2 From The President of the Fort Rucker Community Spouses Club Hello everyone I am very excited that Autumn is right around the corner We are already enjoying cooler temps at night and that certainly puts me in the right spirit for fall festivities from evening football games with chili and cider to Halloween decorations and raking up leaves But October has also been designated as the month of Breast Cancer Awareness As a club whose members are a majority women we make special precedent to do our part in the ght for the cause I hope you will join us on October rd Along with lunch and a special guest speaker we will be raising money through a bra decorating contest Decorate a bra anyway you like the top three favorites will win some awesome prizes Be sure to bring a little extra cash for voting tickets and good luck - your creativity just might win All proceeds will be turned in to the Susan G Komen Foundation Make sure to look for mine - it s got all the bells and whistles cause I want to make some noise for breast cancer awareness And please mark your calendars in November we will be hosting our Be Thankful luncheon on the th at The Landing and then our annual Hollyday Bazaar on the th at Yano Hall Looking forward to seeing you - Darcy Lynch, FRCSC President 2

7 An Alabama Adventure By Jami Ramirez My husband and I decided to take our nephews on an overnight trip to Mobile to visit the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center and the USS Alabama. If you re looking for fun, educational activities for your kids, these are two great places to go. Our first stop was the Science Center. I think my husband and I had just as much fun here, if not more, than the boys. The museum has four main exhibit areas and an IMAX theater. The My Body Works exhibit features a 12-foot tall beating heart and a virtual surgery center. You can also use the I-Viewer to scan a life-size image of the human body and check out the skeleton, muscle and nervous systems. The Bio Lab exhibit lets kids look under a microscope and even create their own experiments. For the little ones, the Wharf of Wonder is a better fit. The area targets children up to age five. In the ball pit ocean, kids can fish out sea creatures and take them to a pretend market to be weighed and sold. Older kids will certainly enjoy the Hands on Hall which is full of 50 interactive exhibits like a virtual reality video game, a digital DJ and even tug of war. You can even find out your chances of winning the lottery! For more information, check out: Our next stop was the USS Alabama Memorial Battleship Park. My nephews absolutely loved this place. It felt like an adventure from the minute we pulled up. You are just in amazement as you walk up the ramp to get aboard this giant ship. From walking around the deck, to climbing up the different tiers and exploring the inside of the ship, it is all very interesting. For me, going down deep into the ship was so surreal, especially to think that is where men lived, slept and ate in this small space for months at a time. Just remember, the ship does not have air conditioning throughout, so it can get very warm in places. The Park also features a submarine, as well as various planes and helicopters. There is also a tank and a plane that was flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. You can easily spend the whole day walking around and checking it all out. You will be exhausted after a long day of walking around in the sun and on the ship. For more information check out: 7
