Welcome to new Design Team Member, Sonya! We are pleased to welcome Sonya Appel to the Custom Quilling family. Her creative designs are sure to be an inspiration to all paper artists. I have been crafting since I was a little girl and have never stopped. Paper, paint, glue, shiny stuff, beads and any other thing that could be made into an arts and craft project would fascinate me with the possibilities it could become. I have three grown girls, 3 grandchildren, and have been married for 30 years to my wonderfully indulgent husband who only mildly complains when my creative chaos spreads over every level surface in the house! BeadsForLife was founded in 2004 by three women from Colorado...Torkin Wakefield, Ginny Jordan, and Devin Hibbard. The idea for BeadsForLife was born while Ginny Jordan and Torkin Wakefield lived in Uganda. They saw first-hand the impoverished conditions women lived in and the low income they earned by doing manual labor. One day while touring an improvised area they met a woman, Millie Grace Akena, who was making paper beads from scrap paper. 3 Page 3 Design Team Hydrangea Box: I bought this wooden box some time ago saving it for just the right project. A half Styrofoam ball glued to the top with punched flowers glued to it mimics a hydrangea. Some of the stickers are added to the side with rhinestone accents, a bit of ribbon, and a bow to top it off. The leaves are traced from the plants in my garden Double Gift Tag: Two gift tags were affixed together with a brad to make this a card also. It is decorated with one of the hydrangea stickers, eyelash yarn, ribbon, punched flowers and some stems with Flower Soft. Just slide the top tag to add your message. Hi Card: Another hydrangea sticker accents this card, along with Flower Soft stems. If you have not yet tried the Flower Soft, get some!! It is very fun to play with. This flower has a center made with Flower Soft. To make it, roll a tight coil, then form it into a grape roll. Once the glue is dry on the underside, coat top with glue, then add the flower soft. When dry add the petals of your choice and a leaf or two.

4 Page 4 Design Team con t from pg3 Hydrangea Petal Card : The inspiration for this card came from the hydrangea on the Design Paper and the Accessory sheet in the kit. The wine and green colored card stock called my name and I think that they work beautifully together. I knew that it would be a perfect backdrop for the border design of quilled lavender hydrangea petals. This design can easily be modified for a less is more simpler project. I had a Dover clip art book of decorative monograms perfect for reproduction in quilling and I choose the A. I used small shaped teardrop coils to mimic the brush strokes in the original letter design and lavender quilled flowers to finish the monogram. There are so many creative opportunities with quilled monograms! Butterfly Stargazer Lily Card : In keeping with the more is more trend that I seem to be on, I think I packed all that I could into this card! It has floral punched lilies, quilled flowers and leaves, flowers using Flower Soft, and an embossed cut out frame! Again, this design could be pared down and any of the elements, alone or in combination, could be used to make a beautiful card. The idea was born to train local women in the art of paper beadwork to earn money for improving their quality of life. The non-profit organization helps to train the women in all aspects of entrepreneurship. To assist members in launching their own small businesses or in creating new revenue streams, we provide entrepreneurial training, facilitate savings accounts, and make business funds available. In addition to buying and selling the beads, BeadforLife sponsors Community Development projects in health, vocational training for impoverished youth, affordable housing, and business development. These projects are supported with the net profits from the sale of the beads, and support not only beaders, but other impoverished people living in Uganda. 6 Page 6 Sue Reviews Everything hydrangea! This month is a wonderful kit filled with hydrangea stickers, printed hydrangea paper, lots of coordinating papers, rhinestones, matching quilling strips, Flower Soft, and more. The hydrangeas are just starting to bloom in my garden for a little extra inspiration, what perfect timing! Sonya This month s kit is packed with a lot of creative opportunity and I had a hard time keeping it to three cards. As you can see more is more with a lot of my designs and this kit caters to that! But it easily caters to simply elegant also. Hydrangeas, one of my very favorite flowers, are highlighted in the kit with not only designer paper, but an accessory sheet of sticker embellishments as well. Even after making these, I still have many projects worth of supplies and will be able to continue to create beautiful things with the kit! CQ Updates Drawing for a $10.00 Gift Certificate!
