1 Frankie s Knitted Stuff Jelly Mould Blanket The raised circles in this blanket look just like jelly moulds. What more could you want? My blanket is about cm (39 29") and was made with Cygnet Pure Merino DK (104m / 50g) and a 4.5mm crochet hook. I used 100g of each of six colours and 200g of cream (shade 2195). 2 Before you start This pattern uses British crochet terms: dc = US sc htr = US hdc tr = US dc It also features puff stitches which are worked like this: *Wrap the yarn round the hook, insert the hook through the stitch and pull a loop through, repeat from * twice more (7 loops on the hook), wrap the yarn round the hook again and pull through all the loops. Finish with 1ch to tighten the stitch. The Jelly Moulds Make 4ch and join with a ss to make a ring. Round 1: 1ch, 7dc into ring, join with ss to first dc (8sts). Round 2: 1ch, make a puff in the same place and in every st, join with ss to the space at the side of the first puff (8 puffs). In the next round the puffs will be pushed up as stitches are worked through the back of them, putting the hook down at one side of the puff and up at the other. When working into the spaces at the side of the puffs just stick the hook in somewhere below the normal stitches, you don t have to be too precise.

3 Round 3: 1ch, dc in same place, dc through back of puff, *2dc in space before next puff, dc through back of puff, repeat from * to the end, join with ss to 1ch. Round 4: 1ch, dc in every st, join with ss to 1ch (24 sts). The next three rounds are worked in a similar way to the last three with the puffs being alternated with double crochets this time. Round 5: 1ch, make a puff in the next st, *dc, puff, repeat from * to end, join with ss to 1ch (12 puffs). Round 6: 1ch, dc in space before puff, dc through back of puff, dc in space after puff, *2dc in space before next puff, dc through back of puff, dc in space after puff, repeat from * to the end, join with ss to 1ch. Round 7: 1ch, dc in every st, join with ss to 1ch (48 sts).

4 Fasten off and darn in the ends, tightening the centre. I made 48 jelly moulds all together, eight in each colour. These are such fun to stack and play with anyone for a hat? When you get tired of playing with the jelly moulds it s time to turn them into squares by adding the cream edging. Edging the Moulds Join the cream yarn to any stitch. Round 1: 3ch, miss 1 st, dc, *3ch, miss 1, tr, 3ch, miss 1, dc, (2ch, miss 1, dc) four times, repeat from * twice more, 3ch, miss 1, tr, 3ch, miss 1, dc, (2ch, miss 1, dc) twice, 2ch, join with ss to ch space.

5 Round 2: Work into the chain spaces. 2ch, htr in same space, *3htr, 2ch, 3htr, 2htr, (2dc) twice, 2htr, rep from * twice more, 3htr, 2ch, 3htr, 2htr, (2dc) twice, join with ss to 2ch and fasten off. Joining the Squares Arrange the squares in eight rows of six squares and then crochet them together, first the horizontal joins and then the vertical. Join the yarn to the corner spaces of the pair of squares at the start of the row and work double crochet in each pair of stitches across the square. After joining the corners at the end of the square, work 1ch before beginning to join the next pair of squares. When you have worked all the horizontal joins, turn the blanket and repeat the process for the vertical joins. The corner spaces turn into little flowers once the squares are joined. I rather like the other side of the blanket too.

6 The Border First work a round in cream to even up the edges. Work a double crochet in every stitch along the sides of the squares. Where the squares meet work 2htr into the corner space, htr into the end of the join and 2htr into the next corner space. When you get to the corners of the blanket work dc, 2htr, dc into the corner space. The rest of the border is stripes, one round in each colour. Round 1: Work a treble in every stitch along the sides. Work 2tr, 1ch, 2tr into the 2 nd and 3 rd of the 4 corner sts. Round 2: Work a treble in every stitch along the sides. Work 2tr, 1ch, 2tr into the corner spaces. Rounds 3-5 are worked in exactly the same way as Round 2. The last two rounds are worked in the same colour. Round 6: Work a double crochet in every stitch along the sides. Work 3dc into the corner spaces. Round 7: Work in crab stitch (reverse double crochet) all round, including the corners.
