1 GRANT PARK GARDEN CLUB PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RECEPTION THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6 TH, 6PM Community Center Everyone is welcome to come and view the photos with no obstructions. OKTOBERFEST 2016 FRIDAY OCTOBER 7 TH Legion Park GARAGE SALES Throughout the village. Maps available at the village hall. SCARECROWS AND HOUSE DECORATIONS on display COLORING CONTEST FOR GRADES K-5 All entries are to be turned in on Friday Morning. All can be viewed at the Community Center after 4PM KIDS UMBRELLA KICKOFF PARADE The parade steps off from the Hamann Center at 3:30. There will be music and hoopla followed by a fancy umbrella parade. Dr. Palan and Dave Dickson will be leading as Grand Marshalls, carrying their own umbrellas. Parents, relatives, and everyone else is invited to join in (with umbrellas of course) as we parade through town to the Legion Park. THIS year, we are READY rain or shine! SELFIE SCAVENGER HUNT BEGINS Pick up the list at the end of the Children s Umbrella Parade at the Community Center around 4:00PM. Read the list, plan your strategy, grab your phone and start snapping. The contest ends at 1:00 on Sunday. A FABULOUS FRIDAY FISH FRY A tasty dinner awaits you at the Community Center from 4:00-7:00 Also pie, cupcakes and other goodies will be available. Vote for the People s Choice Best Photograph. COMMUNITY BINGO At the Legion Park 4:00 until 7:30 If you are old enough to know your letters and numbers, you are old enough to play. ONLY $1.00 a Card Donation for HOURS of fun for the whole family FOOD VENDORS Because not everyone likes fish, you can check out these tasty treats. All manner of yummy thigs are available for purchase Starting at 4:00 just in time for the arrival of the Umbrella Parade! ENTERTAINMENT Headlining Friday night s country music party is Nashville s own Anthony Orio and the Goodfellers! 9:00 PM is the start, so be there and be ready for them to bring the party to town!
2 OKTOBERFEST 2016 SATURDAY OCTOBER 9 TH Legion Park 5K RACE and FUN WALK Beginning at 8AM challenge your friends family and yourself. Take a walk with the whole town! SELFIE SCAVENGER HUNT continues GARAGE SALES continue. Get a map in the Community Center. SCARECROWS are on display CRAFTERS AND VENDORS Come to see their amazing products. You can get a jump on Christmas from 9:00-4:00 at the community center. FARMERS MARKET LITE A few vendors from the Summers Farmers Market will be joining us again. Enjoy!!! FACE PAINTING Everyone needs a little face paint! AGRICULTURAL EVENT 4H Club is bringing the country to town! Come to meet their four footed friends. FOOD VENDORS DECORATED HOUSES Families have decorated early just for you! FAMILY PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST Join us for an opportunity to enjoy an old time activity with your family from 12:00 2:00 in the tent. GAMES FOR KIDS There will be simple games for our younger citizens from 11 until 4. Bozo Buckets, must be accompanied by adult There will be a $3 charge and EVERY child gets a prize. OLD CAR GRAFITTI From noon till 3PM grab a paint brush and add some car art in the park. VIDEO TRAILER For $10 you can enjoy an hour of gaming. From 3:30-7:30 don t miss it. CAMPFIRE Enjoy a quiet moment around a fire with friends. Sit on a straw bale, and smell the scents of Fall. HAY RIDE Another old time activity from 4PM till 7:30PM that will be travelling through town in an open wagon full of hay. $2 TASTE OF GRANT PARK Come to get the best food from Grant Park all in one place. 5:00-8:00 at the Community Center. You can also vote for the Best Pumpkin Decorating ENTERTAINMENT Poison d Crue will play starting at 9:30 and there will be places to sit and enjoy or dance the night away! PARADE 8:00PM FIREWORKS 9:00PM TEEN DANCE From 9PM till Midnight in the Community Center there will be DJ Sparky playing some great music so you can dance, listen (or chair dance.) There will be places to sit and enjoy food and drink if you choose. A photo booth will be available for you to use your phone to take snaps to remember the evening. We ll have some games of skill for you to play, so be sure to come and check it out. Enjoy the music, enjoy your friends, and enjoy the Good Ol Days at Oktoberfest.

4 Kickoff Event for Oktoberfest 2016 The Good Ol Days Children s Umbrella Parade Friday, October 7 at 3:30 PM The parade starts at the Grade School Parking Lot. The children will parade down Grant Park streets. All adults are encouraged to join them (with umbrellas, of course) as they pass by! We ll all end up at the Legion Park under colorful cover of umbrellas! We go, rain or shine!
5 Old Car Graffiti We have an old car. We have paint. We have paint brushes. What could happen? Join us on Saturday, October 8 from Noon until 3PM. You ll have 10 minutes to add some art to the car! This lite version of our regular Farmers Market during the summer sees the return of our incredible edibles. Riverfront Berry Farm M & M Honey Good Morning Bakery
6 Saturday Night October 8 th 9PM until Midnight at the Community Center Teens ONLY DJ Sparky will provide the sounds. There will be games of skill, photo opportunities, and PIZZA!
7 SUNDAY, October 9 th Chili Taste starts at noon Wine and Beer Tasting from 1PM till 5PM
8 Rolling Video Games A game truck trailer with FOUR widescreen high-def TVs cover the walls in front of custom stadium seats with built-in vibration motors synched to the on-screen action with speakers in front and back. Everything is linked, so 16 players can play the same game or against each other! Play as a team enjoy different games, because there are plenty to choose from all the newest games from Wii, Playstation and Xbox with a "Game Coach" to help anyone who needs it. Since there are no single-player games, it's the ultimate party for a group to have fun together Oktoberfest! The professionally trained Game Coach accompanies every event with the Rolling Video Games Mobile Video Game Theater Truck. His job is to instruct tutor and inspire the guests to have the most fun possible with the state of the art equipment. Younger guests may receive lessons with the game movements and wireless controllers. Teen guests might be shown tricks of the trade and game strategy. 10 2016 Oktoberfest People s Choice Pumpkin Decorating Contest Saturday afternoon, October 8 th Noon until 2:00PM In the tent at Legion Park Bring the family and have fun doing an activity straight out of the past! There will be a selection of pumpkins available for purchase. Carving Kits will be provided for your use. We will also have a strange and wonderful stuff to add to your pumpkin s unique look. We will also provide you with adequate trash cans to dispose of pumpkin guts. Eewww! You will need to: Use the Carving Kits provided FOR USE BY ADULTS. Make a card that names your pumpkin and identifies you. Take your creation to the Community Center for display and judging during dinner. Check back at 8:00 to pick up your pumpkin. May the people s choice be with you!
11 Oktoberfest 2016 Photo Scavenger Hunt Beginning Friday afternoon, October 7 t 4:00 PM At Legion Park Bring the family and have fun doing an activity straight out of the past HOUR! Ending Sunday by 1:00 October 9 th Rules 1. $2.00 entry fee for a split-the-pot prize. The more who play, the bigger the prize. 2. Please use your phone to capture pictures/videos. 3. You must be in each photo that you take because this is a SELFIE contest. 4. You do not need to capture everything on the list, because there is a LOT on the list! 5. Photo/videos MUST be uploaded to a Facebook Page before 1:00 on Sunday, October 9 th 6. Winners announced at 4:00PM in the Tent on Sunday, October 9 th unless there are a lot of participants. The more who play, the longer it will take to judge. Either way, we will post the winners on the Octoberfest site as soon we know who won. Pick up the list at the end of the Children s Umbrella Parade at the Community Center around 4:00PM. Here is a hint about the photos you will be asked to take during the scavenger hunt. (Well, actually it s not a hint. It s the first photo you ll need to take to play.) 1. Walking in the Umbrella Parade This selfie would not count because while it shows me walking with an umbrella, it does not show the Umbrella Parade. Get the idea? Read carefully, be creative, have fun!
12 2016 Oktoberfest After the Umbrella Parade on October 7 th In the Community Center at the Legion Park 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM Grant Park Oktoberfest presents BINGO for the fun and entertainment of people at the fest this year. This is a fundraising event for the Parks in the Village and as such, we request a donation to join in the fun. Winners of the games may receive prizes or coupons to further their enjoyment of the Oktoberfest.
13 2016 Oktoberfest Elementary School Kids Coloring Contest Pick up a coloring page from your teacher at school or on the Oktoberfest Website. You may use crayon, marker, chalk, craypas, or paint. You may also use cotton, glitter, or whatever will hold on to the paper when it is pinned to the wall. Don t use bricks. They won t work very well. Put your name on the back. Please do not let anyone else help you. The contest is for YOU not THEM. Just tell them Wait. The only help you can offer is advice. Then smile, say I love you and keep smiling until they go away. BE SURE TO TURN IT IN BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5 TH. Your art will be on display on the windows at the Community Shelter on Friday. You can take everyone to see it after the Umbrella Parade!
14 Oktoberfest 2016 Sunday October 9 th Car & Pumpkin Racing Toy Car Racing begins at 12:00 Toy cars must be gravity-powered only. No other form of propulsion is permitted. Cars may not be weighted. Pumpkin Racing begins at 12:30 1. Each race car must be created from a pumpkin. 2. The lanes of the race ramp will be 8 ½ wide, so small pumpkins are advised. 3. Wheels can be attached as you choose, by mounting directly to the pumpkin or by securing it to a wheeled platform. 4. The cars must be gravity-powered only. No other form of propulsion is permitted. Cars may not be weighted. 5. Any car in violation of the spirit of the contest may be disqualified. Decoration The car may be decorated with any variety of craft materials. The use of other vegetables as decoration is encouraged (Examples: olives or radishes for headlights, a driver made from a carrot, etc.). Rules for both: 1. The track is a 16 long sloped ramp with two 8 ½ lanes. 2. Entrants will draw numbers before the first race to determine match-ups for each heat. 3. Depending on the number of entrants, some low numbers may go directly to the second round of heats. Late entrants will be assigned the next available number. 4. Each heat will be 2 cars, best of three races. The winner of each heat proceeds to the next round. Races continue until a single winner is determined. The Racing Ramp will be located on Meadow Street next to the Community Center during the Car Show. For those of you who enjoyed the Zucchini 500 Race at the Farmers Market, be sure to come out and cheer the participants on or try your hand at racing!
