2 1 General The MTpro update can be downloaded and installed directly from Internet using the built-in update function (full MTpro installation, Internet connection and administrator privileges are required). Depending on the option settings MTpro can check automatically, if updates are available. To run the update manually, invoke the command Check for updates in MTpro s help menu and follow the directions of the update wizard. Page 2 of 20

5 2.2 New catalogs and assembly instructions The following catalogs were updated: Catalog Version Available languages Basic Mechanical Elements 13.0 de, en, fr, it, es Moreover several assembly instructions were added as new or updated. 3 New layout designer contents and functions 3.1 Update of layout designer help In all languages the layout designer help has been updated to the actual version. All the new functions mentioned below are described in the updated help file. Page 5 of 20

6 3.2 Extended dimension line functions Measure label offset Offset Measure Label is a new dimension line property used to vary the distance between measure text and line. The following picture illustrates a measure with increased distance between line and text Fixation of components with dimension lines Any components can be connected to one another in a specified distance with help of a dimension line. A Double-click on the dimension line will open the following options dialog: Enter a value for Distance and press the Return key to adjust the distance between two objects that are connected by the dimension line. The -button determines which of the objects will move. The Lock Measure Line option will permanently connect both objects at the specified distance. If one object is moved, the other object will move with it accordingly. Page 6 of 20

7 Hint: Start with the Relative positioning command to adjust the distance between the two parts in X, Y and Z. Finally, create a measure line and lock it to connect the parts permanently. As an alternative the Create Link Element command may also be used to connect two parts permanently Visibility of dimension lines By default, dimension lines are visible in all views. As a new feature, in 2D views dimension lines, that stand vertical to the viewing plane, are automatically hidden. With the Visibility options you can select individual views in which the dimension line should be shown. The above picture illustrates the control of dimension line visibility. The example dimension line was specified to be visible in the top, left and 3D (ISO) views. But since the dimension line stands vertical to the top view it is automatically hidden in that view Toolbar button Align to dimension line In the Layout Designer toolbar there is a new button available: Align to dimension line aligns the dimension text to the dimension line. If switched off, the text will be rotated so that it is always in line with the current viewing angle. In the following picture aligned text (left) and non-aligned text (right) are compared. 8 3.3 Assemblies Creation and management of assemblies In the Layout Designer components can be combined into an assembly. This allows the generation of a hierarchical order list. The dialog for the production of assemblies can be accessed using the context menu: In the Assemblies dialog, new modules can be created and existing assemblies changed and deleted: Page 8 of 20

Position number of the selected assembly or the one to be created. In the layout and order lists, assemblies can be differentiated using position numbers. Assembly position number and component position number are separated by a point. Article number of the assembly - mandatory field Designation of the assembly Parameters of the assembly Remark for the assembly Product line of the assembly All components of the selected assembly are colored to identify them in the 3D view. 10 Exclude: Create/Update: Delete assembly: Revert: Close: Removes the selected components from the current assembly Creates a new assembly or updates the current assembly. The selected components will be added to the current assembly, if they are not already a member. Deletes the current assembly definition and removes the assignment on the related components. Important: the components themselves will not be deleted. Sets the values of the input fields to the original values. Closes the window. Unsaved changes in the input fields will be discarded. 3.4 Extended functionality for position numbers Generate position numbers automatically Until now the position number of a part was created by the program during insertion to the layout and could be manually overwritten afterwards. The display of position numbers in the layout had to be switched on for each individual part. Now position numbers can can be generated according to a user defined pattern and displayed automatically. To do this, first select the components or modules for which you want to assign new position numbers. The button Create position numbers automatically opens the dialog for setting the values for the automatic position number assignment: Page 10 of 20

12 3.4.2 Edit position numbers interactively Position numbers for several components can be changed easily and quickly in the layout by selecting their position number fields. To do this, open the context menu with the right mouse button and choose the appropriate command from the context menu: In the following dialog you can set the start value and increment, similar to the automatic position number creation (see page 10): Start value: Increment: First position number which will be assigned Increment between the position numbers to be created After confirming the settings with the OK button, select one position number after another to define the new sequence. 13 With a double click on the last position number in the sequence, the command is finished. Then the new position numbers are assigned and displayed on the existing position number fields. Page 13 of 20

14 3.5 Layout drawing templates A new MTpro function can be used to export different 2D or 3D layout views true to scale into a predefined drawing template. The number, type and position of views on the drawing as well as the contents of the drawing text fields can be selected by the user Creating a dimension drawing The button Create Drawing opens the dialog for creating a drawing based on the current Layout Designer document The dialog has the following options: Options Format selection: Number of views: Setting the print style: DIN A4, DIN A4 landscape or DIN A3 landscape Number of views to be printed on a page. For each view a selection box and an input field for the scale are displayed. Page 14 of 20

15 Select view x: Calculation of the scale: Show reference scale: Buttons: Drawing header : Create : The printing for each of the selected views is based on this setting. You can also select previously saved camera positions (see Saving and loading camera positions). Each view can be scaled individually. Select automatically to use a single scale suitable for all views. Select optimized to determine a suitable scale for each view. Select manually and specify a scale for each view manually. Enable this option to show the reference scale in the drawing for each view. For isometric views the reference scale will never be shown. Opens the "Drawing header" window to capture the header data of the drawing (see Drawing header dialog). Creates a PDF based on the given data. The creation of the first PDFs may take longer, as necessary program parts needed for the PDF creation are loaded into memory Drawing header dialog If you click on the button Drawing header inside the dialog Create dimension drawing (see page 14), the following dialog will be opened: Page 15 of 20

16 The drawing-specific data can be found under Header options. The Modification data group indicates fields that are usually filled after a drawing change. Page 16 of 20

17 3.6 Saving and loading camera positions In the Layout Designer you can save and load your current view as a camera position. These positions will be stored inside an MTpro project file. You can load them by left-clicking on the snapshot, or you can start an animation by left-clicking on the appropriate icon. Save the currently selected position of the 3D window. Play the saved views with the stored values for the transition time and display time in a loop. Saved camera positions will be illustrated in the icon bar with a preview picture / snapshot: Left-click on a snapshot: - Position will be shown in the 3D window Right-click on a snapshot: - Snapshot can be deleted - Name of the snapshot, transition time and display time can be edited in a separate dialog Page 17 of 20
