3 General Information & Rules There is No Entry Fee for any Exhibit NON-PERISHABLE exhibit entries will be accepted on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Non-Perishable and Perishable exhibits will be accepted Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Exhibits should be brought to the Farmer s Market - Wholesale side, 2nd entrance, 1st bay. (1st entrance is Retail/Direct Sales). Release time for exhibits will be Sunday, August 28, 2016 starting at 4:00 p.m. No exhibits may be removed until release time. In case of an extenuating circumstances for early release, exhibitor must check out with Exhibit Coordinators Carol Chevalier or Janie Harrison. Premium winning exhibits removed by the exhibitor prior to the official release time will forfeit premiums. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to pick up or dispose of their exhibits on or after August 25th. Any exhibits left will be held for one week. After that time, all entries will be considered abandoned, and the fair will in no way be responsible for them. All perishable items will be disposed of. A pre-registration form is available on line at under the EXHIBITS. Exhibitors should print and fill out to bring with exhibits. Please print legibly. Pre-registration is not necessary in order to participate in the county fair but is highly recommended. All products must be grown or made by the exhibitor during the current calendar year, unless otherwise specified in a category. The Carroll County Fair assumes no responsibility in case of loss or damage to exhibits. All fruits and vegetables should be in their natural state. No waxing. Refer to Exhibiting Fruits Vegetables at under the EXHIBITS link. Each entry shall be composed of the required number of specimens and be of only one variety or strain except where noted. PLEASE name variety on entry form. No entry will be judged unless it meets the class specifications, quantity and quality. Perishable products may be removed by the Exhibit Coordinators from display after judging if the product reaches a state of decomposition.

4 If only one exhibit is entered in a category, a blue ribbon will be awarded if the judge(s) consider it representative of First Place. If exhibit is considered unworthy of first place, the judge(s) will award appropriate placing, provided exhibit is worthy. Judges reserves the right to withhold all prizes, if no exhibits are considered worthy of class. During the judging process on Sunday and Monday evenings August 17 and 18: Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons in each Department/Category as stated above (ex: Fruits, Vegetable and Other Produce -- A1, A2, A3). Monetary premiums will be awarded by the point system. Each first place will be worth 3 points; second place 2 points; third place 1 point. The total points an individual receives in each Department/Category will indicate whether prize money will be awarded. A Best in Show rosette will be awarded to the top First Place exhibit entered in each Department/Category if there is an exhibit deemed worthy by the judge(s). All Youth and Special Needs exhibitors will receive a Participation ribbon. Adult exhibitors may request a Participation ribbon. A silent auction will NOT be held in 2019.

All photographs must be taken from August 2018 to August Entries are judged on appearance, composition, tone, balance, clarity, contrast, and suitability to category entered. Color photos will be judged on range of tones or contrast. Only one entry per exhibitor per category. Photos must be 8 x 10 s only or 8 ½ x 11 photo paper. No decorative borders, no frames. ** Photos can be securely mounted on 11 x 14 black foam core BEFORE they are entered or you may PURCHASE the black foam at the time of registration for $2.00 each. Youth may enter the Adult categories, but will be judged as Adult. Black and White photographs can be entered into any category.

You will be considered professional if you receive at least one third of your income from writing or teaching creative writing at the college level. Do not submit works that have been previously published. Submit only one manuscript per category (i.e. only one poem, one essay, one short story), but enter as many categories as you wish. Submit two typed originals or typed photocopies, one to be retained by committee, one to be sent to judges. Please retain a copy of your manuscript, as none will be returned. Include with each manuscript a removable title page containing your name, address, phone number, address (if available), age group, and the literary category. Your name should not appear on any other page.
