Bob Kuchem initiated Michael to the club acknowledging the 109 yrs history of Rotary, and the international service so vital to Rotary. Thank you Bill Bell for hosting Tom s party at Moylan s. We hope Tom will return to the club soon. He plans on continuing his Rotary commitment in Germany. He will miss Tom. VFW Flag Burning ceremony on August 24th Our RCNS goal is 50 members, encourage individuals by inviting them to Rotary service projects and promote club Larry Wade and Bob Dimond (the dynamic duo) will take over the RCNS speaker program. Thank you for stepping up in Tom s absence. Rotary Club of Tiburon Sunset host a polio plus event at the Bay Model Visitor Center, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA on August 3. Contact: Chris Gallagher for more info. Learn about sailing and The America s Cup event:150 Years in the making. Rotary Clubs of Sausalito and Tiburon Belvedere are hosting the Southern Marin Rotary Barbecue event on July 30, 6 9 pm at the San Francisco Bay Model, 2100 Bridgeway Sausalito. The event supports the USA 45 Racing team of elite sailors, years old. See David for more info. Encouraged members to expand their knowledge. District training dates are July 27 & August 3. Announced the next Basic PRLS class for D5150 is Saturday, October 12, endorsing PRLS for expanding our clubs reach with other Rotarians in D5150. Judy Johnson announced a Labor day weekend party at Larry Wade s more to come Marty Wickenheiser, Rotary Club of Novato, invited the membership to their club celebration, Saturday, August 3, 6:30 pm. The event will be at the end of Vineyard Road/ Sunset Corral Caroline Guerrero Announced that the next committee meeting with be this coming Thursday, 01 AUG She reminded the Sunrisers that the upcoming Oktoberfest will include an outdoor patio tent and beer garden, expanding our tickets sales to 100 addition people. The Novato Rotary Sunrise Oktoberfest will be a wonderful event for Novato. Support this wonderful event and out club by purchasing your tickets for you, your family,m and friends. Tickets available online. Barbara Ivy requested support for the gift baskets, and reminded the club to Save the Date October 5th (at the Greek Orthodox Church). Tell your friends to get their tickets early. Michael Landram announced the hike will resume Wednesday at 12. Dan Rice announced the Hamilton Air Force Base clean up day will be in October. 7 Spotlights Club Program Program: Providing clean water for developing countries Speaker: John Dracup Sponsor: Jay Kuhlman John has taught courses in water resources and hydrology at the University of California, Los Angeles and at the University of California, Berkeley for 45 years. His research is in the area of the optimization of large scale water resource systems and the impact of climate variability and climate change on hydrologic processes. He is a Fellow of five professional societies, including ASCE and AGU, and a member of four others. In January 2010, John attended the Uniendo America Project Fair, in Antigua Guatemala, There he learned about Rotary s efforts to provide clean water and sanitation to developing countries in Central America. At this Project Fair John also observed and learned of the importance of the design and construction of biosand filters for individual household use as featured by both the NGOs Aqua Clara and Hydraid. Based on learning about their biosand filters, John attended a four day workshop on the design and construction of biosand filters at CAWST in Calgary, Canada. Based on the CAWST course, John then started a class on the design and construction of biosand filters at U.C. Berkeley for undergraduate students. In January, 2011, John led a Rotary International team to assess the water and sanitation needs on Remba Island, which is located in Lake Victoria, Kenya.
