5 Peanut Disease Concerns and Peanut Rx Five peanut disease issues and related decisions come to mind with growing peanuts: seedling disease (Aspergillus Crown Rot), leaf spot, white mold, fungicide selection, Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus, and nematodes. Rumors are that chlorothalonil and tebuconazole will be in short supply so you may want to check into that. Here is an example of the 2017 Peanut Rx. A few changes will be made for 2018 and those will be shared with you, as will all of the fungicide programs once updated ones are received. Farmer Recognition Cotton and peanut production dominates Irwin County agriculture. Please consider applying for the Georgia Peanut Achievement Club and Cotton Quality Awards. These applications are easy to fill out and we will be glad to assist you in preparing your applications. The GA Peanut Achievement Club honors farmers in the four peanut districts. There are three acre categories , , and 700 and up. A state winner will be chosen in each acre category and two district winners will be selected from each district. The Cotton Quality Award presents 12 producer awards as well as 12 gin awards. Awards are given in each of 3 cotton acreage categories within 4 regions of the state. The producer winner will be the nominee with the highest average Loan Value per pound of lint. Awards will be presented in three categories per district: Category 1 Less Than 500 acres, Category to 1,000 acres, and Category 3 Over 1,000 acres. Ag Forecast Breakfast Meeting - Please call our office if you are interested in attending this meeting Each year Irwin County Farm Bureau, Irwin County Young Farmers and Irwin County Extension sponsor a table for this event. If you are interested in attending, please let us know. This meeting gives you a good agricultural overview of the upcoming year. This meeting is in February but it is not too early to be thinking about attending.
