stp 6: Rmov th Bnch from th Woodn Pallt It is a good ida to rmov th bnch from th woodn skid, whil th lath assmbly is not attachd. Position th st scrw in th hol that is not drilld thru. Th lath dos not hav to b prfctly lvl; ths lvling pads ar for qualizing th prssur of th lath and bnch assmbly qually ovr ach foot. W rcommnd that th lath bnch b boltd to th floor. To do this, position th thru hol in th foot of th bnch dirctly ovr th thru hol in th lvling pad. A bolt can thn b put through ths two hols and boltd into th floor. If you do not plan to bolt th lath to th floor, th position of th lvling pad rlativ to th position of th bnch foot dos not mattr. Stp 8: Mount th Lath to th Bnch. a) Rmov th blt covr from th lath using th covr rlas and st asid. b) Rmov bolts, nuts and washrs from th bnch - b carful not to los th nuts and washrs from undrnath th bnch top (thr slottd hols will hav washrs and nuts, on round hol will hav a nut only). Position th lath so th hols in th bottom of th lath assmbly lin up with ths hols. Starting with th hol in th lft front, us on bolt and on nut to fastn th lath to th bnch (this stp is asist with th motor in th down position. Continu clockwis bolting th lath onto th bnch. Stp 9: Attach th Blt Covr Rmov th thr scrws (and nuts) with a #2 Robrtson Scrwdrivr or slottd quivalnt (b carful not to los th nuts from undrnath). Put th blt covr on and lock it into position with th locking mchanism. Fastn th blt covr to th bnch using th scrws and nuts which wr just rmovd. Stp 0: Install th Blt Rfr to th sction "Changing th Blt" to install th Blt. You can now plug th Lath into th powr sourc. Turn th lath on at th lctrical box, chck for clarancs and run th machin. 3 Lubrication 2 M0220 ONEWAY Laths, lik any mchanical dvic, nds lubrication to function at its optimum. 10 0 Common Problms & How to Avoid Thm. Th most common caus of th unit shutting itslf off is stopping larg pics too quickly which causs xcss voltag and th driv tripping out (slf-protction). If you prss th STOP button and th lath dos not brak, but coasts to a stop, this is what has happnd. Rfr to th sction If Your Driv Dos Trip Out blow, to rst your driv. Th driv can also trip itslf out if th spd is changd whil turning a pic. Kp in mind that as a pic gts mor in balanc and you incras th spd, vn though you hav rducd th wight, th incrasd spd maks stopping mor difficult. This is why th lath might stop normally whn you first start a pic but might trip out latr whn you incras th spd. You can also rduc braking problms by slcting th propr pully. It is much asir for th driv to stop th lath if th lath is on th largst hadstock pully (slowst spd) than if th lath is on th smallst (fastst spd) hadstock pully. Long acclration is slctd by putting th toggl switch on top of th pndant control box into th forward position. 2. Th driv unit also monitors th amount of currnt and th lngth of tim that currnt has bn flowing. If th motor has bn drawing xcss currnt for too long, th driv will shut down to protct th motor. This can happn if th lath has bn running slowly for a long tim. To prvnt this problm, us th largst hadstock pully (slowst spd) suitabl for th job to kp th motor spd high. For xampl, if you hav a vry larg catch, th driv may shut down. If Your Driv Dos Trip Out rv chang dat Th Driv unit that controls th motor is a vry sophisticatd driv that constantly monitors th motor, incoming powr, and itslf. If th unit dtcts a condition that will caus damag to any part of th driv systm, it will shut itslf down and th motor will coast to a stop. If this happns, th lath will not rspond to any input from th pndant control. To rst th Driv, turn th powr off. Th tailstock quill is a prcision fit and to maitain factory pformanc it should b kpt lightly oild at all tims. Wind th quill all th way out, put a fw drops of oil on th barrl and wind it in. Putting oil on th clamping mchanism will hlp nsur long lif and good clamping forc. To oil th clamp mchanism put a fw drops on th shaft through th hol in th back of th tailstock. Th banjo uss a patnt pnding mchanism that liminats flx in th shaft and nsurs tight clamping ovr th ntir rang of th banjo. Lubricating th mchanism will nsur that th clamping forc is usd to clamp th banjo not to ovrcom friction in th mchanism. Any anti-siz lubricant will work but w find that Fl-Pro anti- siz lubricant C5-A works wll. You should only hav to lubricat th mchanism whn it is not clamping wll. Scrw th accssory scurly onto th spindl and snug up th two st scrws using an M alln ky. Indxing Th indxing pin is locatd on th front sid of th hadstock. To us th spindl indxing, turn th knurld knob countr-clockwis to loosn th mchanism. Slid th pin forward whil rotating th spindl by hand. Th pin will ngag in on of 2 hols, whn it dos, lock th pin in plac by snugging up th brass knob. If th lath gts turnd on whil th indxing pin is ngagd, th lath will not b damagd (unlss thr is blt slippag).
