6 Biographies for Speakers, Moderators, and Panelists Speakers Plenary session Yong Guo President, NACEA Yong Guo, President, NACEA; VP and Partner of 双极资本 U.S.A. With more than 15 years of experience in Fortune 100 companies. Yong has published one book and more than 20 papers in international professional journals. Yong s book was published by Macmillan, London, UK. The book was collected by both the US and Australia Library of Congress, Harvard University Library and dozens of other universities. This book was used as a textbook or a major reference book in American, British and Hong Kong's business schools. Yong was invited to speak in international financial forums and conferences. Judith Sheft, MBA Associate Vice President Technology Development,New Jersey Institute of Technology Judith A. Sheft is the Associate Vice President Technology Development at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is responsible for managing the university s Office of Technology Development and creates programs and policies focusing on patent creation, intellectual property valuation, strategic use and protection of IP assets. She is also involved with economic development in the Newark Innovation Zone having responsibilities for management of the university s high technology business accelerator/incubator, the Enterprise Development Center, and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center. She is on the Board of Advisors to the NJIT School of Management and the NJIT Albert Dorman Honor s College Interdisiplinary Design Studio program. Since 2007 she has been a member of the NJ Israel Commission. Prior to joining NJIT, she had been a founding member of Licenz Group, an IP consulting firm that focuses on assisting companies to maximize the value of their IP portfolio. Before that she had worked as the Intellectual Property and Compliance Vice President for Agere Systems, the semiconductor subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. In that capacity she had profit and loss responsibility for Agere s patent and technology licensing business. She was involved in the allocation of 6

7 intellectual property assets during the AT&T trivestiture and is experienced in assessing patent portfolios. Ms. Sheft has provided IP guidance to many of the high technology M&A and divestiture activities at AT&T and Lucent. Ms. Sheft has extensive business development experience outside the U.S. She played a lead role in negotiating a long-term alliance between Lucent/Agere and NEC in the field of semiconductor manufacturing technology. The alliance has lasted over a decade and is a prime example of collaboration between competitors. Ms. Sheft has a BS and MS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and an MBA in International Business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of intellectual property and strategic alliances and is an active member of the Licensing Executive s Society. Dr. Zhong graduated from Nankai University (Tianjin, China) with a B.S. degree in Medical Physiology. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI), where he studied adenosine receptors in the rat brain. Dr. Zhong then conducted extensive postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) in the following areas: structure and function of serotonin and dopamine transporters (SERT, DAT); regulation of DAT by cocaine; G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling mechanisms; physiology of Regulators of G protein signaling (RGS). In 2002, Dr. Zhong joined Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corporation (Paramus, NJ), which shortly became Lundbeck Research USA (Paramus, NJ) in At Lundbeck, Dr. Zhong was Senior Research Scientist with broad responsibilities in drug discovery and development projects related to psychiatric and neurological disorders. Dr. Zhong has over 20 scientific publications on the signaling mechanisms as well as therapeutic discoveries within GPCRs, transporters and other targets. In 2010, Dr. Zhong co-founded U-Pharm Laboratories LLC. The mission of U- Pharm is to provide dedicated pharmacological and drug discovery services in the 7

8 pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Dr. Zhong is a member of many professional associations, including the Society for Neuroscience (SFN), American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), the Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP), New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), North American Chinese Entrepreneur Association (NACEA), and Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SAPA). Dr. Zhong is also an Executive Officer of NACEA. Speakers and Panelists: Mark Loeser Chief Operating Officer, Krannich Solar Mark Loeser began his career in the energy industry starting in 1980 as a reactor operator in the US Navy. Since then Mark has worked in various capacities within the energy production field such as power plant operations, environmental project management and regulatory affairs. He has experience with several top tier utilities such as American Electric Power and Exelon with the fleets of coal and nuclear power generators. Since his early years in the power industry Mark has always kept his eye on emerging technologies, energy efficiency and renewable energy. His view of the energy industry is holistic in nature, which means it all starts with education, conservation and energy efficiency and then with renewable energy generation to reduce electricity consumption from large central power stations. His view of distributed generation has grown and refined over the years to his current vocation. In 2005, Mark had the opportunity to enter the renewable energy field and since then has continually expanded his understanding of national and international markets for a variety of products available in the market today. After working with a California based integrator to develop the East Coast Solar PV market Mark had the opportunity to work with the New Jersey Clean Energy Program as Technical Director. One of the primary responsibilities was to evaluate new and emerging renewable energy technologies entering the marketplace. Most recently Mark has taken a position with Krannich Solar, Inc, a top tier PV distributor in Europe, as Chief Operating Officer of US operations with the focus on expanding the market reach of this excellent German company. Bill Wang President, American Renewable Energy Mingshe Zhu, Ph.D. Principal Scientist, Bristol-Myers Squibb Dr. Mingshe Zhu is a drug metabolism researcher in Dept of Biotransformation, Bristol- Myers Squibb, Princeton, NJ, USA, where his teams have supported lead optimization of several discovery programs, preclinical studies of over 15 drug candidates in development, 8

9 regulatory approval of Abilify and NDA submission of Dapagloflozin. Dr. Zhu received Ondetti and Cushman Innovation Award at BMS (2007). His research interests include development and application of LC/MS technology, optimization of ADME properties, metabolic activation, and regulatory drug metabolism. He completed Ph.D. training in Analytical Toxicology at SUNY at Albany, and post-doctoral fellowship in Drug Metabolism at University of Washington. He has been frequently invited to speak at conferences/workshops and teach short courses at ASMS, EAS, ACS and CPSA. Dr. Zhu co-authored over 60 research publications and co-edited two books, Drug Metabolism in Drug Design and Development and Mass Spectrometry in Drug Metabolism and Disposition. In the past several years, Dr. Zhu actively promoted drug metabolism science and technology in China and built broad connections with DMPK leaders in Chinese academic institutes, pharma and CROs. The drug metabolism book he co-edited has been translated into Chinese by prominent scholars. Dr. Zhu was invited by SFDA to organize three days workshop of Advanced Pharmaceutical Analysis and Regulatory Registrations (2010), and played a key role in founding Beijing Drug Metabolism Discussion Group (2011). He also proposed and worked with several pharmaceutical scientists in USA and China to establish CPSA-Shanghai Young Scientist Excellence Award (2011). Dr. Zhu s contact information: mingshe.zhu@gmail.com Yuan-Hua Ding, Ph.D. Senior Director and Head of External R&D Innovation Asia Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development Dr. Yuan-Hua Ding is a Senior Director and the Head of Pfizer External R&D Innovation Asia, Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development. He partners with colleagues in Pfizer External R&D Innovation Unit, Pfizer Business Development Group and Pfizer Asia Research to evaluate academic research capabilities in Asia, build and manage a research network of academic institutes, biotech companies and Contracted Research Organizations (CROs). He liaises with therapeutic area and technology research unit leaderships in accessing the science and innovation needed to support Pfizer mission in Asia. Prior to his current role, Dr. Ding hold a variety of positions in the Pfizer R&D division, including Head of Structural Biology at the Research Technology Center (RTC) in Cambridge, MA, Associate Research Fellow and Senior Research Scientist. He oversaw a group of scientists responsible for protein production, characterization, crystallization, crystallography and structure-based drug design. His group supported structural based drug deign portfolio of 15+ programs, through collaborative effort between RTC, Pfizer global structural biology groups and therapeutic area project teams, including oncology, diabetes, inflammation and CNS. Dr. Ding received a bachelor s degree in Electronic Engineering from Peking University in 1987 and a master s degree in Biophysics from Tsinghua University in In 1996, after completed his doctoral studies in Biochemistry at the University of Pittsburgh, he moved to Harvard University as a postdoctoral fellow at Prof. Don Wiley s lab to study structural immunology. 9

Burroughs Director, Procurement Programs NJ Small Business Development Centers Rutgers Business School Graduate Programs Helping small business owners successfully compete in the government contracting arena is Stephanie s responsibility and passion. Stephanie D. Burroughs, Director of Procurement Programs for the NJ Small Business Development Centers where she manages a team of consultants and staff who provide a variety of services to diverse small businesses that include individual advisor sessions focused on federal and state government agency sourcing strategies, identifying contract opportunities, procurement preference programs; registrations, certifications, certification auditing services, matchmaking opportunities and more. A variety of training and matchmaking programs are developed to provide small business owners direct contact with buyers and purchasing decision makers; educate small business owners about the current sourcing environment; develop marketing strategies; and demystify the contracting process with various federal, state and local government sectors. For more than 25 years Stephanie has provided content rich presentations that empower and inspire her audiences and which move them to take immediate action. She has trained, coached and consulted with 1,000's of small business owners and has been a speaker for and developed 100's of training programs, expos and conferences all devoted to the growth, development and empowerment of diverse small businesses and women. On behalf of NJ Transit, The Port Authority of NY & NJ and Gannett Fleming Corddry and Carpenter, Stephanie has directed and managed a variety of small business development programs, M/W/S/DBE certification, and contract compliance monitoring for multimillion dollar construction programs and the development of the first ever MBE/SBE construction expos exposing minority and small business contractors to the public contracting arena and large construction management firms in the NY/NJ area. Stephanie has been featured on WMBC cable TV, Comcast Cable TV and in Diversity Plus Magazine. She has received a variety of awards and recognition including the recent: State Star award - Association of Small Business Development Centers, San Antonio, TX; Women's Leadership Award - National Minority Business Council, NYC, and recognition for her economic development efforts in the City of Newark by the Brick City Development Council. An entrepreneur herself, Stephanie is President of StephanieSpeaking LLC, a professional and inspirational business development speaking, training and coaching firm. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, Newark, N.J. where she earned her B.S. in Management; and she has continued her education through extensive training programs. NJSBDC notable accomplishments include: Generated in excess of $600,000 in program income over the past 6 years. Partnered with NJ Transit to plan and host two multi- week Construction Estimating courses on the Rutgers Newark campus. 10

Currently, Joe is the Founder and CEO of SourcePad, a virtual outsourcing company. Prior to SourcePad, Joe was the founding CEO of the largest ad network for ecommerce sites and product manufacturers, Guidester (now Searchandise Commerce). Formerly, Joe was the Managing Director of REOL, Internet Analyst at Laidlaw, founder/president of Diadem (a multi-player game company), and founder/principal of JEV (an import/export company). Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Joe was an engineer, designing multi-million dollar satellites at Hughes Aircaft. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University and a Masters of Science from the University of California Berkeley. Joe is a frequent speaker and has been quoted in numerous publications, including BusinessWeek, Fortune, Crain's, Advertising Age and Inc. Magazine. Over the course of his career, Joe has raised over $20 million in financing from both angels and VC's. Prior to his current venture, he was the president of an e-commence importing company, Genesis International Corp. Tony is also the sitting VP of Public Relations of NACEA (North-America Chinese Entrepreneur Association), he is one of the founders and senior executive officers of NACEA since

12 Panelists: John Ason Angel Investor John Ason has been an angel investor for over 13 years specializing in early stage pre-revenue companies. He has made over thirty eclectic investments in the areas of e- commerce, technology, advertising and entertainment. John was at AT&T Bell Labs for over 25 years, first involved in software and technology development, then in marketing and business management of large telecommunications projects overseas. He is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a guest lecturer at the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson and at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. John's hobbies include traveling, golf, GO (oriental game) and mentoring companies. A typical company consists of one or two people in a garage or kitchen with minimal or no revenues. Average investment from the angel network for the first round is $275K. Any low capital industry with high growth potential qualifies with the exception of medical and biotech. Eyal Bino Founder and Managing Partner, Worldwide Investor Network (WIN) Eyal Bino is Founder and Managing Partner of the Worldwide Investor Network (WIN), a NY-based funding accelerator focused on helping global early stage technology companies shorten their path to their first round of funding in the US and to accelerate their ventures. WIN s investor community of VCs, angel investors, investment bankers and private equity firms invest in technology companies with high growth potential in the range of $500K-$5M. 12

13 Previosuly, Eyal has been the Founder and CEO of BornGlobal, a consulting firm focused on accelerating international startups in the US market, with a focus on new media, gaming and consumer internet. Eyal holds a Masters Degree in International Relations and International Business from New York University and is actively involved in research, writing and speaking about entrepreneurship in the global world, and the use of digital and social media to bridge between businesses, cultures and people. Fernandes, J. Skyler Venture Capital, Centripetal Capital Partners COO of the South African Chamber of Commerce in America (SACCA) Fernandes is a venture capitalist at Centripetal Capital Partners, an early stage venture fund with an innovative investment structure and invests across industries including: internet, telecom, healthcare, and energy. Mr. Fernandes leads the Missing Middle Initiative, launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, focused on creating funds that invest $100K-$3M, a critical financing gap for businesses globally. Previously, Mr. Fernandes worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse, in the asset securitization group at Societe Generale, and raised capital for Latin American corporations at Standard Bank. Additionally, Mr. Fernandes serves as COO of the South African Chamber of Commerce in America (SACCA), is a serial entrepreneur co-founding a number of companies, and is a member of Echoing Green's Social Investment Council. He graduated a year early from New York University summa cum laude, due to coursework at Harvard University where he studied quantum physics. Mark Tang, Ph.D. MBA Angel Investor, Managing Director and Chairman,WT Global Capital Inc, World Tech Ventures, LLC Dr. C. Mark Tang is currently head of of World Tech Ventures, LLC, an international merchant banking and advisory firm specializing in financing and advising small medium enterprises (SMEs)in US and China/Asia, and Chairman of GCA Therapeutics, Ltd., a US specialty pharmaceutical company focusing in-licensing and developing drug for Chinese market. Dr. Tang has is an entrepreneur, educator, and a life science and high tech investment banker. Dr. Tang has co-founded three successful ventures. Most recently he was a director and co-founder of a digital right management tech company which was acquired by a public company. Dr. Tang has previously worked in Wall Street in different capacities including equity research, investment banking, and asset management for over 15 years at major investment banks. Dr. Tang is a co-founder and Chairman of the World Biotechnology Forum, through which Dr. Tang has provided educational conferences regarding bio entrepreneurship and venture financing in US and Asia. Dr. Tang has published two books and contributed regularly to international trade publications. He is 13

14 also a frequent international speaker on various investment topics in US and China. From , Dr. Tang was also an instructor and biotech director at Rutgers Business School, where he taught biotech finance, venture capital and business development courses. Dr. Tang was one of the first identifying Asia biotech as a growth area, wrote one of the first article on biotech equity risk management and one of the first book on investing in biotech sector. Dr. Tang had been an advisor for non-profit and science park in Asia. He works as a research scientist with IBM T.J.Watson research center on IT service management and has received three IBM research awards. He has been very active with several high profile oversea Chinese communities in Greater New York area in last 5 years. He is also Secretary of CIE-GNYC and has been a major organizer of more than 10 conferences and seminars of various sizes. Tao Tao finished his Ph.D in computer science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in He also received M.S and B.S in computer science in 1995 and 1992 from Wuhan University, China. Prior to joining IBM in February, 2006, He had worked with United Airlines as a senior architect for 4 years ( ) developing large-scale mission-critical applications for airport operations. His research interests include cloud computing, IT service management(itsm), distributed computing, data mining and service-oriented architecture(soa).
