FINISHED SIZE: 14" MATERIALS Bear: Worsted Weight Yarn: Tan - 3 ounces, (90 grams, 170 yards) Black - small amount (nose) Clothing: Sport Weight Yarn: Blue - 1½ ounces, (40 grams, 150 yards) Yellow - 1 ounce, (30 grams, 100 yards) Straight knitting needles, sizes 3 (3.25 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm) or sizes needed for gauge Markers Stitch holders mm lock-in animal eyes - 2 ½" buttons - 2 Yarn needle Sewing needle and thread Polyester fiberfill STITCH GUIDE KNIT 2 TOGETHER (abbreviated K2 tog) Insert the right needle into the front of the first two stitches on the left needle as if to knit (Fig. 1), then knit them together. Fig. 1 PURL 2 TOGETHER (abbreviated P2 tog) Insert the right needle into the front of the first two stitches on the left needle as if to purl (Fig. 2), then purl them together. Fig. 2 SLIP, SLIP, KNIT (abbreviated SSK) With yarn in back of work, separately slip two stitches as if to knit (Fig. 3a). 3 ADDING NEW STITCHES Insert right needle into stitch as if to knit, yarn over and pull loop through (Fig. 4a), insert left needle into loop just worked from front to back and slip onto left needle (Fig. 4b). Repeat for required number of stitches. Fig. 4a PICKING UP STITCHES When instructed to pick up stitches, insert the needle from the front to the back under two strands at the edge of the worked piece (Fig. 5). Wrap the yarn around the needle as if to knit, then bring the needle with the yarn back through the stitch to the right side, resulting in a stitch on the needle. Repeat this along the edge, picking up the required number of stitches. A crochet hook may be helpful pulling yarn through. Row 1 (Joining row): Knit across both Legs with first ball of yarn; cut yarn on unused ball: 40 sts. Rows 2-20: Knit across. Row 21: K8, K2 tog, place marker, SSK, K16, K2 tog, place marker, SSK, K8: 36 sts. Rows 22-24: Knit across. Row 25: H Knit across to within 2 sts of next marker, K2 tog, SSK; repeat from H once more, knit across: 32 sts. Rows 26-37: Repeat Rows 22-25, 3 times: 20 sts. Rows 38-42: Knit across. HEAD Row 1: K4, increase twice, K3, increase, place marker for nose, increase, K3, increase twice, knit across: 26 sts. Row 3: (Knit across to within one st of next marker, increase twice) 3 times, knit across: 32 sts. Row 4: Knit across. Rows 5-10: Repeat Rows 3 and 4, 3 times: 50 sts. Row 11: Knit across to within 2 sts of second marker, K2 tog, SSK, knit across: 48 sts. Row 12: Knit across. Rows 13-20: Repeat Rows 11 and 12, 4 times: 40 sts. Row 21: Knit across to within 2 sts of first marker, K2 tog, SSK, removing marker for nose, knit across to within 2 sts of last marker, K2 tog, SSK, knit across: 36 sts. Row 22: Knit across. ASSEMBLY Weave yarn end through cast on sts on Leg and gather tightly; sew Leg seam. Stuff Leg with polyester fiberfill. Flatten Leg at Joining Row with seam to inside. Working through both thicknesses, sew across Joining Row. Repeat for second Leg. Sew back seam on Body and halfway up back of Head. Using photo as a guide for placement, attach lock-in eyes on face, following directions on package. (Note: Not recommended on gifts for children under the age of 3.) Stuff Body and Head with polyester fiberfill, shaping muzzle and Head area while stuffing. Sew remaining seam at back and top of Head, stuffing with polyester fiberfill before closing. Weave yarn end through cast on sts on Arm and gather tightly; sew Arm seam. Stuff Arm with polyester fiberfill. Sew Arm to Body. Repeat for second Arm. Sew end of rows of Ear together for back seam; then sew top seam. Sew Ear to top of Head. Repeat for second Ear. Using Black, embroider nose. OVERALLS BIB With small size needles and Blue, cast on 20 sts loosely. Rows 1-6: (K1, P1) across. Row 7: Increase, (P1, K1) across to last st, increase: 22 sts. Row 8: (P1, K1) across. Row 9: Increase, (K1, P1) across to last st, increase: 24 sts. Row 10: (K1, P1) across. WAISTBAND Rows 1 and 2: Add on 12 sts loosely; (K1, P1) across: 48 sts. Rows 3-6: (K1, P1) across. Row 1 (Increase row): (K2, increase) across: 64 sts. Rows 2-18: Beginning by working a purl row, work in Stockinette St (purl one row, knit one row). Row 19: K1, increase, K29, increase twice, K29, increase, K1: 68 sts. Row 20: Purl across. Row 21: K1, increase, K31, increase twice, K31, increase, K1: 72 sts. Row 22: Purl across. RIGHT LEG Row 1: Add on 2 sts; K38, turn; add on 2 sts, slip remaining 36 sts onto st holder: 40 sts. Rows 2-18: Work even in Stockinette St. Row 19 (Decrease row): (K2, K2 tog) across: 30 sts. CUFF Bind off all sts loosely in ribbing. LEFT LEG Row 1: Slip sts from st holder onto large size needle; cast on 2 sts, knit across, add on 2 sts: 40 sts. Complete same as Right Leg. Sew Leg seams and back seam. LEFT STRAP With right side facing, Blue, and using small size needles, skip 2 sts from back seam, pick up 5 sts. Row 1: P1, (K1, P1) twice. Row 2: K1, (P1, K1) twice. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until Strap measures approximately 3", ending by working a wrong side row. Buttonhole Row: K1, P1, YO, P2 tog, K1. Next Row (Decrease row): K2 tog, P1, K2 tog: 3 sts. 5 RIGHT STRAP With right side facing, Blue, and using small size needles, beginning in seventh st to right of back seam, pick up 5 sts. Work same as Left Strap. Sew buttons to Bib. PULLOVER NECK RIBBING With small size needles and Yellow, cast on 42 sts loosely. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 4 rows. RAGLAN SHAPING Row 1: K5, increase, place marker, increase, H K8, increase, place marker, increase; repeat from H 2 times more, K5: 50 sts. Row 2: Purl across. Row 3: H Knit across to within one st of marker, increase twice; repeat from H 3 times more, knit across: 58 sts. Row 4: Purl across. Rows 5-20: Repeat Rows 3 and 4, 8 times: 122 sts. Row 21 (Dividing row): Slip first 16 sts onto st holder for right back; do not cut yarn, with separate yarn, knit across next 30 sts (Right Sleeve), slip next 30 sts onto st holder for front, slip next 30 sts onto st holder for Left Sleeve, slip next 16 sts onto st holder for left back: 30 sts. RIGHT SLEEVE Work even in Stockinette St for 3 rows. Bind off all sts loosely in established ribbing. LEFT SLEEVE Row 1: Slip sts from Left Sleeve st holder onto large size needle, knit across: 30 sts. Work same as Right Sleeve. Row 1: Slip sts from left back, front and right back st holders onto large size needle, knit across: 62 sts. Work even in Stockinette St for 8 rows. Bind off all sts loosely in established ribbing. Sew back and Sleeve seams. BERET BAND With small size needles and Blue, cast on 60 sts loosely. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 4 rows. CROWN Row 1: (K1, increase) across: 90 sts. Rows 2-8: Work even in Stockinette St. Row 9: (K7, K2 tog) across: 80 sts. Row 10 AND ALL WRONG SIDE ROWS: Purl across. Row 11: (K6, K2 tog) across: 70 sts. Row 13: (K5, K2 tog) across: 60 sts. Row 15: (K4, K2 tog) across: 50 sts. Row 17: (K3, K2 tog) across: 40 sts. Row 19: (K2, K2 tog) across: 30 sts. Row 21: (K1, K2 tog) across: 20 sts. Row 23: K2 tog across: 10 sts. Row 24: P2 tog 5 times: 5 sts. Thread yarn needle with end and weave through remaining sts; gather tightly and secure. Sew back seam.
