3 Of Time Kit Johns has gained critical acclaim throughout the South West for his ocean scenes using vintage maps as his canvas. The energy that this artist has, literally jumps out of his work. A variety of mediums are used including various bits of flotsam found on the shoreline in certain works. This October The Summerhouse Gallery is excited to showcase a celebration of land and sea, featuring the work of artists Kit Johns and Kate Richardson. & TIDE In this new work there are sunny summer beaches, bursting with colour depicting family holidays dotted with rainbow coloured parasols and windbreaks, these paintings beautifully contrast with the inky blues of his stormy seas and fiery winter sunsets. Since moving studios earlier this year, his work has undertaken a fresh burst of inspiration and vigor and will only further brighten the path of this rising star. Kit Johns

4 Kate Richardson Kate Richardson is a favourite of many, her weather beaten trees are synonymous with the Cornish landscape, and set against a stormy sky or a sunny vista they become an object of beauty and intrigue. In this body of work we find secretive roadways and paths in paintings filled with the promise of a journey. There are incredibly beautiful autumnal scenes of the moon rising and lighting the river and landscape below, Kate has used a subdued more serene palette, which gives this work an ethereal look which entrances. We think her ever growing fan base will love this latest evocative work which captures the enchanting change of seasons. Her hallmark gold and copper leaf can still be found, there are bursts of colour in these paintings that simply fill you with joy. Of Time and Tide will act as a reflection upon the changing seasons, as we transition from a summer of sunshine (and showers!) into the equally beautiful Cornish winter. We are thrilled here at The Summerhouse to showcase a collection of new work from two exciting and contrastingly striking artists. Both of whom have wonderful futures ahead.
