Endress + Hauser STEM Open House On September 20 th, 2018, Endress & Hauser in Greenwood, Indiana, hosted a STEM Open House for students and parents to learn about the different joys of STEM from

Robotics teams from all around Greenwood set up their own booths in the sales center building, Green Machine and Wired Woodmen included.

Attendees who visited these tables were informed about robotics, FIRST, and last year s competition. They were also given a demonstration on how the robots worked.

2 Endress + Hauser STEM Open House On September 20 th, 2018, Endress & Hauser in Greenwood, Indiana, hosted a STEM Open House for students and parents to learn about the different joys of STEM from various organizations, eat a Chick-Fil-A dinner, win prizes, and go on tours around the complex. Robotics teams from all around Greenwood set up their own booths in the sales center building, Green Machine and Wired Woodmen included. Both of our last year s robots from FIRST s robotics competition Relic Discovery were featured on their own tables. Attendees who visited these tables were informed about robotics, FIRST, and last year s competition. They were also given a demonstration on how the robots worked. Meanwhile, in the Customer Center Building, the cafeteria and the rest of the booths were set up. Colleges such as Purdue and Rose-Hulman, companies such as Duke Energy and Cummings, Johnson County Libraries, and even Endress & Hauser themselves all had informative booths set up. Construction, college paths, 3D printing, and everything STEM was demonstrated at these booths, and visitors even walked away with small prizes such as pens, yo-yos, first aid kits, and brochures.

3 GPL Pizza and Robots On September 27 th, 2018, the Greenwood Public Library Teen HQ invited K-12 students to come for Pizza and Robots to discuss robotics, demonstrate some robots, and eat some delicious pizza. We discussed multiple things about robotics. The main thing discussed was what it is like to be in robotics and what happens during the meetings; also discussed was the method of different groups and its separate sections such as CADD, programming, and the Engineering Notebook. Another main point made was how robotics affected each of us as humans. Some of us came forward and said that robotics did things such as making us more social with friends and allowing us to discover what careers in STEM that we want to pursue. After that, we showed the students the robots from last year s Relic Discovery competition. We described the design and the process of how it was assembled. We allowed the students to drive the robots and complete tasks, such as picking up the relics. Then, what everyone had been waiting for: pizza! Papa John s pizzas were available at the end of the event for students and parents to enjoy.

4 Purdue FIRST Forums On October 6 th, 2018, Purdue University in West Lafayette organized the FIRST Forums, where big and small robotics teams associated with FIRST arrived to take and present classes on their experiences with robotics. All teams were given an introductory class on how the event was going to be carried out: time blocks for teams to lecture. Green Machine, specifically Ivy Rimer, Sophia Alexander, Edward Simpson, and Paul Lundgaard, gave a lecture from 11:00 am to 11:50 am (sharing with Center Grove s robotics team after the presentation was over). The presentation was focused towards robotics teams. It covered topics such as planning, designing, and building a robot; how competitions work and how to properly prepare for them; strategies and tips for gaining points and working with other teams; and lastly, experiences the team itself has had with robotics. It was an overall informative forum, giving us a chance to share.

5 On October 27th, 2018, Greenwood Robotics hosted their annual FIRST Lego League Robotics Workshop for Greenwood teams at Greenwood Middle School. Students in grades 4 through 6 were offered help and advice from high school and middle school team members. We provided five areas for work: (build, drive, research, poster design and interview) This workshop has been very beneficial to our robotics teams. Mrs. Sirkin (Middle School Coach) complimented our interview team on their organization. Our team spent a lot of time preparing for this workshop, so it was nice to see so many students working in the IT area of Greenwood Middle School. All of our FLL teams will have their first competition November 10 th at Center Grove Middle School Central. Judging starting at 9:00am; public welcome at 1:00pm. FLL Robotics Workshop

6 Halloween Party On October 29th, 2018, Greenwood Robotics had some Halloween fun by dressing up and having a pizza dinner during our meeting. Some costumes seen at the meeting include an alien, a karate master, a scarecrow, a cowboy, a lion, an alien, a king, a zombie/ boating accident, the grim reaper, a king, and, interestingly, Mark Zuckerberg. We had this party last year, marking this year as the second year we decided to celebrate. Happy Halloween from Greenwood Robotics!
