1 Learn Fired Arts Educational Event Hilliard, OH -September 26-29, 2013 Exciting opportunity! Join us for one, two or three days of outstanding workshops with come of the best teachers! You pick the workshops you want to attend. Join Michael Harbridge, David Hoff, Paula McCoy, Bob Moreni, Crista Toler and Mayco staff artists for several days of workshops. Learn techniques with class, clay, raku, brush work, crystalline firing, wheel work, slab methods, and so much more! Tour the Mayco factory and meet the teachers and other attendees at the reception the first evening. Morning and afternoon workshops will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend. Lunches will be offered each day and must be ordered at the time of registration. Everything is held in one location at the Mayco factory in Hilliard, Ohio. Event Location: Mayco Factory ~ 4077 Weaaver Court South, Hilliard, OH Host Hotel Location: Hampton Inn ~ 3950 Lyman Dr., Hilliard, OH ~ (614) We have a block of rooms just a few blocks from the Mayco factory at a rate of $89 + taxes per night. Be sure to ask for the Fired Arts Room Block to get this pricing. Room block will be released on Sept. 18th, so make your reservations early. What classes are offered? Scroll through the next few pages to see all the workshops broken down by day and time slot. The hardest part will be deciding what workshops to take. Be sure to bring your friends. Products and materials will also be for sale with most teachers. Thursday September 26 th Activities FREE Mayco Factory Tour Thursday Sept. 26 at 3 pm Come see inside the Mayco factory and discover how your favorite colors and products are made and shipped to customers. Meet the people that make it all happen. Best of all, it s completely free! Thursday Evening Dinner and Meet & Greet $15 per person Join us on Thursday evening for a special dinner gathering and artwork raffle. Each teacher will be creating special works of art that will be raffled off. All you can eat dinner with beverages including soda, water, coffee, wine and beer will be served. Don t miss this exciting chance to meet the teachers, Mayco staff and other attendees from around the country.

2 Friday September 27 th Morning Workshops Basic Wheel Throwing with Mayco Staff Artist Fri. Sept 27 at 8:30am $30 Learn how to make a make a wheel thrown bowl in this basic wheel throwing class. Great for beginners. Materials needed: All supplies and first firing are included. Blue Flower Glass Bowl with Paula McCoy Fri. Sept 27 at 8:30am $65 This design is done on 8 round clear 96 COE glass. Color decoration is done with Colors for Earth Glass Colors, BubbleART Glass Color and Black Low-Fire/No-Fire Piping Paste. Added clear course frit diffuses the colors and adds dimension. Students will receive technique packet with colored photos and step-bystep instructions, the use of products and brushes with workshop fee. Bring take home box. Students can bring their favorite brushes if desired. Firing will be done if kilns are available, if not students are responsible for firing at home. Students will receive firing paper for firing. Day at the Beach with David Hoff Fri. Sept 27 at 8:30am $55 Create this warm mid-summers day at an eastern seashore. The project is completed in Concepts with use of the Rounds. All materials including brushes are provided. Project is approximately 8 x 15 in size. Owl Be Seeing You with Crista Toler Fri Sept 27 at 8:30am $55 Create a detailed design on glass with Designer Liner, Stroke & Coat and Jungle Gems. Materials needed: All glass, color, tools and fuse firing are included. Bring box to take items home. Stoneware Mugs with Bob Moreni Fri. Sept 27 at 8:30am $49 Create 2 Stoneware Mugs 5.25 w x 5 h using Mayco Stroke & Coats, Designer Liner and Stoneware Glazes. Mugs will be fired and available for pickup on Saturday. Materials needed: All bisque, brushes and supplies are included.bring box to take items home. Raku/Clay Witch or Wizard with Michael Harbridge Fri. Sept 27 at 8:30am $59 Glaze and raku fire a ceramic vase with draped fabric during this workshop with Michael Harbridge. While the kiln fires, construct your own clay puzzled witch or wizard. Each person will leave with one completed raku vase and a second clay shape of choice, using a variety of molds and methods. Everything included. Slender raku vase measures approximately 8 inches high by 8 inches wide and clay shape can be up to 12 inches. Please bring box and packing materials to transport items home.

3 Friday September 27 th Afternoon Workshops Copper Raku Glass Sunflower with Paula McCoy Fri Sept 27 at 1pm $60 This piece features the use of copper cut into patterns and placed between glass to achieve a raku effect. The use of Flexi-Glass Medium with Colors for Earth glass color to create sheets of copper that can be cut, torn or punched into patterns, BubbleART background, stamping on flexi-glass copper sheet and Relief Motif accents. You will also learn how to take the frit you have at home and turn it into sheet of flexible art and how to layer these for a dimensional design. Students will complete on 4x11 wall hanging (different sayings will be available in class)and receive detailed instructions and photos, the use of color and brushes with workshop fee. Each student will receive a bottle of Flexi-Glass Medium to take home ($14.95 Value). Student should bring take home box. Firing will be done if kilns are available, if not students are responsible for firing at home. Students will receive firing paper for firing. Crystalline Glaze with Michael Harbridge Fri Sept 27 at 1pm $59 Crystalline firing used to be a complicated process but it s been simplified with Mayco crystalline products. Learn how easy it is to make a freeform bowl with these remarkable glazes that when fired look like ice crystals on glass. Learn how easy it really is. Items will be fired and ready for pickup on Saturday afternoon. In addition to the finished piece completed, each person will also make a clay freeform bowl to take home and fire. All materials included. Great for beginner or advanced artists. Please bring boxes and packing materials to take item home. Dogwood Birdhouse with David Hoff Fri Sept 27 at 1pm $60 Enjoy an afternoon of piping, brushwork and learning. This design is piped in two different colors with Concepts used for the brushwork. All materials are provided and students will be given two piping bottles filled with a piping mix, the piping bottles will be yours to take home. Piece is approximately 10 by 10. Terrific Textures in Glass with Crista Toler Fri Sept 27 at 1 pm $55 Learn to create texture in fused glass by using Designer Mats, Press Tools and clay. Materials needed: All glass, clay, supplies, tools and fuse firing are included. Bring Box to take items home.

4 Saturday September 28 th Morning Workshops Dancing Teapot with Bob Moreni Sat Sept 28 at 8:30am $49 Create this Dancing Teapot with Mayco Stroke & Coats and NEW Designer Liner Colors. Materials needed: All bisque, brushes and supplies are included. Bring box to take item home. Sagger & Raku Firing with Michael Harbridge Sat Sept 28 at 8:30am $59 Create three different items in this workshop and gain tons of information about specialty firing methods. You will start with a bisque vase you ll glaze using a variety of stencils and add glass to the chamber before placing in a kiln to raku fire. While those items fire, you ll prepare a second polished vase for a specialized sagger firing where the shapes are wrapped with unusual items and placed inside a sagger chamber that s loaded up with organic and dry materials and other ingredients before being placed inside and kiln and fired. They you will have a chance to construct your own clay vase and form your own chamber for holding glass. You ll get to choose from a variety of molds and shapes. Serene Egret with David Hoff Sat Sept 28 at 8:30am $50 Complete this outstanding silhouette featuring EZ-Strokes on bisque on a 10 Coupe Plate. Background is blended in with a Glaze Fan and Cobalt Jet Black used for the design. All materials are provided. Approximate size is 10 round plate. Limit 12 students. Owl Be Seeing You with Crista Toler Sat. Sept 28 at 8:30am $55 Create a detailed design on glass with Designer Liner, Stroke & Coat and Jungle Gems. Clay Robot with Mayco Artist Sat Sept 28 at 8:30am $45 Learn how to create this cute Robot from clay and a soda can. Materials needed: All supplies and first firing are included. Floral Matt Box with Paula McCoy Sat Sept 28 at 8:30am $50 This piece is done on a Mayco rectangular box. Color decoration is done with Colors for Earth BubbleART Glass Colors, original Glass Colors, Low-Fire/No-Fire Piping Paste and frit. Learn how to attach glass colors and frit to a ceramic surface for a textured design.this technique is a lot of fun and can be used on glass surfaces also. Students will receive technique packet with colored photos and step-by-step instructions, the use of products and brushes with workshop fee.bring take home box.students can bring their favorite brushes if desired. Students are responsible for firing at home.

5 Saturday September 28 th Afternoon Workshops Whale Plate with David Hoff Sat Sept 28 at 1pm $50 This project has a little bit of everything. We use Contact paper, newspaper stencils, sponging, brushwork and more. Soft greys and blues with dramatic black and white killer whales are the focus. This project has so much to offer. Do not miss out on this natural setting. Class fee includes all of your supplies including brushes. Project - 10 Round Plate. Poppy Vase with Bob Moreni Sat. Sept 28 at 1pm $49 Create this 9.5 H x 5.5w Home Décor Vase with Underglazes and Wax Resist, creating a faux polished Underglaze background.materials needed: All bisque, brushes and supplies are included bring box to take item home. Teardrop Daisy Vase with Paula McCoy Sat. Sept 28 at 1pm $55 This design can be done on any piece that is plain and with no detail. The vase provided in this workshop is 13 inches tall. Color decoration is done with Colors for Earth Color Strokes and Color Concentrates. This technique includes shading, drybrushing with underglazes, color layering, brushstrokes, and the use of Relief Motif for design build-up. Students will receive technique packet with colored photos and stepby-step instructions, the use of products and brushes with workshop fee. Bring take home box. Students can bring their favorite brushes if desired. Students are responsible for firing at home. Spin Art/Glass Dragonfly with Michael Harbridge Sat Sept 28 at 1pm $59 Create three projects in this workshop with Michael Harbridge. Make colorful spin art on a plate, glaze and fire glass to a dragonfly plate and design a clay slab with your own design for adding glass later. Dragonfly plate will be fired and ready for pickup the following day. And finally, we ll roll clay slabs and design your own glass cavity design. Dragonfly plate can also be taken and fired to cone 06 if unable to pick up the following day. All supplies included. Each person will leave with a color-spun plate ready for clear glaze and firing, finished dragonfly plate and a clay slab design. Please bring boxes and packing material for transporting ware home. Basic Wheel Throwing with Mayco Staff Artist Sat. Sept 28 at 1pm $30 Learn how to make a make a wheel thrown bowl in this basic wheel throwing class. Great for beginners. ClayTurkey with Michael Harbridge Sun Sept 29 at 8:30am $49 Create a fun clay turkey with traditional feathers or leaf feathers. We ll have puzzler mold shapes to start with and learn about adding parts and textures for your very own gobbler. Great for beginner or advanced artists. Please bring boxes and packing materials to take items home. Snowman Oval Canister with Bob Moreni Sun Sept 29 at 8:30am $49 Create this 7 h x 8 lx5 w Oval Canister using Mayco Stroke & Coat, Foundations.Materials needed: All bisque, brushes and supplies are included. Bring box to take item home. Tuscany Pasta Bowl with David Hoff Sun Sept 29 at 8:30am $55 Completed this design in Concepts using the warm colors of Tuscany.Learn to complete this design with Liner, and Rounds.The background is floated in to enhance the piece.a 12 Shallow Pasta Bowl is used to complete the project. All materials are included. Limit 12 students. Oriental Touch Box with Paula McCoy Sun Sept 29 at 8:30am $45 This piece is done on bisque by Duncan (Round and Heart shapes available). Color decoration is done with Colors for Earth Color Concentrates and Color Strokes. This technique includes flooding color, sumi shading, tinting glazes to match design, layering color and piping techniques. Students will receive technique packet with colored photos and step-by-step instructions, the use of products and brushes with workshop fee. Bring take home box. Students can bring their favorite brushes if desired. Students are responsible for firing at home.

7 Sunday September 29 th Afternoon Workshops Ladybug Luncheon with Paula McCoy Sun Sept 29 at 1pm $45 This design was created on Bisque Imports bisque. Color decoration is done with Colors for Earth Color Concentrates and Color Strokes. This piece will teach you how to achieve depth by layering colors, floating of color, dry brushing with underglazes and brushstrokes. This pattern can be easily adapted to other pieces. Students will receive technique packet with colored photos and step-by-step instructions, the use of products and brushes with workshop fee. Bring take home box. Students can bring their favorite brushes if desired. Students are responsible for firing at home. Open Clay Puzzling with Mike Harbridge Sun Sept 29 at 1pm $59 This is an open clay puzzling workshop with Michael Harbridge. Create any shapes from the molds offered! Most people are able to complete more than one item in this workshop. All materials provided to create one or more clay shapes. Please bring boxes and packing materials to transport items. Rooster with Bob Moreni Sun Sept 29 at 1pm $49 Create this Rooster on an 8 x 10 Bisque Canvas using Mayco Stroke & Coats with Stencils and Cheesecloth. Russian Tole Zhostovo Style with David Hoff Sun Sept 29 at 1pm $50 Cover-Coats, round brushes and bright colors come together!
