BUILDING EXHIBIT SCHEDULE: Wednesday, June 6 Exhibit Day: Please observe the following schedule: Noon - 2:30 p.m. Set up building. 2:30-3:00 p.m. Check-in for those not wishing to conference judge. 3:00-4:30 p.m. Judging begins. Check-in items to be conference judged. Conference judging begins. 4:30-5:00 p.m. Judges break. Exhibits can be checked in, but no conference judging. 5:00-7:00 p.m. Exhibit check-in and judging. Conference judging. 7:00 p.m. Exhibit entry closed. Judges choose State Fair items. Exhibit Pick-up All exhibits must remain in the building until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10. Premiums will be forfeited for any exhibit removed early. Items that can be carried out by one person may be removed between 4-6 p.m. on Sunday. Members and parents will need a fair pass to pick up exhibits on Sunday. Exhibits can also be picked up on Monday between Noon. and 2:00 p.m., or from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All exhibits must be checked out by 4-H officials.
4 GENERAL RULES FOR EXHIBITORS 1. 4-H Building Entries will be accepted from 2:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 6. See the schedule of events for details. 2. FFA Farm Mechanics exhibits accepted from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday, June Each exhibit shall be owned or made by the exhibitor and shall represent work accomplished in a 4-H or FFA project being carried in the project/school year. 4 All judging will be done on the basis of the Danish system which includes blue, red and white groups. 5. Prize money will be awarded to exhibitors. Blue, red and white ribbon winners will receive the points indicated in the premium list. Premium value will be determined by the Franklin County Fair Board. All 4-H and FFA fair premiums must be picked up at the fair (see premium payout schedule). If you will not be able to pick your premiums up at the fair, you must arrange for someone to pick them up for you. No premiums will be paid out after the fair. 6. In all classes the decisions of the judge will be final. ALL BUILDING EXHIBITS MUST REMAIN UNTIL 4:00 P.M. SUNDAY, JUNE 10 Items that can be carried by one person can be removed from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., on Sunday. Larger items must be removed Monday, Noon -1:00 p.m., or 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. No exceptions! 4 7. FOR 4-H BUILDING EXHIBITS: Each exhibitor will be limited to a maximum of 10 items per project except for photography. Photography project exhibitors are limited to 5 exhibits. You may enter more than two per class, as long as they are not duplicates. Color change does not qualify exhibit as being different. Construction of the item must be done to induce a change. Notebooks, posters and file card systems will be accepted. Educational displays must include three-dimensional items. Conference Judging is limited to four exhibits, but only one exhibit per project. 8. All exhibits must be pre-registered. All advanced registrations must be in the University of Missouri Extension Office no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 25. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUILDING EXHIBITS Where the exhibit list states, "any item made," members may display any item made in that project. This includes notebooks, file cards, photo displays, posters, or educational displays. Regardless of project, the following dimensions must be used: Poster - No larger than 14" x 22"; flat only; do not fasten three-dimensional items to the poster. Any Photo display (These requirements must be followed for a photo exhibit in any project.) - Photos must be 8 X10 or smaller. Photos must be mounted on 8" x 10 solid matte board. Matte board is a specific material available at many craft stores. Solid means there are no cutouts or other holes in the matte board, either around or behind the photo. Mount photos on the smoothest side of the mat board using an adhesive designed for permanent mounting of photographs. Exhibitors must place mounted photos in an 8.25x10.5 protective plastic sleeve. Check the State Fair Photography Exhibit guidelines for information on ordering photo sleeves.and matte board, at: Educational display - Must not exceed 18 inches in height, 16 inches in depth (front to back) and 12 inches in width. Must include three-dimensional items and stand alone. (Posters with items taped to them do not qualify as an educational display. Science fair display boards are too large.) Entomology or Geology display boxes - Box must be 18" long x 24" wide and 3½" deep. Plexiglas or plastic covers are preferred. No handles or knobs. Working models These exhibits should show how things work (cut away sections of motors or computers for example) or can be used to help identify parts such as parts of a motor or computer. Items such as model wildlife plots, cut-away engines, or other similar displays should require floor space no larger than 14 x 22. Decorated Cakes The use of forms or pans is recommended. Cakes should not exceed 13 inches in height or at the base. Cake boards should not exceed a 1 inch margin on each side of cake pan or form and the margin is considered part of the 13 inch base limit. Use Royal Icing, Rolled Fondant or commercial product (i.e. Dapp) that will harden and preserve the decoration on the cake pan or form. Adding Tylose powder to fondant will help it hold its shape in humidity. No real cakes, butter crème icing or tube/gel icing. Scrapbooking Exhibits should be only 1 page, 1 side representative of the complete scrapbook. Size not to exceed 12 inches by 12 inches. All pages should be in a clear protective sleeve or clear zipper bag. Do not frame.
5 5 CONFERENCE JUDGING Conference judging is a process where the judge interviews the member about their exhibit. Members can have up to four exhibits conference judged, but only one exhibit in a project area. That means that a member cannot have two craft items conference judged, even if the items are in different classes. The judge will award the ribbon for the item based on a combination of the interview and the quality of the exhibit. Members may wish to have items that "just didn t turn out quite right" conference judged. 13 13 GENERAL RULES FOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS 1. All exhibits must be pre-registered. All advanced registrations must be in the Franklin County University of Missouri Extension Center no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday, May Animals must be in place by the designated time on the day of the show. They will be released on the evening of the show, with the exact time to be determined by the 4-H Youth Specialist, and announced the evening of the show. Stall area must be cleaned before animals are removed from the fair grounds. Premiums will be forfeited if exhibits are removed before the time listed, or if stall area is not cleaned, unless written permission is obtained from Dave Hileman or Ken Bolte. 3. Read health requirements. 4. The Franklin County Fair Livestock shows are open to anyone age 8-18 by December 31, 2017 who is a member in good standing of a Franklin County 4-H Club, and who is enrolled in a livestock project of the species exhibited; or who is a member of a Franklin County FFA chapter who is not older than 19 on December 31, The show is also open to some 4-H and FFA members in surrounding counties. See rule 12 for more information. 5. Animals exhibited must be owned and shown by the exhibitor. If an exhibitor has more than one exhibit in a class, the exhibitor may recruit another youth exhibitor to show one of the animals. 6. Exhibitors vehicles may enter the fairgrounds if necessary until 11:30 a.m. through the northeast gate by the swimming pool (off Park Street). All vehicles must be off the fairgrounds by noon. 7. Bedding for livestock must be provided by exhibitor. 8. Judging will be based on the Danish System; all exhibits will receive a blue, red, or white ribbon. Prize money will be awarded based on the ribbon received. See class list for the points awarded to each class. Dollar value of points will be determined by the Franklin County Fair Board. All 4-H and FFA fair premiums must be picked up at the fair (see premium payout schedule). If you will not be able to pick your premiums up at the fair, you must arrange for someone to pick them up for you. No premiums will be paid out after the fair. 9. Livestock exhibitors must use Livestock Entry Form 10. Exhibitors will be limited to two entries per single animal class and one entry per group class. 11. A stall fee of $2.00 per animal for beef and dairy, $1.00 per animal for sheep, swine, and goats, and 50 cents per entry for rabbits and poultry, must accompany advanced registration. Doe and litter, and pen classes will be considered as one entry. Stall fees and exhibitor passes must be paid by separate checks H and FFA members outside of Franklin County must contact the Franklin County University of Missouri Extension Center, (636) , to verify eligibility to show. Out of county exhibitors are limited to $100 in premiums. 13. No trophy will be given unless there are two or more animals within a breed. 14. Showmanship: Trophies will be awarded in age divisions for Dairy, Beef, Swine, Sheep, Goat, Poultry, and Rabbits as listed below. Contestants must exhibit animals they own. Must be 2 exhibitors before trophy is awarded. Beef, Poultry, and Rabbits will have 3 divisions: a. Junior Showmanship Contestants 8-10 years of age as of December 31, b. Intermediate Showmanship Contestants years of age as of December 31, c. Senior Showmanship Contestants years of age as of December 31, Dairy, Swine, Sheep and Goat will have 2 divisions: a. This information shall be documented on a VS Form 9-2 or similar certificate which shall accompany the poultry to the exhibition and shall be made available on request. Animals must be tested before arriving for the show. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POULTRY AND RABBITS A. All rabbits and birds must be totally free of disease or parasites. All animals will be inspected when brought to the show table. Animals exhibiting parasites or disease will be disqualified from the show. 1. 19 Franklin County Fair 4-H ARCHERY TOURNAMENT 19 The 4-H Archery tournament will be held at the east edge of the fair grounds on Sunday, June 10. Shooting begins at 1:00 p.m. You must check in at least 15 minutes before your scheduled shooting time. Archers must pre-register by June 1 on the 4-H Archery Tournament Entry Form. Only those who pre-register will be allowed to participate. Youth Class is open to 4-H members age 8-10, Junior Class is open to 4-H ers age 11-13, Senior Class is open to 4-H members age 14 and older. Ages are based on the members age on December 31, Members must be enrolled in a 4-H Shooting Sports Archery project under the supervision of a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Archery leader. Members participating in the shoot can purchase an Exhibitor Pass for $12.00 from the University of Missouri Extension Center. Exhibitor passes must be purchased by 4:00 p.m. on June 6.
