Krystal Beckner April 2 Martin Hamilton April 11 Aaron VanDorn April 26 President s Message: March 17, 2016 We are already in Daylight Savings Time. The first day of spring is either the 20th or 21st of March depending on which calendar you are looking at. The pear trees are in bloom along with the daffodils and other flowers poking their leaves through the ground. Spring has sprung and our field trip to Hardtner for finding all kinds of good rocks is this Saturday the 19th. I am very excited for the opportunity to search for a great variety of specimens including agates, jasper, petrified wood, feldspar, satin spar, quartzite, gypsum and selenite and some fossils (oysters, horse teeth). I'll be doing a special program about the trip and our findings at our next meeting April 7. Also, bring your own "Show-Ask-Tell" rocks, minerals, fossils or gem stones (limit of 3 per person please) including any interesting rocks from the Hardtner field trip. We all learn from this special feature of our meetings. President, Mary Walters WE LOVE ROCKS!

4 Page 4 of 10 Enid Gem and Mineral Society Minutes March 3, 2016 The March meeting of the Enid Gem and Mineral Society was called to order by President Mary Walters at 7:01 P.M. in the east room of the Hoover Building on the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Enid, OK. There were seventeen members and one guest present. Mary led the group in reciting the Lord's Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Mary Walters presented the program Name That Rock with the members participating. After Show and Tell and a break with refreshments provided by Sue Ogden, John Haacke gave the treasurer's report. A motion was made by Kathy Marney to approve the February Minutes as written. It was seconded by John Haacke and approved. Sue Ogden passed out new directories to members that were present. Next Executive Board Meeting will be held on March 19, 2016 during our field trip to Hardtner, Kansas. Committee Reports: Kathy Marney is the new (temporary) secretary. March field trip to Hardtner, KS, is changed from March 12 to March 19, OLD BUSINESS: Sue Ogden discussed the up-coming field trip to Hardtner, KS, explaining the format of the trip and what we would be looking for to collect. Sue also talked about the swap on May 14th and the $5.00 cost per table and/or tailgate area. This is to help defray the $45 rental fee for the Meadowlake Pavilion. Mary Walters mentioned the Oklahoma State Council of Mineralogical Societies (OSCMS) swap at Stillwater, OK, on April 16, 2016 at 9:00 A.M. NEW BUSINESS: Bryan Baker volunteered to be the new Sunshine Man. Mary Walters announced that she and Leon would not be host and hostess to the November 2016 Treasure Showcase and asked for volunteers to take the positions. Motion to table until April s meeting. First Fridays downtown are starting April 1 and the club will be set up with the spinning wheel, grab bags and possibly baked goods at Johnson s Rock Shop. Work day is scheduled for April 2, 2016 at Johnson s Rock Shop about 11 AM. Meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M. Submitted by Temporary Secretary, Kathy Marney Enid Gem and Mineral Society Executive Board Meeting Minutes March 2016 There was no Executive Board Meeting for March.

Terrie Byfield Christmas Dinner We need help with refreshments for June and November. If you can help, please let us know at the next meeting or Sue at stormyrocks@sudddenlink.net or Mary at leon.walters@att.net. Thanks! April 7 Program Our program this month will be presented by Mary Walters. She will be providing us with lots of interesting information about the rocks and fossils we collected on our last field trip. For those of you who were able to attend, please bring up to 3 Show & Tell and/or Show & Ask items that you found on our trip. EGMS WORK DAY Cancelled until late April or early May! Bits and Pieces: Can t believe it but both Mary and Leon Walters were in hospital in March at the same time. Talk about togetherness! They re both home now, doing better. Candy Kent has been undergoing tests (not in school!) and says things are OK, she s just feeling not quite swell! I m fighting ultra-high blood pressure again and this computer is not helping! It will be down a few days this month for intensive care (that s to keep me from throwing it out the window). Haven t heard much else so here s hoping all are well. Our best wishes to those in NW Oklahoma and Kansas, home of the raging wildfire. Via friends, I ve learned the area of our last field trip is in the burn zone. I ve placed a call to Bill Smith (Hardtner museum) and the good news is his home phone is working, the slightly worrisome news is I did not get an answer but he may just be really busy helping others. Have a happy April everyone! Your editor, Sue
