Cut out the center circle. Sew and flip your way around the block, until you have sewn all the rays. Fold the foundation, right sides together, so you can sew the seam that you split, from the wrong side. Then appliqué a circle in the center, covering the raw edges of the rays. Split the foundation pattern where the arrow points.

Then draw the same size circle on the wrong side of a 4 ½ focus fabric square. Reverse appliqué the circle with the arcs to the square with the hole in it.

First, using your focus fabric, draw a circle on a 4 ½ square. ppliqué 8 (background fabric) arcs around the circle. Then draw the same size circle on the wrong side of a 4 ½ focus fabric square. Reverse appliqué the circle with the arcs to the square with the hole in it. Then, appliqué a quarter circle (background fabric) to each corner of the block. Note** Reverse ppliqué always scares people to death! I always say that in my humble opinion, there is no such thing as reverse appliqué, you are just sewing inside curves.
