2 Welcome and thank you Hello and welcome to the seventh City Hospice Art Auction, supported by the Thomas Carroll Group. I d like to thank all of the artists who have donated pieces of artwork to our auction. They come from across Wales, the UK and even include donations from closer to home, from staff and families we have helped. We are so grateful for your support. As many of you know, City Hospice has been a part of the Cardiff community for the past 34 years. We provide medical, nursing and endof-life care to patients in their own homes and support to their families. Events like this one go towards helping us to raise the 2m needed to continue providing this vital service. We would like to thank you for supporting Cardiff s leading charity and for allowing us to keep helping those patients and families who need us the most. 3 How the auction works On the night The event will start at 7pm where you will be able to have a walk around and see the art on display. There will be wine and canapes on offer during the night. If you see anything that you might like to bid on, please see a member of staff to get your bidding number. You will then use this number throughout the evening to bid on the artwork you would like to buy. The auction will start at 8pm, with our auctioneer going through each lot in catalogue order. When this is finished, you will be able to pay for the pieces you have won. We accept all major credit and debit cards. We not accept American Express. You are welcome to come to the hospice a few days after the auction to pay and collect your artwork. On the night If you can t make it to the auction, don t worry, you can still take part. Give our Fundraising Team a call on and place your bid with them. Let them know the amount you are willing to pay and they will bid on your behalf. We will then get in touch so we can arrange payment for your purchase. 2 The Purple House by Emma Cownie

4 Our auctioneer: Ben Rogers Jones If you re a fan of BBC One s Bargain Hunt, you will recognise our man wielding the gavel as he s a regular auctioneer on the programme. Ben is an antique s expert from Cardiff auctioneers, Rogers Jones & Co, and has a wealth of knowledge about fine art. One of his lots made the news in 2015 when he sold an All Blacks rugby shirt for 180,000, the highest ever price for a rugby shirt at a Cardiff auction. Bargain Hunt auctioneer, Ben Rogers Jones 3

25 Lot 36 We All Had Doctors Papers by Gren Gallery price 90cm x 51cm Large limited edition print Framed Signed by Max Boyce Inspired by the famous Scarlets 9-3 victory over the All Blacks in 1972, Max Boyce penned one of his most famous poems. A line from which, We all had Doctors Papers, was used as the name for his no 1 best-selling album. Wales most loved cartoonist, Gren Jones was asked to draw the artwork for the cover of the record. This cover was named the second best design in the world, only losing out to Pink Floyd s, Dark Side of the Moon. 24

26 City Hospice is a registered charity at the heart of Cardiff, providing specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. We help people with life-limiting illnesses such as dementia, cancer, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). We provide specialist palliative care to these people in their own homes as well as offering counselling (adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities. Built on the goodwill of local people, City Hospice, has been a part of the local community for the last 34 years. We changed our name from George Thomas Hospice Care to City Hospice in August We are the only specialist palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and we need to raise a total of 2m to keep providing our specialist services.
