Last 3 chs count as dc on Row 1. Work in pattern as for bottom section through Row 12. Each row will have 27 sts. Fasten off. Lightly steam block on WS. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, use a smaller size hook; if more stitches and rows, use a larger size hook. NOTES 1. When you work fpdc, tilt the fabric slightly away from you to make it easier to go behind the post and come out to the front again. 2. To change colors or start a new skein, work last st of current skein to last yarn over. Yarn over with new skein and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new skein. 3. When starting a new color, do not cut first color unless instructed to do so. STITCH EXPLANATIONS Front post double crochet (fpdc) Yo, insert hook from right to left around the post of the stitch indicated in pattern. The hook should start and end at the front of the work. Sc in each st across. Change to A when 2 lps remain in the final st of row. Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st. Fpdc around corresponding fpdc from 2 rows below. Sk st on current row behind dc just made. *Sc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc around corresponding fpdc from 2 rows below, sk st on current row behind fpdc just made. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. Sc in final st. Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. Change to B when 2 lps remain in the final st of row. Rows 7-26: Repeat Rows 4 and 5 ten times, changing color every 2 rows to remain in pattern. Change to B when 2 lps remain in the final st of Row 26. Cut A, leaving 4-inch tail. (There should be 2 sc next to each other at the end of the row.) Row 28: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st, ch 1, sk next st, sc under next ch-sp. *Ch 1, sk next st, sc under next ch-sp. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. Sc in final st. (There should be 2 sc next to each other at the end of the row.) Rows 29-64: Repeat Row 28. Change to A when 2 lps remain in the final st of Row 64. Cut B, leaving 4-inch tail. NOTE: Change back to smaller hook. Top Section Row 65: Ch 3, turn. Dc at base of chs. *Ch 1, dc2tog inserting hook into same sp as previous dc for first leg and into next ch-sp for second leg. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. Dc in final st. Change to B when 2 sts remain in final st of row. Cut A, leaving 4-inch tail. Row 66: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st. *Ch 1, sk dc2tog, sc under next ch-sp. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. Working final sc in top of that st. (There should be 2 sc next to each other at the end of the row.) Change to A when 2 lps remain in the final st of row. Row 67: Ch 4, turn. Dc2tog inserting hook into first st (at base of chs) for first leg and into next ch-sp for second leg. *Ch 1. Dc2tog inserting hook into same sp as previous st for first leg and into next ch-sp for second leg. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. Dc in final st. Change to B when 2 lps remain in the final st of row. Row 68: Ch1, turn. Sc in first st. *Ch 1, sk dc2tog, sc under next ch-sp. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains, working final sc in sp in top of 3 rd ch on previous row. (There should be 2 sc next to each other at the end of the row.) Change to A when 2 lps remain in final st of row. Rows 69-70: Repeat Rows Change to A at end of Row 70. Final Row: Ch 1, turn, sc in each across. Do not cut yarn. Remove hook, insert stitch marker to keep stitches from pulling out. With tapestry needle, weave in ends. EDGING Remove stitch marker and re-insert hook. Work 1 additional sc in final stitch of Row 70. Turn 90 degrees with RS still facing you; sc evenly down short side of wrap. Fasten off. With RS facing, rejoin yarn at bottom of other short side of wrap. Ch 1, sc evenly up side. Join to first st on Row 70 with sl st. Fasten off. FINISHING With tapestry needle, weave in remaining ends. Lightly steam block on WS if desired.
