The ondutors re mde of luminium for urrents of 1000 to 4500 A, divided into 9 rtings. L3 N Live ondutors re sid to e sndwihed, s shown on the drwing opposite. This onfigurtion redues eletrodynmi fores in the event of short-iruits. Furthermore, the ondutors re held in ple y isoltors, mehnilly independent from the sheet steel struture, whih ounterts these fores. The ondutors re insulted y polyester film. The neutrl ondutor is identified y lue ring inside the usr trunking. The top nd ottom of the sing omprises overs in grey silex AL 7032 pint finished sheet steel with perfortions. The sides re mde of glvnised sheet steel C-shped rils. These re used s protetive ondutors nd every joint is mde in suh wy s to ensure effiient ondutivity. The usr trunking is ventilted, whih enles optimum usge of the ondutive prt. It is designed to e flt-mounted, though it is possile to mount them edgewise. In this se, nturl onvetion is no longer possile, nd the usr trunking must e derted (see hrteristis on pge /3). tright lengths tright distriution lengths There re two types of stright length : i Type EA, for low density distriution without tp-off outlets etween joints. Tp-offs n e mde t eh joint. These stright lengths re mnuftured in 5 or 3 metre sizes. They n e mde to to ny length etween 1 nd 3 metres. i Type ED for high density distriution. Tp-offs n e mde t joints s well s long the length using tp-off outlets (3 for 3 metre length, 5 for 5 metre length). These outlets re fitted with shutter preventing foreign mteril entering when no unit is fitted. With the shutters open, the IP 2 degree of protetion is mintined. KHF-iiEAiii KHF-iiEDiii Conneting stright lengths 8 nlis KHF IP31(IEC 529) Ui = 750 U ~ Eh length is supplied with ll the neessry prts for eletril nd mehnil juntions, inluding the jointing over. The eletril onnetion of lengths is performed y olting the lengths together. Tin pltes re welded t the ends of the ondutors. The pltes re olted together. When there re severl rs per phse, rs whih hve the sme polrity re onneted using equipotentil loks. The olts must e tightened to torque of 4.5 dn.m. This torque is utomtilly rehed when the rekle hed of the olt snps off. This type of jointing is used for mounting fixed tp-off units (type B). It is therefore possile to dd tp-off units to n existing instlltion without modifying the lengths.

The expnsion joints re loted in the entre of the 3 nd 5 metre trunking lengths, nd re omposed of flexile lmintes in luminium. The set of rs re lmped t eh end of the trunking length to orientte the expnsion towrds the entrl expnsion joint. i Building expnsion A stright length, ville in 3 m length only, fitted with doule expnsion joint whih llows for the differentil expnsion etween the rs nd the sing nd etween the sing nd the uilding. It is mounted ross uilding expnsion joint. It is fixed on either side of the uilding expnsion joint in order to firmly tth it to the uilding. This enles ny fore to e diverted to the expnsion joint of the trunking length. Fire-reker All KHF usr trunking lengths (exept ED lengths) n hve 2-hour rting fire rrier (CTB report N C or to ghent unversity lortory test N 7296). When used in vertil position, the fire rrier must e positioned in the entre of the floor sl in order to prevent fire spreding to other levels. Connetion omponents nd feed units There re two types of unit for onneting trunking to vrious types of equipment (distriution pnels, iruit-reker, et) : the le end over nd the end nd le feed units. Flnge feed unit The le end over is reserved for sizes KHF-14, 16 nd 18. It provides simple solution for ny onnetion t the end of trunking run. N L3 T nlis KHF The rs re mde of opper. Whether the trunking is 3L or 3L + N + PE, the le end over is lwys 3L + N + PE. End feed units These units onnet trunking from the end, from elow or from ove. Eh tp-off outlet hs six pertures, five to reeive the ondutors (3 phse + neutrl + erth). The sixth hs lotion devie to ensure orret polrity nd positioning of the unit. These plug-in tp-off units re ville in rtings up to 630 A. They n e fitted with : - UTE/ fused off-lod isoltors ensuring isoltion when the over is opened - n off-lod swith nd UTE/ fuse rrier - fixing for Merlin Gerin iruit-reker, type N, with rotry or eletri ontrol KH-KV onnetor It supplies medium power (200 to 800 A) feed run diretly from tp-off unit instlled on high power distriution run. Its flexile design ommodtes ny hnges in lignment, level nd xis. Determining the rting ording to the temperture rise onsists of seleting the usr trunking rting immeditely ove the operting urrent of the instlltion. However, s rule, the intensity of the urrent whih rosses usr trunking is onstntly flututing. The operting urrent is therefore defined s tht of the onstnt urrent whih produes the sme therml effets s the tul urrent. It is sometimes diffiult to determine the operting urrent, espeilly when no reding hs een mde on the existing instlltion or on n equivlent instlltion. However, the operting urrent is estimted with suffiient preision y lulting the produt of the sum of the nominl urrents of reeivers onneted to the usr trunking y oeffiient known s the verge demnd oeffiient. The verge demnd oeffiient is empirilly determined y omprison with existing instlltions. It is dependent upon : the verge quntity of mhines operting, the lod vrition of eh reeiver ( mhine rrely sors its mximum power, s pek periods lternte with those of no-lod opertion), whether severl mhines re operting t the sme time, whether peks re superimposed nd the durtion of these peks. As n exmple, here re few oeffiients for generl mehnil engineering workshop : Numer of reeivers 2 or 3 4 or 5 6 to 9 10 to nd ove Averge demnd oeffiient Depending on the mient temperture nd instlltion onditions of the usr trunking, they must e up-rted or derted : see the Chrteristis pge opposite. Cheking the rting ording to the permissile voltge drop The permissile voltge drop is tht whih is omptile with the orret opertion of reeivers (refer to the mnufturers' mnuls). ed the voltge drop in V/100 m/a in the tles on pge 10042/3 for the usr trunking seleted ording to the temperture rise. Determine the voltge drop for the most disdvntged reeivers (those whih re the furthest from the soure) nd for the highest urrent. If the voltge drop is not permissile, selet the next highest rting. epet the heking proedure for the new rting. Cheking the rting ording to withstnd to short-iruit urrents Clulte the short-iruit urrent t the points whih re onsidered to e unfvourle. Chek, y referring to the tles on the Chrteristis pge opposite, tht the seleted rting of the usr trunking enles it to withstnd this shortiruit urrent. If not, there re two possile solutions : - selet usr trunking of higher rting nd repet the heking proedure, - provide protetion system whih limits urrent peks.
