It helps prevent the pieces from shifting, and allows you to get a more precise placement. Keep your stitches tigh to prevent stuffing from showing through. To turn this into an ornament I attached a hang loop using Transparent Polyester Thread. However, you may also use any other piece of yarn or thread. If you don t have Crochet Thread, use any other light weight yarn, or attach some beads for extra sparkle. The hook in the photos is by Harper Baby Shop

3 02 / PATTERN CACTUS Using green color, each sphere is worked in the round as a spiral. DO NOT join between rounds. Remember to stuff each part before the opening gets too small, or just stuff as you go. I find that pieces sit better on top of one another when I leave each shape open on the bottom. [photo 1] LARGE SPHERE 1. MR, SC 6 into the ring -- 6sts TINY SPHERE 1. MR, SC 3 into the ring -- 3sts 2. {INC} rep 6 times -- 6sts 3. SC sts 4. {SC 2TOG, SC 2} rep 2 times -- 6sts Cut off yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff as much as you can - this one might be little tricky, since it s so small, just do your best! 2. {INC} rep 6 times -- 12sts 3. {INC, SC} rep 6 times -- 18sts 4. {INC, SC 2} rep 6 times -- 24sts 5-9. SC sts 10. {SC 2TOG, SC 2} rep 6 times -- 18sts 11. {SC 2TOG, SC} rep 6 times -- 12sts 12. {SC 2TOG} rep 6 times -- 6sts Cut off yarn and weave in ends. 4 03 / PATTERN CONE Using yellow color, the cone is worked in the round as a spiral. DO NOT join between rounds. 1. MR, SC 4 into the ring -- 4sts 2. {2SC INC, SC} rep 2 times -- 6sts 3. SC sts 4. {2SC INC, SC 2} rep 2 times -- 8sts 5. SC sts 6. {2SC INC, SC 3} rep 2 times -- 10sts photo 3 7. SC in each stitch -- 10sts 8. {2SC INC, SC 4} rep 2 times -- 12sts 9. SC sts 10. {2SC INC, SC 5} rep 2 times -- 14sts For next round work only into BACK LOOPS of each stitch. [photo 3] 11. BLO - {2HDC INC, 6 HDC} rep 2 times -- 16sts SLST to first HDC in round 11 [photo 4] Cut tail leaving approx 10 for sewing. Lightly stuff the bottom of the cone, up to the last row of SC. Do not overstuff, but make sure it s filled enough to hold the cone shape. Leave the top of the cone unfilled so the cactus has room to sit inside. photo 4

5 04 / PATTERN ASSEMBLY STEP 1: Attach the Flower to the Tiny Sphere, using tail end of the flower STEP 2: Attach Tiny and Medium spheres together, then attach them to the Large Sphere. Use pins to hold each piece in place as you are sewing. It prevents the pieces from shifting [photo 6] STEP 3: Using white crochet thread or yarn, and a needle, embroider some white spots. I prefer to add this detail after I ve attached all the cactus pieces together. However, you may also do this step before or after Step 1 [photo 7] photo 6 STEP 4: Place the cactus inside the cone, secure with pins and sew in place using the extra tail from the cone [photo 7] STEP 5: Attach a piece of thread or yarn to create a hang loop. I prefer my ornament loops to be as close to invisible as possible, so I used a Transparent Polyester Thread, which is why it s very hard to see in the photo (it s there, if you look close enough at the image on the cover) photo 5 photo 7
