Sizes G/6 (4 mm) and H/8 (5 mm) crochet hooks or size needed for gauge. Gauge Basic Motif = 3¾ ins [9.5 cm] square with size G/6 hook. Basic Motif = 2½ ins [6 cm] square with size H/8 hook. Girl s Headscarf 16 sts and 7 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat with size H/8 hook. Doll s Headscarf 16 sts and 10 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat with size H/8 hook. Poncho Set 11

2 Instructions Motif 1: A = Blue, B = Lime, C = Pink. Motif 2: A = Peach, B = Blue, C = Yellow. Motif 3: A = Blue, B = Lime, C = Peach. Motif 4: A = Yellow, B = Blue, C = Lime. Motif 5: A = Blue, B = Pink, C = Lime. Motif 6: A = Blue, B = Yellow, C = Pink. Motif 7: A = Lime, B = Blue, C = Yellow. Motif 8: A = Yellow, B = Blue, C = Peach. Basic Motif: With A and size G/6 hook, ch 5. Join with ss to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3. 2 dc in ring. (Ch 2. 3 dc in ring) 3 times. Ch 2. Ss in top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Join B with ss to any ch- 2 sp. (See page 16). Neck Edging: 1st rnd: With size G/6 hook and RS of work facing, join Yellow with ss at right shoulder seam. Ch 1. Work 1 rnd sc evenly around neck edge working sc3tog in corners as follows: Draw up a loop in each of next 3 corner sc. Yoh and draw through 4 loops on hook. Break Yellow. Join Pink. Ss to first sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around working sc3tog in corners as before. Break Pink. Join Blue. Ss to first sc. 3rd rnd: As 2nd rnd. 4th rnd: Ch 4. *Miss 1 sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Rep from * around, working dc3tog in corners as follows: (Yoh and draw up a loop in next corner st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook. 3 Lower Edging: 1st rnd: With size G/6 hook and RS of work facing, join Yellow with ss to lower edge of right shoulder seam. Ch 1. Work 1 rnd sc evenly around lower edge working 3 sc in corners. Break Yellow. Join Pink. Ss to first sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around working 3 sc in corners. Break Pink. Join Blue. Ss to first sc. 3rd rnd: As 2nd rnd. Ss to first sc. Fringe: Cut lengths of Blue, 8 ins [20.5 cm] long. Taking 3 strands tog, knot into fringe around lower edge of Poncho. Trim fringe evenly. Cord: Cut 2 strands of Blue, each 8½ feet [2.5 m] long. With both strands tog hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves tog. Adjust length if desired. Weave Cord through 4th rnd of Neck edging. Sew Tassel to each end of Cord. Tassel: (Make 2). Cut a piece of cardboard 4 ins [10 cm] wide. Wind Blue yarn around cardboard 40 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops 1 inch [2.5 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Girl s Headscarf With Pink and size H/8 hook, ch 5. Join with ss to form ring. 1st row: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2). 3 dc in ring. Ch 2. 3 dc in ring. Ch 2. 1 dc in ring, changing to Lime at end of dc. Turn. 2nd row: Ch 5. 3 dc in first ch-2 sp. Trim fringe evenly. Cord: Cut a length of Blue 100 ins [254 cm] long. Fold yarn in half and work as given for Cord of Girl s Poncho. Lace cord through 3rd rnd of Neck Edge as illustrated.
