1 1 PATCHES AND PIECES November, 2017 Letter From the President Welcome Guild Member, Family, and Friends, I can't believe that I have completed my first year of service as your president. Where did the time go? Please don't answer that. I say thank you for putting your trust in me and electing me to a second term. I'm writing this note from the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I hope everyone gets the chance to attend at least once. The quilts are wonderful, the class offerings extensive, and the people are lovely. That being said, and you may call me biased, but IQA has nothing on TRQ! Community service night was a success, there were many, lovingly made quilts. Thank you everyone for participating, I am awed by your generosity. Lastly may everyone have a safe, blessed holiday season. See you at the next meeting, Until then, Beth xox In This Issue Officers and Committee Heads 2 Workshops and Meetings 3 Busy Bee 4 Recipes 4 Upcoming Quilt Shows Lebanon Quilters Guild Exhibition of Quilts, Nov. 10 & 11, 10-6 ea. 5 2018 Quilt Show Mark your Calendar with these important dates. THEME: Seasons 5 Another quilt show is coming up and it is not too early to make plans. Get those quilts ready for the show. The next newsletter is not until Feb 2018 so I am just hitting the bases with things to put on your calendar. Most important. We need some people to work as a Quilt Show Committee Chairpersons. Judging Coordinator - Luanne would like to train someone this year to take over for her in This is not a huge job and is great for a new member. Sign Maker We need someone to help make any signs we need (most are small and can be handmade or printed from a computer). Also, they should be available on setup day (Wed., Apr 25.) to hang the signs. I am sure Erma will share her methods and offer help. DEMO Coordinator A person or persons to schedule the demos for the show and then manage them during the show. This might be a great job for a few people, especially during the show. Meeting for Committee Chairpersons Jan 27, 2018 Saturday - 1PM 3PM at Linus Project, 608 Weyman Rd, Behind Caste Village. ALL Members are also welcome to attend if you want to get involved as future chairpersons. Raffle Tickets are available at every meeting $1 tickets for $10. Each member is expected to take a pack to sell. If you sell all 10 tickets the 2 remaining tickets are yours free of charge. Nice deal. Or just keep them all and hope for the best. Advance Sale Tickets (also known as Family and Friends Tickets) will be available for $7 each at the February, March and April meetings (check or cash only) See Liz Hayes, Tracy Finnell, or Nancy Palmquist for these tickets. Exact Change is appreciated, or a check to TRQ. Directions to the Meadows: GPS Address: The Meadows Casino, 210 Racetrack Rd, Washington, PA Quilt Show is in the Triple Crown Suites and Banquet Rooms. Go to Route 19 and go south toward Washington, PA. Turn Right on Racetrack Rd. At Meadows Casino Driveway turn Right, follow drive around to first parking structure on right. Go to 4 th floor and park near entrance to casino. If you live closer to I-79 drive to I-79 and go South to Racetrack Road Exit (there are signs directing you to Meadows Casino) Turn Left on Racetrack Rd then look for entrance to Meadows on Left. Follow drive around to Casino parking structure on Right. Go to 4 th floor and part near entrance to casino. Quilt Entry Deadline: March 27, 2017 We also plan to have an Appraiser on Thurs AM, so keep that in mind. Volunteers allow us to do such a nice show. As I have said before: Many hands make light work. Jobs the week of the show include: Judging, Quilt Hanging, Hostess, Registration/Admissions, Grannie s Attic Flea Market, Quilt Take Down. Sign Up sheets will be available at the Feb., Mar., and April Meetings. QUILT PHOTOS We will have the rack and camera available before the February and March meetings. If your quilt is ready and you want photos, bring it at 6PM so we can get pictures before the meeting starts. Charge: $1 per quilt for pictures. Grannie s Attic Flea Market Bring donations of sewing related items in good condition to the event center on April 24 th or April 25 th (Tuesday and Wednesday) between 10AM and 3PM, such as fabric, books, magazines, patterns, and sewing notions. Do not save batting scraps we will not accept any batting scraps next year. UFO s that need a new home or left over blocks from a project are always a hit. Fabric should be tied and labeled with a yardage noted (to the nearest quarter yd) to save time. (I use saved salvages cut off my fabrics to tie and a label on a string to list quantity.) DO NOT USE TAPE or STAPLES PLEASE. Take this time to do some house cleaning and make some space by donating those fabrics you just know will never be used, or patterns you bought with all good intentions. Call Betty Jane Szydlowski at or Sandra Palmquist at to make arrangements if you have items, but cannot get them to Casino on those days. They have limited space so please try to deliver yourself, if possible.
