Add this brightly colored shawl to your wardrobe, add some color to your life. Materials: Yarn: Bernat Satin (120 g/4.2 oz; 230 m/251 yds) #00432 (Flamingo) 3 balls Crochet Hook: Size 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. Gauge: 7 sps and 6 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat. Measurements: Approx 57 ins [144.5 cm] wide x 31 ins [78.5 cm] deep. Instructions: Note: sp(s) = space(s). Pattern is calculated in spaces throughout. Ch st row: (WS). 1 dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc and ch-1 sp). *Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 dc in next ch. Rep from * across. 99 sps. Turn. 2nd row: Ch 4. Miss first ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc. MATERIALS Bernat Satin (100 g/3.5 oz; 149 m/163 yds) 2 balls each of: A: #04013 Mocha B: #04018 Buff C: #04521 Amber D: #04435 Cameo E: #04531 Rouge Crochet Hook: size 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) or size needed to obtain gauge. MEASUREMENTS Approx 24 x 70 ins [61 x 178 cm]. GAUGE 13 sc and 14 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] Stripe Pat: Work 2 rows of each color in following sequence: A, B, C, A, D, E. These 12 rows form Stripe Pat. INSTRUCTIONS Note: Shawl is worked widthwise. With A, ch st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 226 sc. Turn. 2nd and alt rows: Ch 2 (does not count as st). 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Join B. Turn. First 2 rows of Stripe Pat are completed. 3rd row: With B, ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 3 hdc. *(Pulling long loop, 1 sc in next foundation ch two rows below long sc made) twice. 1 sc in each of next 2 hdc. Rep from * to last 3 hdc. 1 sc in each of last 3 hdc. Turn. 5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first hdc. *Long sc in each of next 2 hdc two rows below. 1 sc in each of next 2 hdc. Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep 5th to 8th rows for pat until work from beg measures approx 24 ins [61 cm], ending with a WS row. Fasten off. Attach yarn with a sl st to a picot along border leaving a long enough tail to weave through the chain sts and into the ball, ch12, holding the chain sts in front of the hook sc 8x into 2nd ch from hook, sc 2x into 1st sc made, sc 2x into next st 7x (16sts), continue to work in spiral rounds and sc 30x, stuff with thread. *sc2tog, sc into next st * rep until ball is closed. Pattern Instructions: FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Shawl measures approximately 61"/155 cm wide x 31"/78.5 cm long, including edging GAUGE Rounds 1 5 of square = 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"/9 x 9 cm; 1 square = 8 x 8"/20.5 x 20.5 cm. STITCHES USED Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (slip st), treble crochet (tr) 10

Sew neighboring sides of squares together, beginning and ending at a corner treble stitch, and stitching through one loop of each stitch only. Note: The numbers on the assembly diagram provide a recommended order of assembly. Edging 1. With RS facing, join B with slip st in any dc before a ch-sp along edge of shawl. 2. Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as tr, ch 1), work [1 dc in space between sts, ch 1] twice, work [dc, ch 1, tr] in turning ch (inc), turn 5 sts/4 ch-1 spaces. 4. Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as tr ch-1), [dc, ch 1, dc] in first ch-1 space (inc), ch 1, * dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * to turning ch, work [dc, ch 1, tr] in turning ch (inc), turn 7 sts/6 ch-1 spaces. Materials: Crochet hook: US size K/10.5 (6.5mm); tapestry needle (tn) Caron International s Feathers (65% acrylic / 35% nylon; 1.75oz / 50g, 70yd / 64m): 8 skeins #0009 Sandpiper Instructions: GAUGE In pattern st, 5 [dc, ch 1] and 5 rows = 4"/10 cm Pattern stitch is very flexible; Gauge is not crucial for this project. 5. Repeat Row 3, increasing 2 sts each row until there are 83 sts/82 ch-1 spaces; do not break yarn, turn. SHELL EDGING Continuing along upper edge, ch 1, work 1 sc in first ch-1 space, * 3 dc in next ch-1 space, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to turning ch, end 1 sc in turning ch; do NOT break yarn, do NOT turn. FRINGE Ch 15, sc in same space as last sc (turning ch); continuing along side edge, * ch 15, sc in next space; repeat from * around, working [ch 15, sc in beginning ring] twice to turn the corner; join with a sl st to first sc of Shell edging. Three different crochet flowers adorn this lovely crochet shawl. Yarn: Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, 315 yds/288 m skein): 24 oz (4 skeins) Shown in: #9913 Lt. Country Blue Hook: One size US H-8 (5mm), or size to obtain gauge Yarn needle FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: approximately 76"/193cm across upper edge x 38"/96.5cm long, excluding fringe GAUGE: In Mesh st, 8 mesh sts (dc, ch) and 8 rows = 4"/10cm. Gauge is not critical for this project. STITCHES USED Chain (ch): Begin by making a slip knot on your hook. * Wrap the yarn around the hook (yarn over) and pull up a loop, [draw the yarn through the loop on the hook to form the first chain]. Repeat from * for number of chains required. Note: The loop on the hook is not included when counting the number of chains. Double Crochet (dc): Yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, [yarn over and draw through two loops on hook] twice. Half Double Crochet (hdc): Yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook. 14

Row 2: Decrease 1 mesh st at each side as follows: Slip st in first ch-1 space and in the next dc, ch 4 (counts as first mesh st), * dc in next dc, ch 1; repeat from * across to last mesh st, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked, turn 2 mesh sts decreased; 119 mesh sts remain after Row 2. Round 2: In ch-6 space work [ch 4, 3 tr, ch 4, slip st), * slip st in next ch-6 space, work [ch 4, 3 tr, ch 4, slip st) in same space; repeat from * around 8 petals. Fasten off. Flower 3 Chain 4; join with a slip st to form ring. Round 1: Ch 7 (counts as sc, ch 6), sc in ring, work [ch 6, sc in ring] 5 times, join with a slip st to first ch of beginning ch 6 ch-6 spaces. Work remaining rounds without joining at the end of each round. Round 2: Slip st in each of the next 3 ch, work [ch 4, sc in next ch-6 space] 6 times 6 ch-4 spaces. Round 3: Work [ch 4, 2 sc in next ch-4 space, sc in next sc) 6 times. FINISHING Block pieces lightly. Attach the Flowers to Shawl in groups of 4, one group on each corner area of shawl or as desired. Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Fringe Cut strands 12" long. Holding 3 strands together, fold fringe in half. Using crochet hook, * insert hook from WS to RS into first st at upper corner, pull through loop, insert ends into loop and pull tight against edge; repeat from *, working a fringe approx every 1/2" along the 2 sides of Shawl; leave upper edge without fringe. Round 4: Work [ch 4, 2 sc in next ch-4 space, sc in each of the next 2 sc, skip 1 sc] 6 times. Round 5: Work [ch 4, 2 sc in next ch-4 space, sc in each of the next 3 sc, skip 1 sc] 6 times.
