WO N D E R F U L. Ranged from San Diego up the high desert TO Lake Tahoe and environs. Good trip with great friends. If you get a chance, don t miss. RockX in/on the Rockies! Now back to CBRG business at hand. I asked the shop Supervisors to have their input ready at the next meeting for integrating the many items donated by George Gikas estate. We ll consolidate and re-arrange the shop as necessary to accommodate what we can and auction the leftovers at the picnic or earlier if storage is short. Make sure you ve marked 10 AM October 6 on your calendar - the RockSwap will happen at K.A.R.S. Park Picnic Area 2. There are about twenty five picnic tables available at $ 10 a full table, $ 5.00 a half. Club will have a selection of rough and slabs available. We will provide water; soda at a reasonable price. The calendar has hit the target - membership for members is reduced to $25.00 for next year and the balance of this year. Nominations are being sought for next year s officers - new officers breathe new life, new concepts and new activities into the club. Try it; it is habit forming. Our snowbirds should start filtering in as the frost moves South. Temps on the Canadian border are approaching the forties. It will be nice to see friends returning to work with us. Don t forget our RockSwap is Oct 6. The Orlando club has their show that same weekend and Melbourne comes up in November. Nuff Said - Rock On! Tom Brown 2018 President

Quorum present. 2. Secretary s report: Cheryl read minutes from last general meeting. Motion to approve seconded and approved. 3. Treasurer s report was given by Eivor, filed for audit. 4. Membership report: Matt, 2018 Total is 80. Life 6, Renewed 40, New 34, Youth Workshop report: a. Equipment report: i. Lortone 18 saw blade ordered. ii. Leathers for Pixie 1 & 2 replaced, both need new end adapters. iii. Shop thermostat replaced. b. Classes: Casting with Matt Castor Sept Show: a. Show chair is being sought. Jennifer will assist Roz. b. Seven dealers have signed up and paid. c. Sluice and spinning wheel will be outside, possibly with Thunder Egg splitting vendor. d. Emily resigned as Silent Auction Chair. 7. New Business: a. Annual Christmas Party will be at Red Lobster, Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, 6:00p.m. $25 each. b. These are blue opalized petrified wood cabochons with synthetic opals set on them. ROCKY JONES CELEBRATION OF LIFE Rocky Jones was a past vendor at several of our shows. He recently passed away. His Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 29, from 11am to 3 pm at st Avenue DeLand, FL In Daytona Park Estates, between Hyacinth and Iris There will be Subway sandwiches, cookies, swimming, very casual, remembering him and how he liked a party!! 5 V OLUME 7, ISSUE Page 5 4 Club Purpose: The purpose of this club is to foster interest in and to promote knowledge and appreciation of minerals, gems, fossils, and the earth sciences. We also disseminate information and instruction in the lapidary arts and the utilization of precious metals in our crafts. These purposes are accomplished through regular meetings with informative programs, workshops, study groups, and field trips. CBRGC will have displays in the Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island, and Cocoa Libraries. They will have our displays in January 2019 to help with advertising our show. 6 Page 6 42nd SYMPHONY OF GEMSTONES FEBRUARY 2-3, 2019 Our major fundraising event needs everyone to help. The Symphony of Gemstones sponsored by Central Brevard Rock and Gem Club every year is our major fundraising event that helps support the workshop, purchase equipment, and other club activities. All members are encouraged to participate in some way. These are: 1. Donate jewelry materials, finished items, tools, books, or other lapidary related items to be sold at the Silent Auction. A collection box is at the Shop or call Roz Mestre Sign up at the January or February meeting to assist at the Admission Desk to sell tickets and receive admissions monies or help at Silent auction, demonstrating lapidary skills (a cabbing machine and a faceting machine will be available). We already have several volunteers but we do need back-up in the event someone is sick or injured and cannot make it. If members are attending the show, please check with admissions, silent auction and sluice tables to see if extra help is needed. Also, vendors sometimes need help to man their tables in order for them to take breaks. Please offer assistance in this area as well. 3. Provide finished items for display purposes only in the club showcase to show what club members are able to make at the workshop or elsewhere. These items will be returned. 4. Distribute flyers and post signs. It would be best to pick up flyers, posters and road signs at the January meeting. However, they will be available at the shop. Road signs should be set up one week prior to show date. Free newspaper advertising has been reduced so extra exposure through our flyers and signs is essential. Please help. Inform Roz Mestre, , if you know of free advertising sources. Locations that will accept flyers are local restaurants (not big chains), hair stylists, hotels, timeshares, RV parks, and any business that you may frequent. Always ask first, do not just leave flyers. 5. Help set up and tear down. Set up will be at 9 am, Friday, February 1, at the Kiwanis Island gym and is mostly taping down wiring and mats to the floor. Tear down will be Sunday, February 3, at 5 pm, where we will have staff help to fold and stack tables. We are responsible for pulling up wiring and floor mats, and returning show items to the workshop. Pick-ups or vans are needed. There are a few vendors that will need help packing up. Please be available to assist in this area. 6. There are lists of names with s &/or cell phone numbers that will be available for any of you to take and contact people to remind them about the show. These names were taken from participation for the grand prize. All other questions may be directed to Roz Mestre, Show Chairman, at
