1 MEMO TO: VIA: FROM: Board of Commissioners Glynn County Finance Committee W. David O Neal, Director Glynn Brunswick 911 Center DATE: July 2, 2012 SUBJECT: Authorize Continuation/Extension of Service Agreement with Motorola Motorola, through Hasty Communications East, Inc., provides infrastructure repair/support services to the Joint Public Safety Communications Department (the JPSCD ) for the Public Safety Communications System (the Radio System ). These repair/support services are contracted for the period September 1 st through August 31 st of each year and are essential to providing reliable communications not only to City and County first responders, but to other users of the Radio System as well. As this is a necessary expenditure of the Glynn-Brunswick 911 Center, the total cost of the Motorola Service Agreement, in the amount of $342,167.32, has been incorporated into the 911 Center s 2012/2013 budget as item Without a continuation of this Service Agreement, the annual costs of repair and maintenance of the Radio System, as well as System downtime, would significantly increase. In addition, without the essential services provided by the Agreement, the JPSCD would be unable to continue to provide reliable lines of communication to users of the Radio System. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve the continuation/extension of the Motorola Service Agreement to ensure the continuation of the necessary infrastructure support/repair services for the Public Safety Communications System. 2. Suggest other alternatives. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative Number #1. RECOMMENDED MOTION FOR THE FINANCE COMMITTEE: I move to recommend that the Board of Commissioners approve the continuation/extension of the Motorola Service Agreement to ensure the continuation of the necessary infrastructure support/repair services for the Public Safety Communications System in the amount of $342,167.32, with funding to be provided by the E911 fund budget. RECOMMENDED MOTION FOR THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS: I move to approve the continuation/extension of the Motorola Service Agreement to ensure the continuation of the necessary infrastructure support/repair services for the Public Safety Communications System in the amount of $342,167.32, with funding to be provided by the E911 fund budget. 1
