5 AOMSUC-6: Training Events 9 13 November 2015, Tokyo, Japan Monday 9 Training event on meteorological satellite data usage (1) - Utilization of RGB composite image, etc. Tuesday 10 Plenary session (1) Wednesday 11 Plenary session (2) Thursday 12 Plenary session (3) Friday 13 Training event on meteorological satellite data usage (2) - Himawari-8 data acquisition and application, etc. Saturday 14 The 3rd meeting of the Coordinating Group of the RA II WIGOS Project JMA plans to conduct the training events on new generation of geostationary meteorological satellites in cooperation with Australian Bureau, KMA and CMA. After AOMSUC-6, the meeting of RA II WIGOS Project will be held.
6 AOMSUC-6: Request for Target Area Observation Typhoon Noul approaching the Philippines (10 May 2015) Himawari-8 target area observation with 2.5-minute intervals has a high potential to improve severe weather monitoring. JMA is willing to support NMHSs to the best possible extent by providing target area observation upon requests from NMHSs. To realize the request-based observation, JMA will lead the following discussions at AOMSUC It is necessary to clarify users requirements to utilize 2.5- minute interval observations for their disaster risk reduction activities. 2. It is necessary to find a path toward the development of technique on its utilization for operational services.

8 Himawari-8: JMA s Next-Generation Satellite First Shot of Himawari-8 (0240 UTC. 18 Dec. 2014) Himawari-8 was successfully launched on 7 October Currently, Himawari-8 is in the in-orbit commissioning phase. Himawari-8 starts operation in 7 July 2015 replacing MTSAT-2. Himawari-8/9 will observe East Asia and Western Pacific regions for a period of 15 years.
