1 A Trio of Pretty Baby Hats By FlossiePotts Three pretty hats for baby girls. A granny square hat with flower trim, a close stitch hat with rosebud trim and a pink and white stripe with flower trim. Three separate patterns. Hat 1; Granny with Flower Trim Requirements For newborn to 3 months ½ ball 4ply or Fingering yarn Size 4 crochet hook For 3 to 6 months ½ Ball soft 8ply yarn

2 Size 5 crochet hook You can make these hats larger or smaller by doing more or less non increasing rounds. Chain 3 and join to first ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Chn3, (counts as dc, here and throughout) 2dc, chn 1 into ring (3dc, chn 1) 3 times and join with a s/s to top of chain 3.. Rnd 2: Ss yarn into the 1chn space just made on the last round, chn 3, 2dc into this space, ( 3dc 1ch 3dc into 1chn space) 3times, 3dc 1ch into the first 1chn space to complete the group, ss to the top of first chn 3. Rnd 3: Ss yarn into the 1chn space, 3ch into space. 3dc, 1ch, 3dc after the next 3dc group, (this is not a 1chn space),3dc into nxt 1chn space,( 3dc, 1chn 3dc after the nxt 3dc group, 3dc into next ch1 space) twice more, 3dc 1ch 3dc after next 3dc group, 2dc into the first 1chn space and join to first 3chn. Rnd4: ss into space, 3chn. 3dc into every 3dc group and 3dc chn1 3dc into each 1chn space until first 3 chn, 2dc and ss to chn 3. Rnd 5; Ss into space, chn 3, 3dc into 3dc group around (including 1chn spaces) 2dc in last space and join to 3chn. Rnds 6 to 8: Repeats round 5 Rnd9: Sc all around. Rnds 10 to 13: Sc all around in a spiral in back loops only. Try not to do this too tightly or the brim will not have enough stretch. Flower Trim Chn 7 and join into a ring, 7chn and s/s into second chn, work 7 sc into loop formed and s/s to base, work in this way until all stitches in ring are used. Make a ring out of contrast colour, with 4 chain and 8 sc in ring. Finishing. Weave in ends and sew on flower and flower centre. Hat 2; Rosebud Hat Newborn to 3 months ¼ ball 4ply or fingering yarn Small amount contrast colour

3 Scrap amount green yarn or thread With main colour chain 3 and join with ss to form ring Rnd1: Chn 2, hdc 9 times into ring and join into top ch2 Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2hdc in each stitch around and join into top of ch 2 Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt st, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt st, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join. Rnd 4: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 2sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 2 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in each stitch without increasing Rnd 6: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 3 sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 3 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join. Rnd 7: Ch 2, 1hdc in each stitch around without increasing. Join. Rnd 8: Repeat Rnd 7 Rnd 9: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 4 sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 4 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around. Rnds 10 & 11: Ch 1, sc in each st around.join. With contrast colour, reverse sc in each stitch around brim (optional) Rosebuds With a darning needle threaded with contrast colour. Insert needle for 1 st rosebud about a finger width from centre back, wrap thread around shaft of needle 6 times, holding the loops between three fingers at the back and thumb at front, carefully pull the thread through the loops and push the grub down to the base of the stitch. Insert the need again through the fabric, one round up from the first insertion and anchor grub. Repeat for other grub, inserting needle for the first step in same place as first insertion but second insertion a little way from the top of the 1 st grub. Repeat at finger width intervals all around. Thread the needle with any green yarn or thread and make two small stitches each side of the rosebud grubs. They do not have to be perfect, the green will give the suggestion of a leaf. Sew in ends.

4 Striped Hat with Flower 3 to 6 months Requirements ½ ball soft 8ply yarn main colour Small amount contrast colour Size 5mm crochet hook Chain 3 and join with ss Rnd1: Chn 2, hdc 9 times into ring and join into top ch2 Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2hdc in each stitch around and join into top of ch 2 Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt st, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt st, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join. Rnd 4: Using contrast colour, slip stitch in FLO, each stitch around in each stitch around. (use a larger hook if you cannot slip stitch loosely) Rnd 5: Ch 2, Working into free loop of each hdc of rnd 3 and ignoring the slip stitch rnd, (applies to each round after slip stitch rounds, throughout) 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 2sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 2 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc in each stitch without increasing. Join Rnd 6: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 3 sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 3 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around and join. Rnd 7: With contrast colour repeat round 4 Rnd 8: Ch 2, 1hdc in each stitch around without increasing. Join. Rnd 9: Repeat Rnd 8 Rnd 10: Repeat slip stitch round 7 Rnd 11: Ch 2, 1hdc same place, 1hdc nxt 4 sts, 2hdc nxt st, 1hdc nxt 4 sts, 2hdc nxt st, all around. Rnd 12 : Repeat round 8 Rnd 13: Repeat round 4 Rnd 14& 15 : Ch 1, sc in each stitch BLO, all around. join

5 Rnd 16: With contrast colour chn 1, sc in each st around. Slip stitch through both loops all around with contrast colour, weave in ends. Flower With contrast colour chn 3. Work 3 dc 1 ch, 4 times and join. With main colour Work 1sc, 1 hdc, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc into each 1chn space. With contrast colour, slip st BLO into each st around and slip stitch to first slip stitch. Sew on side of hat.
