8 PROFILE OF THIS UNIT You are the proud owner of a Yamaha stereo receiver an extremey sophisticated audio component. The Digita Sound Fied Processor (DSP) buit into this unit takes advantage of Yamaha s undisputed eadership in the fied of digita audio processing to bring you a whoe new word of istening experiences. Foow the instructions in this manua carefuy when setting up your system, and this unit wi sonicay transform your room into a wide range of istening environments movie theater, concert ha, and so on. In addition, you get incredibe reaism from sources encoded with Doby Surround using the buit-in Doby Pro Logic Surround Decoder. Pease read this operation manua carefuy and store it in a safe pace for ater reference. Digita Sound Fied Processing What is it that makes ive music so good? Today s advanced sound reproduction technoogy ets you get extremey cose to the sound of a ive performance, but chances are you sti notice something missing: the acoustic environment of the ive concert ha. Extensive research into the exact nature of the sonic refections that create the ambience of a arge ha has made it possibe for Yamaha engineers to bring you this same sound in your own istening room, so you fee a the sound of a ive concert. Furthermore, our technicians, armed with sophisticated measuring equipment, have even made it possibe to capture the acoustics of a variety of venues such as an actua concert ha, theater, etc. to aow you to accuratey recreate one of severa actua ive performance environments, a in your own home. Doby Pro Logic Surround This unit empoys a Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder simiar to professiona Doby Stereo decoders used in many movie theaters. By using the Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder, you can experience the dramatic reaism and impact of Doby Surround movie theater sound in your own home. Doby Pro Logic empoys a four channe five speaker system. The Pro Logic Surround system divides the input signa into four eves: the eft and right main channes, the center channe (used for diaog), and the rear surround sound channes (used for sound effects, background noise, and other ambient noises). The center channe aows isteners seated in even ess-than-idea positions to hear the diaog originating from the action on the screen whie experiencing good stereo imaging. Doby Surround is encoded on the sound track of pre-recorded video tapes, aser discs, and some TV/cabe broadcasts. When you pay a source encoded with Doby Surround on this unit, the Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder decodes the signa and distributes the surround-sound effects. This Doby Pro Logic Surround Decoder empoys a digita signa processing system. This system improves the stabiity of sound at each channe and minimizes crosstak between channes, so that positioning of sounds around the room is more accurate compared with conventiona anaog signa processing systems. In addition, this unit features a buit-in automatic input baance contro. This aways assures you the best performance without manua adjustment. Manufactured under icense from Doby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. Doby, the doube-d symbo and Pro Logic are trademarks of Doby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. Doby Pro Logic Surround + DSP Doby Surround sound system shows its fu abiity in a arge movie theater, because movie sounds are originay designed to be reproduced in a arge movie theater using many speakers. It is difficut to create a sound environment simiar to that of a movie theater in your istening room, because the room size, materias of inside was, the number of speakers, etc. of your istening room is much different from those of a movie theater. Yamaha DSP technoogy made it possibe to present you with neary the same sound experience as that of a arge movie theater in your istening room by compensating for ack of presence and dynamics in your istening room with its origina digita sound fieds combined with Doby Surround sound fied. The combination of Doby Pro Logic Surround and DSP is used on the sound fied program PRO LOGIC ENHANCED. CINEMA DSP The YAMAHA CINEMA DSP ogo indicates these programs are created by the combination of Doby Pro Logic and YAMAHA DSP technoogy. 6
