2 MESSAGE FROM GORDIE Well the new year is off and running! Yep, I was elected President of the CCB. It is an honor to be sure. Not just because of the size and quality of the club and the great talent of the members, but mainly because of the core group of board members and others who volunteer and devote so much of their time. Gordie Elwell President, CCB So, how does it feel? Well, imagine if you will, standing next to a home treadmill that is running at a normal pace. One guy jumps off (John), and then looks at me. Even though I know what is coming, and even get a running start, the flailing of arms and adjustment to the pace once on the treadmill is really something! So, I am settling into the pace, and relying on the veteran board members to help me on the path. We have plenty to look forward to in this coming year. We have already "upgraded" to a much more user-friendly broadcaster, so hopefully that will become more reliable. We already have had events and field trips, with more on the way. Chuck Palmer will be hosting a "Walkabout" in the Eau Gallie Arts District this Saturday, March 2nd. As with all of Chuck's events, there will be plenty of mentoring available from experienced photographers in the club for everyone to experience and learn from. On March 23rd, we will have a field trip to Washington Oaks Park, which is a fabulous place to stretch and explore your photography skills. Look for all the details in upcoming communications. The schedule is out for guest presenters at monthly meetings this year. Richard Thomson has done yeoman's work bringing in some truly masterful speakers for our meetings. Thank him when you get a chance. So lastly, thank you all for putting me at the front of the room. I will do my best, but I have big shoes to fill. Join in, bring friends, and participate! Gordie 2

It's Not The Video You Grew Up With" Larry is an incredible speaker and teacher. He is an expert photography photo gear reviewer for B&H Photo and a very popular speaker at the prestigious Photoshop World (May 29 to June 1st in Orlando this year) and the National Association of Broadcasters. He is always a favorite speaker at worldwide photography events. The CCB is honored Larry accepted our invitation to present to the Camera Club of Brevard members and guests. This will be a special program you ll want to attend. Larry Becker s Bio: Working on both sides of the camera, Larry Becker is primarily known for his on-camera presentations for Fortune 100 companies, as a spokesperson, as well as a camera reviewer. Larry hosts Photoshop World annually, he has hosted countless web-based photography shows, live webcasts, authored camera and software tutorials, and served as an official NAB Show Live anchor for several years. Larry spent years managing a video production team in a multi-million-dollar studio, with clients including Canon USA, B&H Photo NY, and others. These days, when Larry isn t on camera as a spokesperson, he coaches still shooters wanting to learn video, and on-camera talent, helping them produce quality business videos. She heads the photography department, and she provides outstanding workshops and classroom sessions May 7th Ashlea Lisefski- "Extraordinary Pet Photography" Ashlea Lisefski is an outstanding photographer in one of the toughest arenas of photography. She captures incredible images of pets and animals in the studio, and in natural settings. CCB Scavenger Hunt Melbourne Beach February 9, 2019 FEBRUARY FIELD TRIP On a beautiful Saturday morning, Camera Club of Brevard members gathered in the historic beachside town of Melbourne Beach to

5 CCB Scavenger Hunt Melbourne Beach February 9, 2019 FEBRUARY FIELD TRIP On a beautiful Saturday morning, Camera Club of Brevard members gathered in the historic beachside town of Melbourne Beach to participate in the club s Annual Scavenger Hunt Field Trip. It was a perfect day to take photographs. For the Hunt, teams of photographers were formed. Each team received a list of easily found subjects to photograph, and they had one hour to photograph all subjects. When the teams completed their photography, they visited the nearby Melbourne Beach History Center to review each team s favorite photo of each subject. The subjects for the Scavenger Hunt were: Historic, A Splash of Color, Using Shallow Depth of Field, House of Worship, 1936 Mercedes Roadster, Water, and a Group Photo of the Team. When the teams saw the 1936 Mercedes Roadster on the subject list, they were all puzzled. Where do you find that car in Melbourne Beach? Well, lo and behold, a 1936 Mercedes Roadster drives up, and everyone is thrilled to take photos of the car and its owner. What a great surprise for the CCB members! The review for the photographs each team s images was a lot of fun and learning what inspired fellow participants to take that particular photo. All the teams captured very creative photos. The Scavenger Hunt is a great way to have fun and learn a little bit about taking creative images. After the photo review, members visited the nearby Sunnyside Café for a fantastic breakfast. CAPTURE FLORIDA 2019 On June 4th at the regular monthly meeting, the CCB will be offering an AV program entitled Capture Florida 2019.

10 CAPTURE FLORIDA 2019 On June 4th at the regular monthly meeting, the CCB will be offering an AV program entitled Capture Florida This is an opportunity for all club members to explore Florida, create images, and submit your Capture Florida images with virtually no restrictions. Below are goals, guidelines and a few suggestions to help you get started with your Capture Florida 2019 photography. Good luck! GOALS Provide a venue for all CCB members, regardless of skill level, to display their photographs Give equal representation for all CCB members without competition Create a project for the club to create images that define Florida in some way Encourage learning by doing Foster friendships within the CCB through Capture events (workshop or photo walk) Showcase Florida as a beautiful place to live Share our photography with the Brevard community and the State of Florida GUIDELINES No time limits on when the photos were taken There is no theme. use this project as an excuse to get out there Color, Black & White, Monochromes are acceptable Heavily manipulated images are discouraged. HDR acceptable Submit up to 5 images Crop to 2000 pixels on the longest dimension Sample labels: anseladams1.jpg, anseladams2.jpg, etc Choose horizontal or vertical but do not submit both of the same subject Horizontal will appear larger in the slide presentation Send images to info@ccbrevard.com as attachments rather than embedded images Don t wait until the 2nd week in May to take and process your photos Have fun. Learn. Create your own photo walks! The images will be shown at the June 2019 meeting. Please don t include your signature in your photos No photos accepted after May 18,

SPOTLIGHT ON IAN JOHNSON Ian Johnson is our Spotlight Person of the Month Ian was born, raised, educated as a doctor, married and taught to speak English in India.

In 2011, he retired and was successful in turning his Doctor job into a hobby and his hobbies into a job. Ian says, My future plans are not to mess with success!

Ian and his wife s passion for travel has taken them to Australia, New Zealand, The Mediterranean and Baltic, Eastern Europe, Alaska, New England, Canada and the Caribbean.

11 SPOTLIGHT ON IAN JOHNSON Ian Johnson is our Spotlight Person of the Month Ian was born, raised, educated as a doctor, married and taught to speak English in India. He emigrated to the United States with his family 44 years ago, and settled in Palm Bay, FL after a 24-year career in the US Air Force. Ian served as a pediatrician and Flight Surgeon. In 2011, he retired and was successful in turning his Doctor job into a hobby and his hobbies into a job. Ian says, My future plans are not to mess with success! Hobbies include Travel, Photography, Tooling Leather, Silversmithing and collecting Spanish porcelain. Ian and his wife s passion for travel has taken them to Australia, New Zealand, The Mediterranean and Baltic, Eastern Europe, Alaska, New England, Canada and the Caribbean. Future trips include: The Arctic circle, and Finland this November and Ireland and Iceland next Summer. Ian in his own words I blame my Dad for exposing me to the Magic and Wonder of the Dark Room. Developing film and seeing an image appear on paper in a wet bath pure magic! Dad gave me my first Box camera at the age of 10 and my second camera, a Double-lens Reflex on entry into medical school at 20. I bought my first 35 mm SLR in 1976, an OLYMPUS OM1. It was my only camera for 25 years till things went digital. I went mirrorless with FUGI for my first digital camera choice because they make fabulous lenses. My first Fuji was an X Pro-1. I now shoot with an X T-1 with 3 lenses, a 35mm, a 14 mm wide-angle and a Telephoto Zoom. My travel camera is a cell phone and an OLYMPUS OMD e10 Mk II. I shoot everything I fancy and only for FUN. Ian suggests, I discovered the best way to get better at photography is to join a good club. Thank you CCB! Be open to learn from folks who ve, been there and done that!.
