14 Meet Your Illinois Farm Bureau Board of Directors... Philip Nelson Illinois Farm Bureau Philip Nelson of Seneca is the 14 th of the Illinois Farm Bureau and serves as full-time executive officer. He is president of the companies that make up COUNTRY Financial, Illinois Agricultural Service Company, and the IAA Foundation. He also serves on the Coordinating Committee of GROWMARK, Inc. Prior to his election as in December 2003, Nelson served as Vice of the Illinois Farm Bureau from He was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Farm Bureau Federation in January He served as chair of the AFBF Trade Advisory Committee from Nelson and his wife, Carmen, operate a fourth-generation grain and livestock farm near Seneca. They have two sons, Kendall and Kyle, and a daughter, Rachel. They grow corn, soybeans, and alfalfa and run a cow-calf operation. Nelson has been very active in community and agricultural organizations throughout his career. Among his accomplishments, he was state FFA Star Farmer of Illinois in 1977; American Farm Bureau Federation s National Outstanding Young Farmer in 1984; of the Illinois Soybean Association from ; of LaSalle County Farm Bureau from ; Vice of the American Soybean Association from ; Chairman of AFBF s Swine Advisory Committee from 1997 to 2000; and was named Prairie Farmer Master Farmer in Nelson has served on two USDA advisory committees. He represented the interests of farmers on the first USDA Biotechnology Advisory Committee. He also has served as a member of the Federal Grain Inspection Service Advisory Committee. He is currently serving on the USDA Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Animals and Animal Products. Nelson has an Associate s Degree in Agriculture Production from Joliet College. He earned his American FFA Degree in 1978; is a 1982 graduate of the Agricultural Leaders of Tomorrow (ALOT) Program; and a 1984 graduate of the Illinois Ag Leadership Program

15 Richard L. Guebert Jr. Vice Illinois Farm Bureau Bob Gehrke District 1 Richard Guebert Jr. of Ellis Grove was elected in December 2003 as Vice of the Illinois Farm Bureau. Prior to that, he served as president of the Randolph County Farm Bureau beginning in In his capacity as Vice of the Illinois Farm Bureau, he is also Vice of the companies that make up COUNTRY Financial, Illinois Agricultural Service Company, and the IAA Foundation. He also serves as Chairman of the IFB Resolutions Committee and serves on the Coordinating Committee of GROWMARK, Inc. In January 2007, he was appointed by the to serve as Chairman of the Floodplain Study Group. Guebert has also served as Chairman of the Country/IAA Governance Committee since January Guebert and his son, Kyle, operate a farm where they grow corn, soybeans, and wheat. Guebert served as director of the Lower Kaskaskia Stakeholders, Inc. from 1999 to 2004; director of the Kaskaskia Watershed Association from 2000 to 2004; director of Gateway FS from 1990 to 2008; on the board of directors for Randolph County Farm Bureau from 1993 to 2003; vice president of Randolph County Farm Bureau from ; and president from 1996 to In 2001, he served on the IFB Co-op Task Force and is a 2001 ALOT graduate. Guebert was named a Master Farmer in 2006 by Prairie Farmer magazine. In March 2007, he accompanied Jack Lavin, Director, Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, State of Illinois, and other delegates on a trade mission to India to open a trade office in New Delhi. In June 2007, he traveled to Poland with Lt. Governor Pat Quinn on a four-city cultural exchange and trade mission that developed and enhanced the relationship between Illinois and Poland. In March 2009, Guebert was part of the farm/ business delegation to Cuba under the direction of Jack Block, former Secretary of Agriculture. Governor Quinn appointed Guebert to the Taxpayer Action Board in April 2009 and in 2012 to the Governor s Export Advisory Council. In 2011, Guebert participated in a trade mission to China with Governor Quinn and several business leaders from across the state. Guebert has a bachelor s degree in ag education with a minor in animal science from Southern Illinois University. Guebert and his wife, Nancy, reside in Ellis Grove. They are members of St. John s Lutheran Church in Chester where Guebert has served in many capacities. Bob Gehrke of Elgin in Kane County was elected to the state board of directors in 2011 to represent District 1, which includes DeKalb, Lake, Kane, and McHenry counties. He serves on the Member Services & Public Relations Committee. Gehrke operates farms in Kane and Stephenson Counties raising corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. He graduated from Central High School in Burlington in Gehrke served on the Kane County Farm Bureau Board from 1994 to He served as president from 2004 to He also served as secretary/treasurer from He was a member of the 2009 Market Study Tour to China. He has served as Conserve FS Director since Gehrke is a member of the Kane County Corn Growers Association and is an associate member of the Illinois Wheat Association. Gehrke and his wife, Beth, have two children: Wayne and Carolyn, who are also involved in the family farm. They are members of the St. John Lutheran Church in Sycamore, Ill. Gehrke serves as Chairman of Stewardship and is the Financial Secretary of the church

16 Chuck Cawley District 2 Wayne Anderson District 3 Chuck Cawley of Rochelle in Ogle County was elected to the state board of directors in 2004 to represent District 2, which includes Boone, Carroll, JoDaviess, Ogle, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties. He serves on the Finance Committee, the Budget Committee, the Gardner Chair Policy Advisory Committee, and on the COUNTRY Trust Bank Board. He also serves on the IAA and COUNTRY Governance Committees and is the interlocking member for the Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR). Cawley operates a farm in Ogle County raising corn and soybeans. Cawley served as president of the Ogle County Farm Bureau from 2001 to He is a 1996 ALOT graduate and has served on numerous GRITs teams. 25 Elizabeth Wahle Illinois Extension Agricultural Association Elizabeth Wahle has been with the University of Illinois Extension since She served as vice president and president elect before becoming president of the Illinois Extension Agricultural Association. Wahle earned her bachelor s degree in commercial horticulture at Purdue University and her master s and Ph.D. in horticulture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Wahle started her career in Extension as a commercial fruit and vegetable specialist, and continues in that role today as a horticulture educator in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties. Her program area includes all horticultural crops, but her primary focus is commercial specialty crop production. She coordinates the Illinois Horseradish Conference, the Southern and Southwestern Commercial Tree Fruit Schools, the Illinois Small Fruit and Strawberry Schools and the Southern Illinois Commercial Vegetable School. She also coordinates the Gateway Green Industry Conference. Additionally, Wahle provides production support to central Illinois grape growers through a partnership with Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association. She also sits as an advisor to the Illinois Specialty Growers Association and assists in the program coordination for the Illinois Specialty Crops, Agritourism and the Organic Conference.
