3 PRESENTATION Our partner Flamenco School was founded in Seville in The growing interest that already existed in flamenco all over the world, as a true cultural manifestation, as well as the attraction this art from held for the non-spanish public at large, led our partners to set up a cultural center which would, at the same time, be a flamenco school and place of encounter for these hundreds of young people who were beginning to love flamenco and the city of Seville as one of the epicenters of flamenco art. This original motivation is what continues to encourage the group of people who now comprise the Flamenco School and whose staff, twelve years after its formation, now includes a total of 12 people, between administrative workers and teachers. Currently, the School has the pleasure of teaching an average of 600 flamenco students every year coming from nearly thirty different countries. The flamenco courses offered through the School avoid large groups, with the number of students limited to seven per class, and personalized programs are designed for learning the different forms of flamenco, always including the presence of a guitarist and singer with the objective of familiarizing students with the flamenco ambience. Quality and personalized attention are the main features of our partner School, which has progressively helped the School to become a well-respected center where a wide variety of courses are offered, from the learning of flamenco dance (both technique and choreography), to flamenco guitar and the rhythms of compás & palmas. Furthermore, taking into account that the art of flamenco is an integral part of a specific cultural context, the School round out its programmes with a wide variety of activities outside the classroom that includes attending flamenco shows, flamenco cultural clubs and festivals, as well cultural tours of Seville and its environs with the aim of familiarizing our students with the many landscapes of Andalusia. Presence at the Feria Mundial del Flamenco since 2001 Regular Courses Individual Courses All year round DANCE & TECHNIQUE Dance: The course focuses exclusively on the staging of choreography for different flamenco styles (seguiriyas, soleá, soleá por bulerías, alegrías, etc.) Technique: These courses deal with the coordination of movements of different parts of the body and consolidation of concepts which are fundamental for the flamenco dance. All levels. Maximum of seven students per course. All the courses begin on Mondays. 5 GUITAR Covering all aspects of flamenco guitar, methods, exercises, falsetas, playing for singing and dancing... The one-to-one nature of the classes guarantees that each student can work on the aspect that he/ she wishes to learn, improve or perfect. COMPAS & PALMAS (rhythm and clapping) Mastery of rhythms is fundamental to the practice of flamenco. The compás & palmas classes are a complement to the dance and guitar courses. The group can choose the palo they want to study. One Week Special Group Course 23 rd. 27 th. of July - Velá de Sta. Ana in Triana At the end of July every Sevillian has a date in Betis street, on the other bank of the river in Triana. Between the twenty-first and twenty-sixth of July the traditional Velá of Santiago and Santa Ana is celebrated. Betis street is dressed up and casetas (free-entry stands) are installed where food and beverages are the protagonists, since you can enjoy a great variety of pescaito frito (fried fish) and green almonds. Every night, in the Plaza del Altozano, there are evening performances and sevillanas or singing contests, and it is the time when casetas are at their busiest with very large numbers of people. And for those who may find the casetas full, they can always visit the bars in calle Betis, San Jacinto, Castilla or Pureza.
