3 Prior to cutting the fabric, decide which method of appliqué you will choose for the blocks: Raw Edge appliqué or Needle Turn. If choosing Raw Edge, cut the outer curves of the templates on the dotted lines before cutting the fabric. If choosing Needle Turn, cut the templates on the solid lines. From Fabric A, cut: fourteen 12-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: forty-two 12-1/2 squares nine 4-1/2 x WOF strips. Sew together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 4-1/2 x 86-1/2 side outer borders two 4-1/2 x 82-1/2 top/bottom outer borders From Fabric B, cut: twelve Template 1 pieces two Template 5 pieces From Fabric C, cut: forty-nine Template 3 pieces From Fabric D, cut: twelve Template 1 pieces three Template 5 pieces From Fabric E, cut: four Template 1 pieces two Template 5 pieces From Fabric F, cut: forty-nine Template 2-Reversed pieces (set aside for the pieced arc units) forty Template 2 pieces From Fabric G, cut: forty-nine Template 4-Reversed pieces Prepare Cutting Instructions From Fabric H, cut: forty-nine Template 2 pieces (set aside for the pieced arc units) forty Template 2-Reversed pieces From Fabric I, cut: nine 1-1/2 x WOF strips. Sew together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 1-1/2 x 82-1/2 side inner borders two 1-1/2 x 74-1/2 top/bottom inner borders forty-nine Template 4 pieces From Fabric J, cut: forty-nine Template 3-Reversed pieces page 3

4 From the Binding Fabric, cut: ten 2-1/2 x WOF strips for binding This quilt is composed of four block types: Overview A Blocks - make nine B Blocks - make nine C Blocks - make ten D Blocks - make ten and four plain blocks cut from the background fabric (Fabric A). Refer to the Quilt Assembly Diagram for proper fabric placement within the blocks. Appliqué Instructions For Raw Edge Appliqué Method Center each arc along one edge of a 12-1/2 Fabric A background square, with the raw ends of each arc aligned with the raw edge of the square. Ensure that corners of the arc extend to the corner of the background squares. Pin or baste in place, then, using a small zigzag stitch, edge stitch around the outer and inner curve. Baste the straight edges of the arcs in the corners using a straight stitch and a 1/8 seam allowance. For Needle Turn Appliqué Method Center each arc along one edge of a 12-1/2 Fabric A background square, with the raw ends of each arc aligned with the raw edge of the square. Ensure that corners of the arc extend just beyond the corners of the background squares. (They will align with the corners page 4

5 once the seam allowance is turned under) Hand-baste in place, 1/4 from each curved edge. Then, turn the raw edges of the inner and outer curve under by 1/8 to meet the basting stitch. Sew the curved edges down with your preferred appliqué stitch Baste the straight edges of the arcs in the corners using a straight stitch and a 1/8 seam allowance. Remove the hand-basting stitches. Assemble the A Blocks Gather nine 12-1/2 Fabric A background squares and all Template 5 pieces. Appliqué one Template 5 piece to each of the nine blocks. Assemble the B Blocks Gather: one 12-1/2 Fabric A background square one Fabric H, Template 2 piece one Fabric C, Template 3 piece one Fabric I, Template 4 piece one Fabric G, Template 4-Reversed piece one Fabric J, Template 3-Reversed piece one Fabric F, Template 2-Reversed piece Sew the Templates pieces together, left to right, in the order listed. Use a 1/4 seam allowance and press the seams open or to one side. Refer to the illustration as needed. Repeat to make nine units. Stitch one arc to each background square, just as you did in the A Blocks. page 5

6 Assemble the C Blocks Gather: one 12-1/2 Fabric A background square four Fabric F, Template 2 pieces four Fabric E, Template 1 pieces four Fabric H, Template 2-Reversed pieces Sew one of each Templates piece together, left to right, in the order listed. Use a 1/4 seam allowance and press the seams open or to one side. Refer to the illustration as needed. Repeat to make four arcs. Stitch four arcs to each background square, one arc per edge. Repeat the remaining Template 1 pieces (substituting them for Fabric E) to make ten C Blocks. Assemble the D Blocks Gather: one 12-1/2 Fabric A background square four Fabric H, Template 2 pieces four Fabric C, Template 3 pieces four Fabric I, Template 4 pieces four Fabric G, Template 4-Reversed pieces four Fabric J, Template 3-Reversed pieces four Fabric F, Template 2-Reversed pieces Sew one of each Templates piece together, left to right, in the order listed. Use a 1/4 seam allowance and press the seams open or to one side. Refer to the illustration as needed. Repeat to make four arcs. Stitch four arcs to each background square, one arc per edge. Repeat to make ten D Blocks. page 6

7 Assemble the Quilt Quilt Assembly Diagram Step 1: Arrange the blocks in seven rows of six blocks each, placing by following the Quilt Assembly Diagram. Step 2: Sew the blocks together to form rows, pressing the block seams to the left in the odd numbered units and to the right in the even numbered units. Step 3: Sew the rows together to form the quilt center, nesting the seams and pressing the row seams open or all in one direction. Step 4: Sew the side inner border strips to the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the border. Sew the top/bottom inner border strips to the remaining edges of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the border. Step 5: Sew the side inner outer strips to the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the border. Sew the top/bottom outer border strips to the remaining edges of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the border. Your quilt top is complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy! page 7
