Note: This quilt is scrappy, so place fabrics randomly within their size range. You will have some extra pieces leftover for another project. 1. Place the first fabric wrong side on the unprinted side of the foundation, centering it over the A1 position and ensuring that you have adequate seam allowance around the entire piece. Use a small amount of fabric glue to secure the fabric to the foundation (Fig. 1). Fig Place the foundation with the printed side up on your rotary cutting mat. Place the index card along the sewing line between the A1 and A2 sections and fold the foundation back. Place the Add-A-Quarter ruler on the foundation so that the lip of the ruler is pressed up against the crease and the index card. (If using another ruler, simply add 1 4 (.64cm) to the section stitching line.) Trim the excess fabric with your rotary cutter, leaving a 1 4 (.64cm) seam allowance (Fig. 2). 3. Fold the foundation back in place and flip over.

Check to ensure that when you press open A2 it will completely cover the section with adequate seam allowance on all edges (Fig. 3). 4.

Shorten the stitch length to 15 20 stitches per inch and sew on the solid line between sections A1 and A2.

4 3. Fold the foundation back in place and flip over. Place the fabric for A2, right sides together, along the edge you just trimmed on fabric A1. Check to ensure that when you press open A2 it will completely cover the section with adequate seam allowance on all edges (Fig. 3). 4. Hold fabric A2 in place and flip the foundation over so that the printed side is up. Shorten the stitch length to stitches per inch and sew on the solid line between sections A1 and A2. Do not extend your stitching more than 1 2 stitches past the printed line (Fig. 4). Press open fabric A2. 5. Place the foundation with the printed side up. Place the index card on the line between sections A2 and A3. Fold the foundation as before and use the Add-A-Quarter ruler to trim the seam allowance (Fig. 5). Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 4 of 7

6. Place the fabric for section A3, right sides together, along the trimmed edge of fabric A2. Once again, check to make sure that the fabric will cover the entire A3 section when pressed.

Trim the foundation along the outer dashed line to create a 6 1 2 (16.51cm) block (Fig. 8). Fig. 7 Fig. 8 8. Following steps 1-7 above, foundation-piece a total of (100) assorted blocks.

Sew the blocks together in each vertical column, pressing seam allowances in alternate directions for adjacent columns. 10. Sew the columns together, matching adjacent seams.

Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together. 12. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired.

5 6. Place the fabric for section A3, right sides together, along the trimmed edge of fabric A2. Once again, check to make sure that the fabric will cover the entire A3 section when pressed. Flip the foundation over and sew on the line between sections A2 and A3 (Fig. 6). Fig Continue piecing in numerical order until you have completed the entire block (Fig. 7). Trim the foundation along the outer dashed line to create a (16.51cm) block (Fig. 8). Fig. 7 Fig Following steps 1-7 above, foundation-piece a total of (100) assorted blocks. Quilt Top Assembly 9. Following the Quilt Layout diagram, lay out the blocks in (10) columns of (10) blocks each, rotating the blocks so they form stars. Sew the blocks together in each vertical column, pressing seam allowances in alternate directions for adjacent columns. 10. Sew the columns together, matching adjacent seams. Press the seams in one direction. Finishing 11. Sew together the (6.35cm) Fabric E bias binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together. 12. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed. 13. Leaving an 8 (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12 (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1 4 (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 14. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place. 5 of 7
