METEO-FRANCE Tiphaine Labrot The WMO Coordination Group on Satellite Data Requirements for Region III and IV (5-8 Sep 2016, Willemstad, Curaçao)
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION FRENCH POLYNESIA (17.56 N, W) GOES-15 GVAR Antenna : diameter 4 meters L Band 1,7 GHz Polarisation Linear GOES-15 LRIT Backup Antenna : diameter 1,5 meters L Band 1,7 GHz Polarisation Linear
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION LANNION FRANCE (48.73 N, W) : 3 antennas GOES 13 GVAR Motorized antenna : 13 meters L band 1,7 Ghz Linear polarisation
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION LANNION FRANCE (48,73 N, -3,47 W) : 3 antennas GOES 13 GVAR Motorized antenna : 7,20 meters L band 1,7 Ghz Linear polarisation GOES 13 GVAR Motorized antenna : 8,00 meters L band 1,7 Ghz Linear polarisation
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION LANNION FRANCE (48.73 N, W) : The GOES East data are processed at Lannion for Météo-France purpose and also for Eumetsat Applications Facilities (SAF). - developed softwares at Lannion - NWC SAF (*) software for cloud products (*) NWC SAF is an Europeen agreement of Co-operation of a Satellite Application Facility on support to Nowcasting/ and Very Short-Range Forecasting. The SAF Network is supervised and coordinated by Eumetsat
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION What about French Antilles, French Guyana, Saint Pierre et Miquelon? No local reception. The GOES-East products over their areas of interest, are processed at Lannion. The products are sent to Toulouse, then transferred via dedicated telecom links. Toulouse-Martinique : 6 Mbps Toulouse-Guadeloupe : 6 Mbps Toulouse- French Guyana : 4 Mbps Toulouse-Saint Pierre and Miquelon : 10 Mbps
STATUS OF SATELLITE RECEPTION
Status of planning to receive new data (from GOES-R and other) If the final position of GOES-R is 137 W In French Polynesia A new HRIT end-user system will be set up behind the existing antenna first A direct GRB signal reception with a new antenna (4.5 m fixed one) will be set up + use of CSPP-GEO for the processing. We can order the systems only when the final GOES-R position will be known.
Status of planning to receive new data (from GOES-R and other) If the final position of GOES-R is 75 W at Lannion-France A new HRIT end-user system will be set up behind an existing antenna first Different solutions are being studied : A direct GRB signal reception with a new motorized antenna (>6.5 m) will be set up + use of CSPP-GEO for the processing. A direct GRB signal reception using an existing antenna will be set up + use of CSPP-GEO for the processing. Get the GOES data via EUMETCast Ku-Band Europe + via the Product Distribution and Access (NOAA PDA)
Status of planning to receive new data (from GOES-R and other) Eumetsat will propose a service for ABI data
Status of planning to receive new data (from GOES-R and other) For ABI data : Data reception, processing, formatting by NOAA Full disk for the geographical coverage ABI image data in netcdf format For GOES-R lightning mapper (GLM): Data reception, processing, formatting by NOAA Almost full disk for the geographical coverage GLM level 2 products in netcdf format
Status of planning to receive new data (from GOES-R and other) If the solution is to get the GOES data via EUMETCast Ku-Band Europe, for some products, we need ABI channels with a better spatial resolution, we will get them from the NOAA PDA. For processing the data, we will always use the CSPP-GEO software.
Applications with satellite data involvement Products for weather forcasters Products for NWP Products for media Imagery Cloud products (cloud mask, Rapid Development Thunderstorm,...) Multi-satellite mosaics (with GOES-MSG, one with 5 geostationnary satellites)
What is important for France and its overseas departments and territories To know the final position of GOES as soon as possible To get more information on the transition phase To get more information about GEONETCast and its content To get more information about the HRIT service..
Thank you for your attention
