1 Pot Belly Babies Troll Set Pattern set includes patterns for troll, bib and mopsie. When crocheted with yarns and hook sizes specified, troll measures 16 inches standing height, 17 inches around belly; bib measures 3 inches L x 3 ¼ inches W; mopsie measures 5 inches H x 5 inches L. These patterns are crocheted in the amigurumi style of continuous rounds beginning from a double yarn loop. Marking the last stitch of rounds with a small length of yarn or a safety pin will help you to keep track. Much enjoyment to you in creating this pot belly baby. 1

Rnd 2: *1 sc into next sc, 2 sc inc* 6 times (18 sc) Rnd 3: *1 sc into next sc, 2 sc inc* 9 times (27 sc) Rnd 4: *1 sc into next 8 sc, 2 sc inc* 3 times, ch 1, turn (30 sc) Rnd 5: 24 sc, ch 1, turn Rnd 6: *1 sc into next 5 sc, 2 sc inc* 3 times; 1 sc into next 6 sc (27 sc) Work 9 sc across top, changing to accent yarn color on last sc (leave long enough white yarn end to weave around perimeter of backside of bib later) Rnd 7: 27 sc around Work 10 sc across top, chain 30, tie off leaving a long enough yarn length to weave end into the back loop of 4 or 5 chains to hide end. Attach yarn with slip stitch on last stitch of the other end of the flat side, work 30 chains, tie off, leaving a long enough yarn length to weave into 4 or 5 chains. Weave in all ends, with the long off white yarn length, weave in around white perimeter of bib to give it strength and stop any curling, weave in the accent color ends across back of flat top to give that a little extra stiffness. Press flat between hands for a minute or two 7
8 if necessary to block. Weave in chain ends down into the back loops of 4 or 5 chains, snip and pull so end is hidden in chain. Mopsie Pompom hair Use firm, worsted weight white yarn Wrap white yarn loosely 60 times around a 14 inch piece of cardboard; with a 16 inch length of white yarn lying on work surface, slip yarn off cardboard and lay longwise across center of yarn length, pull yarn very tightly and tie around middle of yarn bundle, flip over and tie again, knot securely (lay these yarn ends outward, you ll use these two to sew the hair to the back of the head area). Slip scissors between loop ends of yarn bundle and cut yarn. Holding the two long strands of yarn, stand bundle on end (so the direction of the yarn tied around the middle is going side to side and not up and down) and let yarn strands fall over the center. Set it on the body, parting the strands on the bottom so they are evenly lying along the sides of the body, sew it to body using the longer stands and yarn needle, push needle through body and back up through center of yarn bundle, bring needle out and over the side of bundle center and back through body, repeat a couple of times, leaving yarn end inside body. Repeat with other yarn length, when finished sewing, tie lengths together inside firmly and trim. Nose Use F hook and pink yarn Ch 2 Into 2 nd ch from hook, work 2 sc, leaving a 6 or 8 inch length, snip yarn and pull end through to close, sew nose to face with yarn length, forming into a triangle with tip pointing upwards, pull in both yarn ends to inside, tack or tie off and trim. 8
9 Mouth Use F hook and dark yarn Leaving a 6 inch length on ch end, ch 3, snip yarn leaving an 8 inch length, pull through to close, lay chain where you d like the mouth to be, with yarn needle, pull short yarn length through to inside to hold in place, thread longer end and pull to inside of face and back out through ch on end, sew in and out over chain stitches, pull yarn to inside on last ch, tie together with shorter end, trim. Legs (make 4) Use G hook and firm white yarn Rnd 2: 12 sc Rnd 3: 1 sc into next 2 sc, *2 sc dec* 4 times, 1 sc into next 2 sc (8 sc) Rnds 4-5: 8 sc Tie off, leaving long enough yarn length to sew leg to body later, stuff feet/legs with small amount of fiberfill before sewing to body. Head/Body Use G hook and firm white yarn Rnd 2: 1 sc into next sc, 2 sc inc* 6 times (18 sc) Rnd 3: *1 sc into next 2 sc, 2 sc inc* 6 times (24 sc) Rnd 4: *1 sc into next 2 sc, 2 sc inc* 8 times (32 sc) Rnds 5-21: 32 sc (17 rounds) (Sew on 9 mm round button eyes, nose and mouth after round 5 Sew on front legs after round 12 Sew on back legs and pompom hair after round 17) Rnd 22: *1 sc into next 2 sc, 2 sc dec* 8 times (24 sc) Rnd 23: *1 sc into next 2 sc, 2 sc dec* 6 times (18 sc) Stuff head/body firmly, adding small amounts of stuffing as you close Rnd 24: 1 sc into next sc, 2 sc dec* 6 times (12 sc) Rnds 25-26: *2 sc dec* 8 times to close, with yarn needle push yarn through closing round and back out a couple rounds away, pull taut and snip close to body to keep yarn end inside. Trim yarn hair around face and legs to desired length. 9
10 Troll Assembly Stuff hands/arms and pin to either side of body just below neck opening with thumbs pointing upwards, sew each on along the top stitches of the last round of arms. Stuff feet/legs and pin to body on either side of bottom area, spaced apart so that outer area of legs line up with the sides of the body and toes pointing outward, sew each on. Stuff body, rounding out belly, but not so tightly that the stitches stretch out and the stuffing shows through, stuff neck area so it is firm enough to keep head up. Pin on head, centering face with body, sew on, keeping enough neck width around base of head (and adding small amounts of stuffing as you go, if necessary) so head doesn't flop over. Tie on bib and give baby her mopsie. This is an original Craft Ingénue pattern, offered free and with no warranties or guarantees.
