3 A. GENERAL CONDITIONS (Applies t all Divisins/Sectins) 1. Exhibitin Prcess: This Exhibitin will be cnducted accrding t the recmmended practices f the Phtgraphic Sciety f America (PSA). 2. Eligibility: The exhibitin is pen t anyne; hwever, an entry may be rejected when the spnsring rganizatin r its agent, in its reasnable discretin, believes the entry des nt cnfrm t the exhibitin rules and cnditins. An entrant s images will nt be presented t the judges cnsecutively. An entrant s fur images will be distributed thrughut fur runds f judging in that sectin. Distributin f images shall be in the same rund rder as submitted by the entrant. Entries must riginate as phtgraphs (image-captures f bjects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant n phtgraphic emulsin r acquired digitally. By virtue f submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the wrk as his wn (aliases are nt permitted). The entrant permits the spnsrs t reprduce all r part f the entered material free f charge fr publicatin and/r display in media related t the exhibitin. This may include lw reslutin psting n a website. Nte: Entrants wh indicate that their images may nt be reprduced r used will nt be eligible fr awards r inclusin in audi-visuals f the exhibitin and culd be subject t disqualificatin by the exhibitin spnsrs. The exhibitin assumes n liability f any misuse f cpyright. Images may be altered, either electrnically r therwise, by the maker. Artwrk r cmputer graphics created by the entrant may be incrprated prvided the phtgraphic cntent predminates, subject t Nature, Pht Travel and Phtjurnalism divisinal restrictins. All final wrk must be n phtgraphic film, r n electrnic file, r n phtgraphic r electrnic print material, munting excepted. N title r identificatin f the maker shall be visible anywhere n the face f an image, print mat r munt entered in a PSA Recgnized exhibitin. Each image must have a unique title. Once an image has been accepted in a PSA Recgnized exhibitin, that same image, r a like in camera r a reprductin duplicate f that image: i. May nt be entered r re-entered in any sectin f the same Divisin Star Ratings class in that exhibitin regardless f media, frmat, r title. ii. May nt be re-titled fr entry in any ther PSA Recgnized exhibitin, including translatin int anther language. 4 An image may be entered in nly ne sectin where acceptances f that image in multiple sectins wuld be eligible fr the same star path. 3. Sanctins: Entries will nt be accepted frm individuals wh are currently sanctined by PSA. 4. Breach f Cnditins f Entry: If the exhibitin determines befre, during, r after the judging that an entrant has submitted entries where ne r mre images fail t cmply with these Cnditins f Entry, including the stated definitins, the exhibitin reserves the right and discretin t delete the entry frm the exhibitin and vid any r all acceptances r awards. Fees may be frfeited in these circumstances. In rder t ensure that images cmply with the Cnditins f Entry and definitins, the exhibitin may carry ut checks n the images t make sure that: a) the images are the riginal wrk f the entrant and b) the images cmply with the rules and definitins as set ut in these Cnditins f Entry. This may invlve asking the entrant t prvide riginally captured image(s), with EXIF data intact, by a set deadline. The questined image(s) f any entrant failing t cmply with such a request fr the riginal image(s) may be cnsidered in breach f these Cnditins f Entry, and declined Such entries may be referred t PSA fr further investigatin f pssible ethics vilatins. PSA retains the right t investigate in any way all cmplaints/suspicins f breaches f entry cnditins, impse sanctins if deemed necessary, include the entrant's name n the list f sanctins prvided t Exhibitins, and share such investigatins with FIAP. Entrants autmatically agree t these terms by the act f entering the Exhibitin. 5. Entrant: T receive prper Star Ratings credit frm PSA, entrants must prvide their name and cuntry exactly the same* in each exhibitin. Aliases are nt permitted. * Please cntact PSA in the event f name changes r relcating t anther cuntry. 6. Image Definitin: The term "IMAGE" is used belw t mean either a prjected image r a print. 7. Image Creatin: Entries must riginate as phtgraphs (image captures f bjects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant n phtgraphic emulsin r acquired digitally. By virtue f submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the wrk as his wn (aliases are nt permitted). Entries may nt incrprate elements prduced by anyne else*. ALL MEDAL-WINNING IMAGES AND RANDOMLY SELECTED OTHER ACCEPTED IMAGES WILL BE CHECKED FOR ORIGINALITY AND COPYRIGHT VIOLATION! *Fr example: clip art, images r art by thers dwnladed frm the Internet, phts by NASA. 8. Alteratin and Cmputer Generatin: Subject t divisinal restrictins (i.e., Nature, Pht Travel, Phtjurnalism), images may be altered, either electrnically r 2018 DDISP Cnditins f Entry February 17, 2018 Page 4

5 therwise, by the maker, and artwrk r cmputer graphics created by the entrant may be incrprated, if the phtgraphic cntent predminates in a way that is bvius t the viewer. Images may nt be cnstructed entirely with a cmputer. 9. Entry/Sectins: An Entry cnsists f up t and including fur (4) images per Sectin entered by a single Entrant int the same Sectin. The fur r fewer images in a Sectin will be distributed thrughut fur runds f judging. 10. Same r Similar Images: An image can nly be entered nce in the same Detrit Internatinal Saln f Phtgraphy exhibitin. Fr this purpse, images that are substantially similar are cnsidered t be the same image. CAUTION: images that are f the same subject entered int a Divisin - even if nt the same r substantially similar images - run the risk f lwer scres frm the judges: entrants are urged t enter a variety f images int each Divisin. 11. Certificatin/Psting: By virtue f submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the wrk in an image as their wn and permits the Spnsr t reprduce all r part f the entered material free f charge fr display and/r publicatin in media related t the exhibitin. This may include lw reslutin psting n a website. An image will be disqualified if it is accmpanied - in the metadata r elsewhere - by a statement that prhibits the Spnsr's right t reprduce the image as defined in the previus tw sentences. The Spnsr assumes n respnsibility fr any misuse f cpyright by anyne List: By virtue f submitting an entry, the Entrant accepts that his/her address will be used fr cmmunicating infrmatin abut this Exhibitin; may be used fr annuncements f future PSA-recgnized exhibitins spnsred by either the Spnsr r any f its member clubs; and may be used by PSA as indicated in the next paragraph. The Entrant may pt ut f this list after the Exhibitin by ntifying inf@ddisp.rg. Use f Addresses by PSA: The addresses f entrants whse images are accepted int this Exhibitin will als be frwarded t PSA. PSA affirms that "Entrant s will nly be used t help crrect ways the same entrant s name is listed by different Exhibitins. Entrant s will nt be published, made available t the public, nr used in any prmtins". The Spnsr f this Exhibitin supprts PSA's bjectives in this regard but can take n respnsibility fr PSA's actins. 14. Re-Entry: Each image must have a unique title. Once an image has been accepted in a PSA-recgnized exhibitin, that same image r an image that is substantially the same image, r a like in camera r a reprductin duplicate f that image: 1. May nt be re-entered in any sectin f the same Divisin Star Ratings class in that exhibitin regardless f media, frmat, r title. 2. 6 * Mnchrme versins f images entered int PID Clr maybe entered int PID Mnchrme but nly in a different year; als clr versins f images entered int PID Mnchrme may be entered int PID Clr, but nly in a different year. Titles: Titles will nt be read at judging. Titles must be 35 characters r fewer. A title may nly be included in the image nly if it is an integral part f the image -- such as the name f a restaurant r the title f a sheet f music that appear in the image. Nthing in the image may identify the maker. Titles may nt include file extensins such as.jpg r.jpeg (r any ther camera capture filenames), r wrds such as "untitled" r "n title"; neither can titles cnsist slely f numbers. 15. Judge Recusal: Scres f judges wh are clse relatives r partners f entrants will nt be cunted in the entrant s ttal scre fr any f the entrant s images. An average f the ther tw judges scres will be used. Such images are als nt eligible fr medals r hnrable mentins, althugh they may be accepted int the exhibitin. Images entered by exhibitin chairs are als nt eligible fr medals r hnrable mentins. 16. Digital Image Frmat: Digital images must be in JPEG frmat, srgb clr space and shall nt exceed 1,050 pixels in width and 1,050 pixels in height. Images larger than the permitted size will autmatically be rejected alng with a request t resubmit a crrectly sized image. The file size shall nt exceed 2 MB and file names shall nt exceed 35 characters. 17. Prjectin: Images will be prjected using a Cann SX80 Mark II with 1400x1050 reslutin. See "Digital Image Frmat" abve hwever, fr restrictins n image size. 18. Target Rate fr Acceptances: The target acceptance rate will be between 25% and 35% in each Class. 19. Entry Frms: Digital entries must be entered using the nline entry prcess fund at CDs and attachments are NOT permitted. 20. Dates and places fr the exhibitin f Images: The Phtgraphic Guild, Suthfield, Michigan, September 24, 2018 and The Grsse Pinte Camera Club. 21. Fees and Payment: 1. The entry fees are $8.00 per Sectin fr all sectins. 2. GDCCC Members Entry Fee shall be $7.00 per sectin fr all sectins. All fees must be paid via PayPal using the Spnsr's nline payment system. 7 frwarded t anther exhibitin. 22. Prir Review: All images received in time befre the judging will be reviewed by the Exhibitin rganizers fr cmpliance with these Cnditins f Entry. Any image fund nt t be in cmpliance will be disqualified and nt entered int judging; the entrant will be ntified f the disqualificatin and invited - if there is time - t send a substitute image. 22. Catalg: The catalg f the Exhibitin will nly be in the frm f a PDF dwnladable frm the Exhibitin website DDISP Cnditins f Entry February 17, 2018 Page 7

8 B. DIVISIONS AND SECTIONS Definitins Used and Judging Criteria There are n restrictins as t subject matter except as utlined in the rules and definitins f specific sectins (see belw). Prjected Image Divisin: Clr Class Prjected Image Divisin: Mnchrme Class Nature Divisin DIGITAL DIVISIONS PROJECTED IMAGE DIVISION (PID): COLOR CLASS There are three sectins, Clr General (Open) and Clr Theme (Scapes) and Nautical. Please use the Entry Frm at: Sectin 1: Clr General (Open) Clr images are judged bth fr their technical and pictrial merit. The image shuld be prperly expsed, be apprpriately in fcus, and have apprpriate depth f field. The image shuld have strng cmpsitin, pleasing quality, and clr impact. The cntent is unrestricted. IMPORTANT NOTE: Images eligible fr entry int PID Mnchrme Class (see belw) may NOT be entered int this Exhibitin's PID Clr Class. Spt clr images with a greyscale backgrund, hwever, may be entered. Sectin 2: Theme (Scapes) IN ADDITION t the requirements fr Sectin 1, the dminant subject must be a brad landscape, cityscape, r seascape. Sectin 3: Nautical IN ADDITION t the requirements fr Sectin 1, the dminant subject must be f a Nautical theme. 9 PROJECTED IMAGE DIVISION (PID): MONOCHROME CLASS There is ne sectin, Mnchrme General (Open) Please use the Entry Frm at: Sectin 1: Mnchrme General (Open) An image is cnsidered t be Mnchrme nly if it gives the impressin f having n clr (i.e. cntains nly shades f gray which can include pure black and pure white) OR it gives the impressin f being a grayscale image that has been tned in ne clr acrss the entire image (fr example by sepia, red, gld, etc.). A grayscale r multi-clred image mdified r giving the impressin f having been mdified by partial tning, multi tning r by the inclusin f spt clring des nt meet the definitin f mnchrme and shall be classified as a Clr Wrk. Brders in mnchrme, if any, must be clred the same as the verall image, that is, in shades f grey fr a greyscale image; r tned in the same clr as the rest f the image fr a tned image. Mnchrme images are judged bth fr their technical and pictrial merit. The image must be prperly expsed, be in fcus, and have apprpriate depth f field. A mnchrme image shuld have strng cmpsitin; pleasing quality; and texture, pattern, and/r tne impact. The cntent is unrestricted. NATURE DIVISION There is ne sectin: General (Open) Please use the Entry Frm at: WHITE OR GREY BORDERS OF 3, 4, PIXELS IN WIDTH ARE PERMITTED. LARGER, SMALLER OR COLOR BORDERS ARE NOT PERMITTED. Entrants are, hwever, advised that brders f less than 2 pixels may appear incmplete in the smaller images used in the final Catalg due t jpeg artifacts. Nature Phtgraphy: Nature phtgraphy is restricted t the use f the phtgraphic prcess t depict all branches f natural histry, except anthrplgy and archaelgy, in such a fashin that a well-infrmed persn will be able t identify the subject material and certify its hnest presentatin. The stry telling value f a phtgraph must be weighed mre than the pictrial quality while maintaining high technical quality DDISP Cnditins f Entry February 17, 2018 Page 9

10 Human elements shall nt be present, except where thse human elements are integral parts f the nature stry such as nature subjects, like barn wls r strks, adapted t an envirnment mdified by humans, r where thse human elements are in situatins depicting natural frces, like hurricanes r tidal waves. Scientific bands, scientific tags r radi cllars n wild animals are permissible. Phtgraphs f human created hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, dmestic animals, r munted specimens are ineligible, as is any frm f manipulatin that alters the truth f the phtgraphic statement. N techniques that add, relcate, replace, r remve pictrial elements except by crpping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentatin f the phtgraph withut changing the nature stry r the pictrial cntent, r withut altering the cntent f the riginal scene, are permitted including HDR, fcus stacking and ddging/burning. Techniques that remve elements added by the camera, such as dust spts, digital nise, and film scratches, are allwed. Stitched images are nt permitted. All allwed adjustments must appear natural t the viewer. Clr images may be cnverted t greyscale mnchrme. Infrared images, either direct-captures r derivatins, are nt allwed. Sequences are nt permitted. Clarificatin fr Nature Open/General: Images entered in Nature Open/General meeting the Nature Phtgraphy Definitin abve can have landscapes, gelgic frmatins, weather phenmena, and extant (that is, still in existence) rganisms as the primary subject matter.
