Mapping of the ionosphere

Ionosphere Review Ionosphere extends from 85 to 600 km Shell of electrons and charged atoms/ molecules Disrupts satellite communicayon, navigayon and radio astronomy Ionosphere dynamics Diurnal (day vs. night) Seasonal (summer vs. winter) Yearly (solar max vs. min) Vulnerable regions Equatorial (plasma movement) Polar regions (geomagneyc storms) NovAtel Inc Ca property
Data CollecYon Overview GNSS data were recorded on Nov 15-16, 2011 GPSta7on- 6 with GPS GGG antenna Northern Chile, in close proximity to geomagne7c equator NovAtel Inc Ca property
The NovAtel Inc GPStation-6 combines the field-proven enclosure design of the GSV4004B platform with NovAtel Inc. s future-proof OEM628 GNSS receiver. This combination of advanced technologies allows NovAtel to bring to market a performance-proven, next-generation GISTM receiver. The GPStation-6 was designed to provide maximum backward compatibility for existing GSV4004B customers.
NovAtel Inc GISTM = GNSS Ionospheric Scintillation and Total Electron Content (TEC) Monitor Integrated low-noise OCXO enabling observation of phase scintillations Advanced SW for ionospheric monitoring High-rate (50Hz) raw phase & amplitude data Raw TEC, phase, and amplitude data output Code-carrier divergence measurement Internal detrended calculation of ionosphere statistics Code & carrier TEC, slant TEC Various amplitude scintillation metrics S4 Various phase scintillation metrics
Поддерживаемые сигналы
Total Electron Content (TEC) Measure of electric charge present in the ionosphere Total number of free- electrons along a path between two points (1 TECU = 1016 electrons/m2) TECU is mainly influenced by the amount of irradiance received by earth s atmosphere TEC build up: Day Yme (more irradiance) TEC discharge: Night Yme
Video Layout Primary Plots Local time 10s Phase S4 TEC Skyplot NovAtel Inc Ca property

In order to operate the GPStaYon- 6 SW UYlity toolkit, a Windows system is required. It should be noted that the GPStaYon- 6 receiver itself has no reliance on any operayng system and that interface and data processing souware can be developed on a suitable processing plavorm.
The goal of our research is to esymate in real experimental tesyng advantages applicayon the new generayon of GISM for study in real- Yme of effects of propagayon of GNSS signal through disturbance atmosphere. The experiment is conynuing at the present Yme.
A combinayon of raw and summary data may be used to study the diurnal and seasonal trends of the ionosphere at a locayon of interest, in support of scienyfic research and long- term data collecyon.
Summary data can be used for near real- Yme applicayons to generate a local map of the ionosphere, where the primary may be to providing ionospheric correcyons (TEC delay, scinyllayon) for local GNSS users.
