We hope you can join us for a special jazz-filled evening Friday, May 4 at Sandia Resort & Casino and on Saturday, May 5 for the Annual Golf Tournament at Sandia Golf Club. April 4 is the early bird deadline for discounted dinner tickets. We are proud to announce the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient, Paul DiPaola, Core Class of 2000, and the Distinguished Leadership Award recipient, Phil Bryson. They will be honored at the Annual Dinner for their accomplishments and contributions to their communities and the state. In January, the 2018 Connect New Mexico Program concluded with the final graduation session in Roswell. Since 2010, the Roswell community s hospitality has helped participants enjoy a memorable and successful conclusion to their program year. Congratulations, Connect Class of 2018! Please welcome the sixteenth Local Government Leadership Program class. They had their first session in Santa Fe at the end of February where they engaged in team building exercises and heard from experts on a range of current issues facing New Mexico. The second and final session will take place in at the beginning of April. Core Program participants finished the economic development session in Las Cruces in January and visited Hobbs for their fourth session focused on education. Their remaining sessions include the environment and natural resources session in Farmington and the government, crime, and justice session in Taos. In March, the Alumni Program hosted Leadership Development Day at the Country Club, an advanced leadership training designed specifically for Leadership New Mexico alumni. Additional summer tours and activities for alumni will be announced soon. Information on the Alumni Program and Lifetime Memberships can be found on the back of this newsletter. Rex Wilson, Southern System Director with Presbyterian Medical Services, was honored as the 2017 Cattleman of the Year by the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association (NMCGA). See back page for details or visit: LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT DAY In early March, the Alumni Program hosted Leadership Development Day at the Country Club. At this advanced leadership program, alumni, lifetime members, and guests participated in additional training, discussion, and handson activities specifically tailored to graduates from our Core, Connect, and Local Government Leadership Programs. The program was facilitated by Phil Bryson of On the Edge productions who has more than 35 years of experience in corporate training and is this year s Distinguished Leadership Award recipient Brent Moore, Attorney and Shareholder with Montgomery & Andrews, was elected Managing Partner of the firm as of on January 1, Steve Harris has started his own business and is a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones in Roswell. Troy Hughes, Fire Chief for Los Alamos County, recently graduated with a Naval Postgraduate School Master s Degree from The Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) Bill Herbst, Chairman and Treasurer with Bridgers & Paxton Consulting Engineers, has been promoted to President and Chairman of the engineering firm. The class engaged in personal leadership and skill building exercises with Phil Bryson, On the Edge Productions, followed by dinner at Gerald Peters Gallery. The next day, the class participated in a training simulation and toured the New Mexico National Guard Onate Complex and was hosted for dinner at Concho Resources. During the session, the class learned about New Mexico s history and culture, budget and capital outlay issues, tax system, economic development, K-12 and higher education, and healthcare. During the session, the class learned about the structure of municipalities and counties and the issues they experience, and received an overview of the court, juvenile, and immigration systems, K-12 and higher education, and heard about the effects of violence on communities. The class participated in team building exercises with Phil Bryson, and had the opportunity to tour and visit locations throughout Roswell. Melissa Graham, Connect 2017, and her husband, Bradley Graham, Connect 2015, welcomed George Ryan Graham to their family on November 28, George weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 19 in length. The goal of the Alumni Program is to continue the education of Leadership New Mexico graduates in a meaningful and dynamic way. Interaction with graduates from other programs and class years expands networks, exposes leaders to a wider diversity of perspectives, and fosters personal and professional relationships. As a graduate, you have the capability to be a powerful voice for change in New Mexico. Learn about the Alumni Program and become a member today. LEADERSHIP NEW MEXICO ENDOWMENT FUND In 2009, Leadership New Mexico established an endowment fund to secure the future of the organization. The purpose of the endowment fund is to provide a permanent source of income to offset administrative expenses, allow the organization to focus its fundraising efforts exclusively on program expenses, and serve as a financial cushion against lean times to ensure its mission will be sustained in perpetuity. Gifts to Leadership New Mexico s endowment fund are made through Lifetime Memberships and are fully tax-deductible. Currently, there are 201 Lifetime Members who have contributed to the endowment. It is not necessary to be a graduate of Leadership New Mexico to become a Lifetime Member. If you would like to support the endowment fund or purchase a Lifetime Membership, contact Leadership New Mexico.
