4 Tuesday, April 19, :00 am Registration/Continental Breakfast Venetian Foyer Sponsored by Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH 8:30 am Business Session Venetian Room Call to Order/Opening Remarks Tracie Lomax, President, Young Bankers Division, and Branch Manager, Community South, Hohenwald, TN 9:00 am Leading Your Bank through Economic and Political Turbulence: Practical Tools to Identify Opportunities and Manage Risk Thomas H. Payne, PhD, Dunagan Chair of Excellence in Banking; Professor and Chair, Department of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Political Science, The University of Tennessee at Martin, Martin, TN Today s young bankers are asked to take on more and more responsibility in these rapidly changing economic times. Regulatory change, economic uncertainty, and competitive challenges require bank leaders to become more knowledgeable, flexible, and adaptable than ever before. Attendants will learn about today s most important economic indicators and management tools to control risk and seize opportunity. To lead in these turbulent times, it is important to know which technological, regulatory, and economic changes are temporary and which are permanent. If you are called upon to grow your bank while managing risk and increasing profitability, you will not want to miss this informative and engaging presentation to help you meet the political and economic challenges of 2011 and beyond. Now more than ever, bankers and their customers must work together to manage risk and control expenses. They must do this in an environment characterized by volatile commodity and securities markets and rapidly changing government policies. This is a time of great challenge and great opportunity. Sponsored by Crowe Horwath, LLP, Brentwood, TN 10:00 am Break Venetian Foyer 10:15 am President s Report; Election of Division Vice President and Directors from Groups 2, 4, 6. & 8 Venetian Room 10:45 am Protect Your Capital at the Capitol The Young Banker s Role in Building Political Influence Venetian Room Jeff Rendel, President, Rising Above Enterprises, Corona, CA With the future of your bank in the hands of elected and appointed leaders, as a young banker, you have a duty to develop, nurture, and uphold political relationships and influence. This particular undertaking for leading companies is not about election-year politicking and favor-seeking. It s much more than writing a timely letter, inundating a lawmaker s office with calls, or adding a politician as a Facebook friend. It is about ensuring that your professional involvement is a standard feature in the capitols of both your state and our nation. The banks that play a part in the legislative and regulatory process the most hold the largest role in influencing business policy. While lobbyists serve a vital purpose, legislators listen attentively to local business managers who can make clear the effect a given law may place upon their business. You, the local banker, have influence with your lawmaker that greatly supports and strengthens the work of your industry s lobbyists. Your individual participation advances and defends your commercial well-being. Your involvement in lawmakers understanding of your bank is no longer an option it s a responsibility.
