WOVEN SCRAPS To create this pretty coverlet, Cathy Grivnow wove short lattice strips together to make squares and then joined them in a distinctive arrangement.

2 WOVEN SCRAPS To create this pretty coverlet, Cathy Grivnow wove short lattice strips together to make squares and then joined them in a distinctive arrangement. Finished Size: 51 x 67½ MATERIALS Worsted Weight Yarn: Ecru - 53 ounces, (1,510 grams, 2,995 yards) Pink - 9½ ounces, (270 grams, 535 yards) Blue - 9½ ounces, (270 grams, 535 yards) Green - 9½ ounces, (270 grams, 535 yards) Crochet hook, size H (5.00 mm) or size needed for gauge Safety pins Yarn needle GAUGE: Each Square = 5¾ Gauge Swatch: 1 w x 4½ h Work same as Lattice Strip. STITCH GUIDE DECREASE (uses 2 chs and 2 joinings) Insert hook in next ch, YO and pull up a loop, (insert hook in next joining, YO and pull up a loop) twice, insert hook in next unworked ch on next Square, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through all 5 loops on hook. LATTICE STRIP Note: Make the following number of Lattice Strips in the color indicated: Pink - 112, Blue - 112, Green - 108, and Ecru With color indicated, ch 4 loosely. Row 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook and in last 2 chs: 3 sc. Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to mark Row 1 as right side. Rows 2-14: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. Finish off. BORDER Note: Rnd 1 of Border is worked across short edges of Lattice Strips; be careful not to catch stitches on long edges of Strips as you work. Rnd 1: With right side facing, join Ecru with sc in first st on Strip at top right corner (see Joining With Sc), sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in each of next 3 Strips, (ch 2, 3 sc in each of next 4 Strips) 3 times, hdc in first sc to form last ch-2 sp: 48 sc and 4 ch-2 sps. Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, dc in each sc across to next corner ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch-2 sp; repeat from 2 times more, dc in each sc across; join with slip st to first dc, finish off: 64 dc and 4 ch-2 sps. ASSEMBLY With Ecru, using Placement Diagram as a guide, and working through inside loops, whipstitch Squares together (Fig. 6b), beginning in second ch of first corner ch-2 and ending in first ch of next corner ch-2. PLACEMENT DIAGRAM Point A Key A - Pink B - Blue C - Green SQUARE Note: Each Square consists fo 8 Littice Strips - 4 Ecru and 4 of Pink, Blue or Green. With right sides facing, using photo as a guide for placement, and using safety pins to hold Strips in place, weave Lattice Strips together to form Square. 2

JOINING WITH SC When instructed to join with sc, begin with a slip knot on hook. Insert hook in stitch or space indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through both loops on hook. Before beginning your project, make the sample swatch given in the individual instructions in the yarn and hook specified. After completing the swatch, measure it, counting your stitches and rows or rounds carefully. If your swatch is larger or smaller than specified, make another, changing hook size to get the correct gauge. Keep trying until you find the size hook that will give you the specified gauge. 4
