2 ILRS Ground Segment (2015) New initiatives: Russia, NASA SGP, ISRO, Ny Alesund, Wettzell, Metsahovi, Boroweic, San Juan (China), Korea, etc Still large geographic gap opportunities Anachronistic mix of new and legacy technologies, but Stations are moving from legacy to newer technologies (higher repetition rates and new receivers) 1

8 Analysis Activities ITRF2014 released by ITRS in late 2015 Evaluation by ACs now underway, emphasis on PSD implementation DTRF2014 released by DGFI in January 2016 JTRF2014 released by JPL in March 2016 Once evaluation is completed and ACs are ready, ITRF2014 will be adopted as the ILRS TRF standard to be used throughout operations, analysis, data QC, etc. Orbit product now operational (LAGEOS-1 and -2, Etalon-1 and -2) Implementing a webpage to track and display the statistics and AC performance over time Once ITRF2014 is adopted as the ASC standard, a complete reanalysis since 1983 should provide ITRF2014-based orbital files for the entire period New products related to near real-time system evaluation are in the development stage (contribution to the newly established QC Board) April 20, 2016 GGOS Bureau of Networks and Observations Meeting, Vienna Austria 7

9 Recent ILRS Activities 2015 ILRS Technical Workshop Network Performance and Future Expectations for ILRS Support of GNSS, Time Transfer and Space Debris Tracking held October 26 30, 2015 in Matera, Italy New Quality Control Board organized (Joint activity of Analysis, Networks, and the CB) ILRS Standard raised from 1500 to 3500 passes per year; 600 passes from LAGEOS/LARES Space Debris Study Group formed Coordinate and assist in SD laser ranging (target selection, schedules, data exchange) Experiments/small campaigns initiated to test concepts April 20, 2016 GGOS Bureau of Networks and Observations Meeting, Vienna Austria 8

10 General ILRS Issues/Concerns Filling the remaining geographic gaps will require many more partnerships and lots more resources Due to the increased accuracy requirements of the products, even small systematics (few mm) become important in view of the increase in precision of a majority of the network systems; this issue is now being addressed by the ILRS QC Board Need more on-site tools for diagnostics and real-time performance assessment, allowing systems to make real-time operational decisions Trying to make more use of interactive communication on networks status to share experience and diagnostics Mix of legacy and modern technologies and lack of standards in hardware and operations impacts the quality of the data/products April 20, 2016 GGOS Bureau of Networks and Observations Meeting, Vienna Austria 9
