1 Volume 3 Issue 10 September, The Sketchpad This project is funded in part by the City of Richardson through the Richardson Art Commission Priscilla Krejci, AWS Priscilla Krejci, originally from Long Island, New York, has lived in Texas for 30 years and resides in Allen. She pursued a career as a registered nurse and kept artistic endeavors secondary until painting consumed more and more of her time. Her works include a variety of subject matter, influenced by travels both in the US and abroad, as well as her experiences in nursing. Purple House Priscilla is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and Southwestern Watercolor Society. Her work has been selected in regional, national, and international shows including the Western Federation of Watercolor societies, American Watercolor Society, the Rocky Mountain National Watercolor Exhibition, Watercolor USA, and Watercolor Without Boundaries Texas - Italia Her work has been included in the books: Best of Watercolor- Painting Composition; Best of Watercolor - Painting Light and Shadow; People in Watercolor, and the 2001 and 2004 summers issues of "International Artist". Artist Statement: Watching the effect of water and color intermingling always fascinates me and I try to bring these happenings into my interpretation of various subjects. My goal is to be the kind of artist that would be pleasing to God." Crystal Dead Sea **Priscilla will offer a watercolor workshop at Artist s Showplace on Friday and Saturday, 9/25 and 9/26, deadline for reserving a seat ($50) is September 16th. Call Susan Martin, to enroll.
2 Volume 3 Issue 10 September, st place: Lisa Alderson for Texas Barbados, pastel 2nd place: Rosa Wan for Sunday Afternoon, pastel Rosemary Cheney Award to Judy Stubbs for Carillon on the River Walk, watercolor Our thanks to Asel Art Supply for their continued support of Painting of the Month. Asel contributes the merchandise certificates for 1st and 2nd prizes. May Painting of the Month This is the first edition done by your new editor, who takes over from the firm hands and wonderful work of your former editor, Dick Mussett. These are very big shoes to fill and I ll give it a try. We all owe Dick a very big thank-you for his efforts to keep things rolling in this department over the years. Be aware that your paper is only as good as the input, so you will need to let me know about events, changes, updates, achievements, etc. We could use help with mailing to members who don t have access to a computer. I look forward to the new year ahead and seeing some wonderful art. We are proud of all our Artist Friends Membership Show 2009 Regional Best of Show The ceremony hanging the RCAS Purchase & Gigantic Color Gold Award of the 2009 Regional Show took place in the Richardson Main Library on the second floor. Attending from left to right was RCAS President Barbara McNutt, Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel, the Regional Show Winner, Barbara Elam, Richardson Library RCAS Liaison Ludmila Pospelova, and Library Director Steven Benson. The title of the picture is Waiting for the Parade and can be seen at the Library. Our thanks to both gentlemen for attending the ceremony and their continuing support. On the following page is the Prospectus for the 2009 Membership Show. You must be a member of RCAS to be a part of the show, so either join at the first meeting or when you bring your work in. Note that the dimensions for works have changed slightly to offer a better view when the work is mounted on the screens. The screens are 36 wide and, by limiting the size, your work will not hang over the side of the screen. It will show better and allow for more works to be hung. Judge for this show is Cathleen Cotter-Smith, SWS. She has a BS from Texas A&M Commerce in Art Education and a MS in Painting/Drawing from Texas A&M Commerce. She was an Associate Art Professor at Grayson Community College in Dennison and since 1986 to currently an Art Professor at Collin County Community College in Plano.
