1 1 State Fair Exhibit Check List 2018 FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE PROJECTS Food and Nutrition Food Preservation Clothing/ Sewing May enter up to three classes based on the phase in which they are enrolled; one exhibit per class Displayed on disposable plate & covered with plastic wrap or in a plastic ziplock bag. Include recipe using Exhibit Recipe Card Cookies must be unfrosted. No frosting icing or glaze on quick breads. No fillings or toppings on foam or shortened cakes. Must be suitable for fair without spoilage or change of appearance Highly perishable foods not acceptable. Members may enter up to three classes in their division. Must use current OSU/USDA processing guides, Ball Blue Book 2009 or newer, Sew Easy to Preserve, or pectin product inserts/website. All exhibits must have completed the 4-H Food Preservation (revised in 2015) with complete information & instructions/recipe All containers must have label or tape with member name, county, class number, date food preserved, processing time and method. Include jar rings on all canned products. Dried foods should be in jars or sturdy plastic bags May enter three construction classes and one exhibit in the creativity, costumes, hands for larger service, and skills notebook classes. Senior and Intermediate members may also enter the class. 4-H Sewing/ Clothing Exhibit Card must be securely attached to each entry. This is the only exhibit tag needed. Must mark skills on level in which they are enrolled. 2 2 EXPRESSIVE ARTS PROJECTS Fiber Art Cake Decorating Leather craft Non-Original Art Original Art May enter up to three classes/one article in each class number. Senior and Intermediate members may also enter one exhibit in Celebrate our World class. May enter up to two classes, but no more than one entry per class number. Senior and Int. members may also enter one exhibit in the Class. May enter up to three classes; only one exhibit per class. Senior & Int. members may also enter one exhibit in the class. Articles using more than one technique should be in class that fits most prominent technique. Each article should be finished completely, front & back. If framed or meant to be hung, must have securely attached hanger using plastic hangers (from Ext. office) No glass is allowed. 4-H Fiber Arts Exhibit/ must be attached. If article is designed as a set, bring both items fastened together. Exhibits entered in the Explanation card must be attached. Exhibits entered in the Exhibits must be displayed on a disposable plate or board. Exhibits must be packaged in a box, by the exhibitor, for easy transport. Each piece of an exhibit must be labeled on the back or bottom with the member s name, county, and exhibit class number. Each exhibit will consist of one article or pair of articles. must be attached. Exhibits entered in the Celebrate Our World Class must include the Celebrate Our World Explanation card Overall appearance of entire article will be considered during judging. May enter three classes, but only one entry per class number. Senior and Intermediate members may also enter one art exhibit (either original or non-original) in the class. Must have name, county, on back or bottom. Member applies elements of design but can use pieces designed or created by others such as patterns/pre-stamped outlines. Pre-designed component must not be total design must be attached. Exhibits entered in the No frames (except chalk, charcoals or pastels) and no sharp edges or points or glass. Artwork must be mounted for display, including jewelry. If meant to hang, two plastic hanger(s) must be securely attached which will support the weight of the item (at Ext office) May enter three classes, but only one entry per class number. Senior and Intermediate members may also enter one art exhibit (either original or nonoriginal) in the class. Must have name, county, on back or bottom. 3 3 EXPRESSIVE ARTS PROJECTS Photography May enter two classes (no more than one entry per class) & club entry. Senior and Int. members may also enter one exhibit in the class. Attach two plastic adhesive hangers with about ½ inch exposed over the top center of exhibit. No captions except classes: Class _, Photo Journalism; _, Creative Uses; _ Technical Challenge No additions or embellishments to mats or mounts. No plastic covered pictures. No frames are allowed in any class. No date imprints allowed in photos. Photography Exhibit is required. Exhibits entered in the Celebrate Our World Explanation card. Photos must be either mounted or matted with a rigid backing. Must be backed for protection. Surface showing must be mat board. Exhibitor s name/ county/class number should be printed on the back of the exhibit. Videos go to Communications area. COMMUNICATION PROJECTS Educational Displays 1 exhibit/class May be a poster or 3- dimensional display, individual size 48 wide (when lying flat), 24 deep, 36 high Club exhibit size 60 wide, 24 deep, 36 high. Weight of display cannot exceed 30 pounds. Videography May exhibit one exhibit per class. Videography Exhibit required. Open to all members/projects Must be 30 seconds to 10 minutes in length, not including entry information at beginning No notebooks or If not recorded by member books accepted. May include must be from public domain pictures, models, diagrams & and not infringe on copyright actual articles. Educational Displays Exhibit must be attached Each piece of an exhibit must have the class number. Sources must be listed on front of display. Must be in format viewable from any computer or uploaded to website Creative Writing May exhibit one exhibit per class. Appropriate explanation sheet must be attached. Short stories must be printed on 8 ½ x 11 paper. 1-3 pages for juniors 1-5 pages for intermediates 1-10 pages for seniors Blog entry must consist of 5-10 posts. Entries printed on 8 ½ x 11 paper. Must provide link to blog. Poems must be mounted for display. Size of display cannot exceed 12 x 12. Poem must have a title. HORTICULTURE PROJECTS (Horticulture exhibits come to State Fair the same time as all other exhibits.) Herbs & Herb Container Gardens May enter one exhibit in each class. Can t exceed 30 lbs. or measure larger than 30" x 30". A Herb must be firmly attached to all herb exhibits Selection of herbs is the choice of the 4-H member. 4-H Program is not responsible for the condition of the plants when returne. Vegetables/Herbs May enter only one exhibit in each class with the exception of Other class Plate exhibits will be exhibited on 9 paper plates which will be provided Vegetable Collection exhibits must fit on tray 18-1/2 x 14-1/2 x 2-3/4. Tray will be provided. Vegetable Exhibit Collection Explanation Card attached. Exhibits not returned. Flowers/ Ornamentals May enter only one entry in each class except Types, Other Perennial & Other Annual Class and kind of flower must appear on the exhibit tag attached to the exhibit In a CUT FLOWER exhibit of three blooms, all blooms must be of same color. Each flower is to have foliage attached or include foliage Total number of cut flower exhibits may not exceed Junior- 3 Intermediate- 4. Senior 5 Exhibits not returned. Container Gardening May enter only one exhibit in each class number. Selection of herbs is choice of the 4-H member Members name & county attached to bottom of container. Can t exceed 30 lbs or measure larger than 30 x 30 Container Gardening Exhibit Information Card covered with small ziplock bag to keep tag dry, attached w/duct tape 4-H Program can not be responsible for the condition of the plant when it is returned NATURAL SCIENCE PROJECTS
4 4 Forestry Geology Entomology Aquatic Ecology Sports Fishing May exhibit one or more exhibits One exhibit as Mounted Forestry Specimen One exhibit in each qualified Advanced Forestry exhibit class member's name, county At least 50% of the specimens must have been found by the exhibitor, five specimens collected in current year Put an asterisk on the label in front of the name of each specimen collected during the current 4-H year. Exhibit labeled with the member s name, county & class number. A Specimen Collection Geology Site Analysis sheet is required for each specimen in Intermediate and Senior Geology collections. Polished or cut specimens exhibited under Geology Ed Display (geodes cut only/not polished) Each exhibit must be labeled w/ member s name, county & class number. An Insects information sheet is required with Int & Sr collections. Insects must be collected in current year for Juniors, First Year Honeybee topics should be entered under Honey bee exhibits 50% of insects displayed by junior 2 nd & 3 rd yr, intermediates & seniors must be collected in current year (see General Rules of fair book) Number of insects required has changed. See requirements and suggested references in 4-H State Fair Book Fishing Poles: labeled w/name, county & class. Not longer than 108". Include explanation. Required Flies: Jr. 2; Int. 4; Sr. 6. (some wet and dry) Lures: Jr.1 spoon + I choice; Int.1 spoon, 1 spinner, + 2 choices; Sr. 1 spoon,1 spinner, 1 rooster tail + 3choices Explanation: Common Knots Jr. 3; Int. 5; Sr.7 knots Explanation Aquatic Fauna Specimens: See fair book Fish Prints: Jr. 1 print; Int. 2 prints; Sr. 3 prints See fair book Honeybee member s name, county Educational exhibit relating to honeybees, honeybee keeping, honeybee products or honeybee information. NATURAL SCIENCE PROJECTS LIVESTOCK RELATED Conservation Outdoors Marine Science Eggs Wool & Mohair member s name, county member s name, county Each exhibit piece a member s name, county Eggs should be brought to the Livestock office between 8-10am on Wednesday of Poultry May enter one fleece in a class. Place fleece in clear plastic bag. Name & county on bag. Open to all 4-H members. Attach: Educational Displays Explanation Card Exhibit: Must relate to conservation of soil, water, forests, marine life, range or wildlife width, 24 deep, (front to back) and 36 high. An educational exhibit relating to the out-ofdoors. width, 24 deep (front to back) and 36 high. Club exhibit may not exceed size 60 wide, 24 deep, 36 high. Explanation required: how to use exhibit, how made, where found, identify parts, etc. Exhibit relating to the marine environment. May be salt water or fresh water. width, 24 deep (front to back) and 36 high Attach an Educational Display Exhibit to exhibit. Judging Day. Each exhibit will be judged on interior and exterior quality and uniformity. Attach a fully completed 4-H Exhibit Tag. Entered during Livestock shows not in Exhibit Hall. See fair book for details. Each fleece must have a 4-H Wool Show Tag inserted inside the bag and visible
5 5 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS Science Aerospace Computer Geo-spatial Robotics class number. A number of materials are not allowed on the display for safety reasons, so do not include these in display. All parts of the display should be attached to one another in some way to keep the exhibit together as a unit. No books or notebooks will be accepted as part of the display. May be a poster or 3- dimensional display, Individual size 30 wide, 24 deep, 36 high, whereas Club exhibit size 60 wide, 24 deep, 36 high. An exhibit of two parts: (1) a rocket made by the member from the Aerospace Adventures Stage 2 project kit, and (2) a Rocketry Engineering Journal. You may include a disk, CD or thumb/ travel drive as part of your exhibit.
